Finally a movie that shows people who are deaf are no different than the hearing world, we just communicate with a different language.
🙂🙂
This was a great movie, Apple TV did a great thing for the Blind community and added audio description which means they describe what’s going on when there’s no talking and believe me, there’s no way as a blind person that I could get through this movie without sound kind of description. And I am somewhat familiar with sign language I’ve interacted with a few deaf people. Great movie.
The 2 mins of silence was very powerful
We need more movies like this...want more people to experience what we go through
All due respect, but not just folks who are Deaf and/or Hard-of Hearing.
I have low vision, slowly going blind.
Would LOVE to have movies featuring that disability.
Agree
@Icy Rock yes, nitwit.
I’m not deaf or blind. I’ve just always asked myself, why don’t I see those people on screen more? CODA gave me a small window into that life. And that’s a start. Thank you to all the cast members of this amazing movie.
@@Nohcal because until “recent decades” hollyweird was controlled by white “men” who thought they knew everything.
Definitely need more movies like CODA that feature deaf people. Also, they should make movies about other disabilities like blind people or amputees or people who can’t walk and more.
And Coda just won best picture at the Oscars!!! Bravo!
Its a wonderful film. That said, PLEASE change the CC caption at 3:27 where you inexplicably use the word DEATH instead of DEAF!!!!!!!!!!
As someone myself who has a disability this was a fantastic movie I also appreciate that they used disabled actors and actresses and it was authentic not a mockery of what it is like to have a disability and what our world is like authentically. I hope they make more movies like this. We’re the disability community can be proud and excited and not cringe when watching
I’m thankful for movies like this because I have severe hearing loss
As a mom of a young adult with autism, I could feel Ruby’s struggle. I see it in my other son who feels responsible for providing coverage. It was nice to see a movie of this portrayed out of love. This is many peoples reality. Seeing the dynamics of families with disabilities in a movie helps to normalize it.
Does he sign? Because if he's not vocal/verbal and doesn't have a mechanical means of communicating (sign, tablet, etc.,) I would think that would be another layer of difficulty....
The most perfect movie I've seen in awhile. This is the kind of film that makes you fall in love with film/writing/storytelling/learning about other cultures
Here here and well said, 100 percent... wonderfull
it was such a brilliant and profound decision to have some of ruby's concert be silent
I can see actor Troy Kotsur play a Jedi master in the next Star Wars movie.
The idea of a dead Jedi Master sounds awesome.
Congratulations to the Amazing CODA team, and thumbs up 👍🏻 to the writer and Director for picking out real deaf actors and giving them a chance to shine and show us a tip of their World! Thank you for covering this interview. 👏🏼👏🏼💜💜💜💜
So proud of you, Troy, and Thank you CBS for being so supportive of accessibility!!!
I cried all the way through the end of that beautiful movie.
He may not be able to speak but he has so much joy and lots to say!
I live in Boston and have many friends who worked on this film.
There is absolutely no greater joy than learning to communicate with someone who didn't know you gave a shit. Massive love and respect to everybody!
This is a Awesome and important movie .. wow It’s such a beautiful story 👍💕✌🏻
Loved - sarcasm- that they blurred out TK’s character’s swearing g sign language in the clip shown ! Must see …
Beautiful 🤩 the most moving interview I have seen EVER! So proud of Troy!
A brilliant amazing film and portrayal of a good good family. Wish my family had loved itself as much as they do in the story
i really love this movie.. it shows how we sacrifice for our family. a father's undying love for her daughter.. coda a one of a kind movie i cried a lot specially when her father father felt the vibration on the neck of her daughter while singing.
Yep defo unique i honestly think spiritual is a good description of coda aswell, whar a joy it was to be knocked 4 six watching it 💕👍
He proved if we,humans use our mind to spread knowledge and peace, then physical challenge is not a roadblock. Infact , this becomes more inspiring though. Troy like your name, you tried and did a legendary work .Thnx for This beautiful, lovely movie to be watched by forthcoming generations . God bless you and your dedicated, creative team.
I'm glad to see in a news item somebody saying how evocative Troy is. As an actor, with or without the qualification of "deaf actor," Troy is gifted. I agree with Marlee who said one reason the movie hits is because they are badass actors.
That they are.
This movie is very similar to the French movie called, “La Famille Belier “ created a few years ago. The main character wins a music scholarship to Paris instead of in the the US. The family owns a farm and there is a deaf brother, as well. I am wondering if the writer had seen the French version. Louane is the singer in the French movie. You can see it in French with English subtitles. There’s a trailer on UA-cam.
Yes, CODA is an English-language remake of La Famille Belier, and the original version is credited in this film. :)
It’s also similar to the german-language film “beyond Silence” back in the 1990’s.
@@robertandhollyscorpiofan2697
And Indian/Bollywood movie "Khamosshi" (it means 'Silence') that came out in that same year, 1996
@@mrj.kottari8453 thankfully, the german-language movie had English subtitles, because i only know a “smattering” of german and have forgotten most of the American Sign Language i ever knew, never mind german!
He was in this wonderful movie too call Wild Prairie Rose
I love this movie and I learned sigh language with this movie
Congratulations to everyone in CODA 🙏🏽❤️🏆🥇🎭
I love the ending of this movie, I felt like crying! that tells us that Ruby is off to college!
love love LOVE this movie
This is just toooooo awesome!!! Made my day 👍🏼👌🏼👏🏼✌🏼🙌🏼
This movie made me choke cry omg
Subtitles. I support it.
Great movie, great interview.
