I have been drawing for years and heard of the rule of thirds and using odd numbers of items to "balance". But, I learned something new! I never heard about the Golden ratio! Very interesting! I googled it.....wow.....I draw with colored pencil and I will use this in my art. Thank you!! (I have followed you for years....not because I am a painter, but because you have a calming and peaceful video way of having an enjoyment in listening to them :) I draw pets and animals. Since taking your course, I care so much more about composition 😅 I now find myself stopping to consider placement and how to place and colors next to one another and perspective and everything. It's definitely changed my results so much, even if I was stubborn at first about it. The more you practice with it, I've found the less time you need to take on it too, it becomes a little bit second nature. Wonderful video, thanks Katie!

Love this! As an amateur enthusiast photographer I also have been learning about composition. Another way to draw the viewer in is light. Even a super subtle vignette makes such a difference.

Hi Katie! What's sad is the rose painting you said you hated and wasted a lot of time on, I believe it's quite good! I can only dream of my best work looking like what you consider your worst. You are incredibly gifted beyond the average Joe's in the world! ❤🎨
Fitting... I got myself a book, "Mastering Composition", a couple months ago and made a portrait of our dog using the "rule of thirds". I think, once you start digging deeper, you cant unsee all those compositional lines painters use :D
Hi love your art! I didn’t know when you were doing another Q&A but really wanted to ask how did you balance becoming a mom with being a working artist? Having your own business is already a lot let alone adding mom duties and trying to stay creatively motivated AND post on UA-cam AND social media…any tips would be appreciated and welcomed 🤗
Hi Bianca thanks for your question. Honestly I would probably say no. The course is aimed towards adults ☺️ I don’t think it would resonate with kids. Thanks for asking though!
I personally just paint/draw what I see w/out worrying about the placement of everything. My biggest problem is Proportions i.e. street too short, windows off, head is too big on people...ect. What about drawing just with a paintbrush??

Composition for structure, the windmill principle for values.
