On another level, the song writing for this song in particular is insane. The song is in Phrygian Dominant, unusual key sig for a rock/metal song. But more amazing than this is Maynard frequently moves the 3rd from major the minor the entire way through the song. If you don't know music, just trust me, it's brilliant.

If you take the syllables of “46 & 2,” they match perfectly with the outro of the song. It goes:
    FOUR•TY•SIX•AND•TWO
    FOUR•TY•SIX•AND•TWO
    FOUR•TY•SIX•AND•TWO
    FOUR•TY•SIX
I wonder if our subconscious understood that message without us putting the words explicitly to it, hence, why it feels so viscerally powerful.

We're all born as the centre of the Universe and keep bumping into hard facts that show us we are just a part of the picture. Individuation is admitting that and finding your context. Enlightenment is knowing the Universe is one thing and there are no parts, no connections. Coincidences can only be spooky in the distressed and shattered realm of the ego trying to take and hold the centre of everything again.

Jung, Peterson, Berserk and Tool have all changed my life. It's weird how I found them all around the same exact time. It's a strange but obvious synchronicity. I'm still trying to figure it out but it's the exact thing I need in my life. It's been about 3 years since I found all these things around the same time and I'm still trying to figure it all out. But I know that it's put me on a path that I can't ignore even if I try. I can't wait to see how this goes. Even tho I'm in the worst part of my life thus far and I'm very suicidal. I refuse to kms. I have too much anticipation for where I can go. Maybe my dreams work out. Maybe they don't. Idc. I just wanna see where I go with all of this.

But that doesn't mean you own him. He's a flawed individual (like everyone else), and as such, he's entitled to his own personal ethos and belief system. But he has introduced many people to influential minds like Jung, Dostoevsky, Nietzsche, and Solzhenitsyn. So his teaching has value, even if only as a gateway to others. As for the practical "parental advice" everyone supposedly got from their parents, maybe before shooting your mouth off, you should stop to consider that millions of people grew up with shitty parents - or with no parents at all. The world can be a shitty place, and is full of broken people who are in need of some basic, foundational principles. Not everyone is at the same place, and even if JBP doesn't "speak" to you, doesn't mean that he doesn't reach someone else in need of help. He is a clinical psychologist after all. So quit being such a pretentious douche.

This video game me chills. While I am not be mentally ill, I have been dealing with periods of high levels of stress, some anxiety, depression and dread for a good portion of my life. I love you breakdown of the songs meaning, and how Tool's music analyzes how our societal struggles and personal struggles often overlap and how the solution requires looking inward and instinctual.
I feel as though people need to seek more creative outlets that into that 'instinctual' level (like music and art, physical activity and being social) and I'm a big believer in listening to your 'gut.' It's very interesting to have transcendent moments where you can feel it all coming together. Most my recent ones have come while I've either been playing music or during trail running. It's very awe-inspiring and a tough feeling to capture repeatedly, but Tool's music is a very good way to 'know what to look for'

I grew up listening to Tool and reading/watching Joseph Campbell. That eventually got me into Jung, and those things all got me into Dr Peterson a few years ago. It's a journey I'd recommend to anybody.
Not only is Aenema my favorite album by Tool, but 46&2 is my favorite song by them....both for the same reasons, the obvious Jungian content. As such, I feel I should point out that the songs "Jimmy" and "H" off of the same album SEEM TO ME TO BE about similar Jungian issues/tenets. "Jimmy" is a song about dealing with past trauma and how to heal it from the present "H" is a song about recognizing past trauma and working to not let it affect you in a way to where you pass that trauma on. All 3 of those songs (TO ME) seem like a great Jungian Trilogy that is mean to be enjoyed as one. It's hard for me to listen to one without playing the other two as well.

Great video, my dude. Melchizedek’s idea being called merely ‘dubious’ is a bit of a laugh, tho. He’s not trying to speak in metaphor for states of enlightenment, he’s being pretty literal when he expects us to suddenly evolve to 46+2. Not even getting started on his ‘42+[2]’ noble savages... anyway, it’s explicative to the references in the song, so it certainly should be part of the video, it just seems his ideas are given some knock-on prestige just from being mentioned somewhat seriously in the company of this videos elements. And that’s despite your clear labeling as ‘dubious.’

Horus Lux he’s fucking crazy. Anyone who thinks that enlightenment will literally alter our genetic code is insane. Anyone who claims to talk to angels and demons is probably not to be taken too seriously. It’s a cool idea, but only when you infer it metaphorically. If you look at it as a literal transformation (as he expects you to), then you lose all seriousness you may have hoped to achieve. He’s not a geneticist. He’s not a scientist. He can play one all he wants, but any real scientist who studies these things will laugh him off the edge of his flat planet. There is no great genetical deviation between one of our ancestors and us. Hell, there’s not that much of a difference between us and chimpanzees. Enlightenment could correspond to a rapid Evolution of neurology, but it’s not going to take place on a genetic level. So dubious is really being kind of generous.

Carolyn Talbot, I’ll be honest, I had to bail a few minutes in. All the occult imagery was weirding me out. I’m open-minded enough to listen to someone talk philosophically about nihilism, postmodernism, Marxism, etc. I just don’t want to hear it from a creepy shirtless Lucifer. If we’re going to be talking about important topics of an existential nature, I think it’s important to approach those topics with a degree of seriousness. If you’ve got other videos without the theatrics, I’d watch them.
I’ve never been one to praise Peterson universally, and I admit he has his share inconsistencies, as well as his share of fanboys. However, I’ve yet to hear a cogent argument about why self-discipline and taking more personal responsibility is a bad thing. Care to enlighten me?

Yes! Thank you for making this video. It brought tears to my eyes and goosebumps to my forearms. Around the age of 34 I have experienced the confrontation with my shadow self. It was unlike anything I had ever felt before and not surprisingly, it shattered me. Of course a necessary shattering, mind you. One that paved the way for growth. Now to see this video, I absolutely love it. You managed to very clearly explain the link between two things that have been and still are very dear and important to me; Jung's concept of the shadow self and Tool's song '46 and 2'. For years I've simply really liked the song, but ever since I faced my shadow self it evokes such a powerful feeling within me when I listen to it. Seeing things like this video makes me want to go up to strangers on the street and grab them by the arm. Shouting at them to "Know thyself! Read Jung. Read, in general! Expand your consciousness, for goodness' sake!", haha.
Anyways, love the content, great job, just wanted to express my appreciation and explain where that comes from.