I cried so much during this movie 🤦🏽♀️❤️
Absolutely beautiful film 👏👏🎶
Yay, Troy! 👏🤟🏆
I'll be there shortly and learning sign. There is not enough support for 20% of the population.
I loved CODA.
One of my most thrilling experiences in theatre came when we did A Midsummer Night's Dream with deaf actors. They shadowed us and signed while we spoke. The audiences were great, and the effect of having the audience react in waves, first from t rehearing and then the laughter from the deaf audience members and it was beautiful. Working together with the deaf actors was beautiful. Their enthusiasm and their love of performing were brilliant. The last week of the show we did without them and we all felt let down by not having our 'buddies' with us, the stage felt empty.
Does anyone know if this is out on Netflix or Amazon Prime?
❤👏
If you read the comments, it's full of people saying, "we're disabled, but we're healthy, whole, capable people who want to be counted as 'normal'," and, imo, that's what _CODA_ does. It normalizes disability.
If you look around you, the world is full of people who have daily challenges who fail to recognize other people with challenges because it's not part of their own lived experience. I have a fatigue disorder, and I am fully capable of thinking, "at least I'm not deaf!" even though everyone in this cast is far more capable of far more things than I am (I hope I _don't_ do that, but...)
We need to demystify "difference." You'd think we would have by now.
He needs to be in a Star Wars project
He was. The Mandalorian
Love it 😍 good 👍 you 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
My deaf 🧏♀️
It's "the Bélier family, a French film. Nevertheless, very very touching"
It’s also a remake of the german-language “beyond silence” which was release in 1996.
Her name is Emilia Jones..
Tom and Jerry! Yes!!! Same!
imagine asking someone why it was important to cast actors who can speak english as opposed to getting non english speaking actors to memorise and learn an english script to perform? why wouldn't you use deaf or at least mute actors who use sign language
@Icy Rock not the same as having actors who don't know the language memorize lines. It's hard to act in a language you don't know, and native speakers can immediately tell that its not good. Even non-native speakers can tell sometimes (see: nearly every non-English line in a Marvel movie before Shang-Chi).
The french version is "La famille Bélier"
The german version is “beyond silence.”
Omygodd..Ruby's mom is aging like fine wine...I totally understand why the troy got jockitch..
Why no mention that it's a remake of an original French movie?
3:07 pm 4/07/2022
alright someone put this guy in a StarWars movie
3 deaf actors in coda
Original movie was ua-cam.com/video/TbKyQWaY1So/v-deo.html #Belier family
The german language film “beyond silence” released in 1996, is likely the original.
Actually of course I can put on disguise it's been done before so why not do it I mean I'm not complaining that these actors are playing a role for being deaf
If you were making a movie in french would you want an actor who spoke french fluently, or a german who promised he would memorise the words phonetically? Of course it's possible to act something, but to learn a whole new language well enough to pretend it's your first language takes a long time and is hard to do convincingly. And there are so many little details of e.g. being Deaf that most people wouldn't even know they should try to do. It's possible but a lot harder and you'd need to have some Deaf people on the staff to teach the actor about things they didn't think of. Plus intensive language courses for months to get at least fluent (like the actor who played the daughter actually did), even if it would probably still be obvious to people who knew the language that you learned it as an adult. There is a lot to be gained by having an actor who is already Deaf and can focus their acting on the actual story.
3:27 should be "Deaf experience", not death experience 😐
It's a copy of the French film "La Famiglia Bélier".
Remake of bollywood film ' Khamoshi- The Musical 1996
my wife and I are still upset about not heard from Troy ... she demand an apology from Troy .....
Always enjoy Marlee Matlin performances and looking forward to getting to know Troy Kotsur's work. But sadly this is not an original story The Belier Family a french film told this story before.
Not sadly, it's not billed as a re-make of that film. It was just a taking off point. Now there are two inspiring movies instead of one.
The german-language “beyond Silence” told this story back in 1990’s.
Sadly? I don't see anything sad about that.
Parts of the interview with the writer/director just don't ring true. She makes it appear that, right from the start, she wanted to cast deaf actors to play the deaf parts. But Marlee Matlin herself, on CBS Sunday Morning, says that hearing actors were originally considered to play the dad and the son. Also, watching even just the trailer of the French original (available on UA-cam) will show just how much CODA copied from it. Even the scene in which the dad asked her daughter to sing the song she had just sung at the concert while he held his hand against her neck and chest to feel the vibration of her voice-a wholly original and touching moment-was copied from La famille Bélier. Don't get me wrong; I thought CODA is a great movie. Emilia Jones' vocal and sign language interpretation of Both Sides Now was really moving. But perhaps the writer/director is taking credit for more than she ought to.
There’s also a german-language film, “beyond silence,” that came out in 1996.
i am not going to give up until Troy give a call to my wife Jennifer Martin to say i am sorry for hurting her by give her Fake VP number in 2007 deaf expo phoenix... she demand an apology from Troy... ...
A remake of a foreign film (original French movie). Americans can´t digest films in other languages....?

I prefer french original movie than this remake
Great Movie, Love Troy Kotsur. But the dirty language was to much. Because of that it's not for children. Don't want them to learn the signs for that.
Not sure your background, but when people learn sign, they learn the dirty words. The signs may be similar to other words, and you need to learn the difference. Other wise, you may seriously offend someone.
i am still waiting for Troy's call .... will hear from Troy soon ... he need to straight it out with my wife Jennifer Martin by lying to her and gave Fake VP Number... they knew each other......hope to hear from Troy soon
