The AKG is built way better if that counts. Sound wise they are both good sounding mics and used by a lot of people...usage depends on your voice and what you want to sound like, but for the price the AKG is a better built mic in my opinion.

I think it's completely subjective. If want to emphasize the lower frequencies of a voice, the 990 would probably be your choice, but if you wanted something that feels more balanced, the P120 seems to be a better option.
I would have to pretty much agree but the 990 is mostly flat. REALLY it depends on the voice. They were both a steal 6 months ago. They are a good 25% up in price now.
So I just checked Amazon and the akg was only 4 dollars more but the mxl was 99.99 so both still under a hundred. Not to bad. I just sold the akg last week.
I don't know of anyone who has ever used a mk4 it's a pretty old mic so I'd be surprised you could sell it for much. If you do sell these 2 mics would be some of the cheapest to buy. The biggest difference would be selfnoise of about 16db vs your mic at 10db.
As far as which mic sounds better... I put on some cheaper earphones.. was going back and forth between each mic... I keep on going back and forth which one sounds better. I guess that's the point. You can't go wrong with either. It would be interesting to hear the different between a more expensive microphone and those ones.
I just received my MXL990 and it sounds like junk compared to my AKG P120, even going through my DBX286. The only redeeming quality is that the shock mount is worth more than the mic, so I'll keep it for that. But I see videos on modding out the MXL with better internals, but that is too technical for me.

I preferred the MXL 990 over the AT2020. I don't think the AT2020 is a good sounding microphone. Too thin, very little bottom end. Not the best for vocals.

I’m a rapper melodic rapping is the mic clear does it give any werid airy sound any boxy sound does it sound good i reallt want to know it’s a good quality for rapping
@@abdullahgashud4230 both of these mics are great budget vocal mics but no one can tell you if the mic is great for your particular setup. There are always variables that come in play. You would have to try it to see.

I am using the audio-technica AT2020 xlr with a ride podcaster pro and it’s internal audio processing. That’s it!

Very subjective but I would agree with you. Many liked the 990 with my voice. I liked the akg 120 better myself.
