With his cameo in Deadpool & Wolverine, many fans were left questioning whether Tatum truly fits the role of the charming, Cajun card-thrower, Gambit. We break down:
1) Why Tatum’s Gambit performance has sparked such strong opinions.
2) The comic book roots of Gambit and how they compare to Tatum’s version.
3) What fans expected from Gambit’s character and why some feel disappointed.
4) Could Channing Tatum ever prove the doubters wrong in a solo movie?

Still think Channing Tatum makes a great Gambit
If he aligns more to the original comic book version then he could pull it off?
@@DrReelTVAlign himself to a more comic version? If that ain't a comic adaptation then I will happily allow you to call me blind.
I guess none of y'all have gone to south Louisiana. Because they sound exactly like that. The accent he was using was dead on.
Agreed. Some of our team live in NOLA and can confirm yup he’s spot on. Problem is not that, problem is will the rest of world be able to understand him for a full 2 hour solo movie
@@DrReelTVin an interview he said that he played it up for the movie so if it was a solo movie and not a deadpool gag he would definitely be able to sound fine. i think this is probably the worst argument people have for channing not being gambit since that’s not even how he normally talks its a fake accent for the movie which can be changed.
hes not authentic he doesn't look or sound authentic and he's not a good fit for the character it's almost like a parody
Everyone thats complaining about him. Yall are a bunch of haters period. Wishing y'all could be him
If he slims down thats all i want . I liked everything else
Agreed
i liked the other guy from wolverine origins as gambit i do like tatum as an actor but i had no idea wtf he was saying half the time.
That's because he wasn't actually saying anything half the time -- that was part of the joke lol
@@aspenfallen fair enough.
He is perfect
Agreed
The Cajun accent was a joke intentionally.
This. And Channing proves in film he can vary the strength of the accent whenever the scene calls for it. "What'd you do to Johnny, eh? Talk, or I'm'a start dealin'." Was plenty clear, because they wanted it to be.
Channing does not have THAT much more wide a frame then gambit has in the comics, even in the pages shown here, when you pay attention particularly to how he looks without his costume - Gambit's signature look is VERY slimming. I think that's made a sort of feed back loop where he deceptively looks slimmer then he is, which makes people want to depict him as even slimmer (baring in mind many of the animations favour a very slim build for most everyone), then they give him his signature costume which make him look slimmer still, and so on. Poor dude is gonna wind up a stick-man if this carries on.
Channing is a bit wider, but to my eye comic Gambit without the costume is still on the classically sturdier side of average.
We at Dr Reel really want Channing to play Gambit… till he’s 90
For me, it's simply an issue of vocal range. If we get a Gambit movie, he needs to be more than *just* funny, because Remy himself is more than just funny
But, he wasn't JUST funny in DP&W either, there were moments of more there - though I can see how people are loosing them amongst the rest, comedy was his biggest note. When he thinks DP might have harmed Johnny, or when he butted heads with Wolvie, those were examples of flickers of his temper - small flickers, but there. As for vocal range, he can do that accent at varying levels of thickness as a native, vocal range wont be a problem.
I wasn't a fan at all. There was something off. Felt like a parody imitator worthy of the Scary Movie series. Biggest issue is that the he simply didn't look like the character. His physique and that ridiculously unnatural hair just didn't fit. He also lacked that natural swagger that you would expect. Simply put this was a miscast, he doesn't look like the character and nor does he have the right skillset as an actor to pull off the role. Sad to say but Fox did us a favour by never greenlighting his movie all those years ago. Who would be a more ideal casting? Austin Butler.
Yeah we’ve got a lot of comments suggesting Austin Butler is a fan favourite to possibly play the role
Ehhh, why is this channel so small? This was a top notch video, thank you! I've always loved Gambit but never read up on his story. Was cool to learn from this video :)

I like Channing, but he's not the right fit, sorry
If he aligns more to the original comic book version then he could pull it off?
@@DrReelTV Maybe...but he would need to lose more weight.
@@vichosford agreed he was to bulky idk if it was the suit or him but gambit is supose to be slender with muscle build.
Another complaint of mine, though minor one, is Channing's hair. It has too much volume and it's thick--it looked stiff in the fight scenes.
Your channel will explode because of this video. 10,000 subs coming your way. Thanks
We are glad you enjoyed the video 🙏🏼😃❤️
Tatum's head just doesn't fit in that costume. I just can't get past it....
glad they did not do the romy shit i hate that even more him and Rogue never felt right to me.
agreed. gambit always felt too good for rouge which made it so annoying and confusing why she was the one always ruining it and gambit always still coming back.
how lol gambit is the one who’s always loyal and talking about love while rouge is off going for other guys all the time then coming back begging for forgiveness. its crazy how you love the terrible person and don’t like the good one just because the terrible person is hot.
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏🏼❤️
