  • The US Department of Justice is destroying Apple and the iPhone as we know them. With the DOJ filming a case against Apple for violating antitrust laws, the US Government is joining the EU Commission in attacking the core values that the brand has held over the past thirty years.

DOJ should also add the fact you have to use Apple AirPrint to print anything from iPads and iPhones.
I can use a dedicated app but they don't work in Apple native apps like Safari.

Yeah, it’s true this year with iOS 18 Apple is making it to where you can move your individual apps on your home screen where you wan’t them instead of them automatically being bunched up. 😂 like come on we’ve been doing that on android. Back in 2009.

I think the main reason I personally back the lawsuit, is that Apple does purposefully stifles its own innovation, by refusing to adopt industry standard features until they're ready for it. By stair-stepping these feature launches it creates a new reason to buy the next iPhone. It emulates innovation but isn't truly giving consumers the latest and greatest experience. I also think their garden wall approach to iPhone exclusive features is just another way to keep their consumers within their ecosystem, even if its hurting the consumer with high repair costs, difficult file transferring to an android or other phone, and the famous blue bubble messaging.
I even argue that the lawsuit would be beneficial to apple users like myself, as I would no longer feel the need to buy the next iPhone if it truly isn't comparable to the features offered on other phones, and It would motivate Apple to compete int he market instead of just competing with their previous phone releases. So even die hard Apple fans who would never switch off iPhone could get current industry standard features, without feeling like their next iPhone purchase will become obsolete by next years release because of how Apple stair-steps in features that they could have just released on the current model.

What Apple has been doing is what vertically integrated companies like Sony did in the past. Is not following industry convention stifling innovation? A lot of these choices are user hostile, but that is not the same thing as preventing innovation from being able to flourish

I love palm os, I was they made it open source so we could use it.
Edit: Personally I think this is a good thing, as it brings things to attention. Now we just need to address the exynos in the room 😂

They actually did make webOS open source after HP killed it, but obviously few people wanted to use it

That Apple isn't a monopoly is absolutely true but that doesn't mean that many of apples decisions aren't anti consumers. Apple lures people in with some brilliant innovations and features but then it traps them in their overpriced and closed ecosystem. In my opinion they should make there ecosystem more open so that there is more competition and so that apple has to compete in every part of the market and don't get everything when they get you in one smal part. If apple doesn't choose this way themselves (like they should if they were pro consumers) and go the more profitable way (by giving a f about consumers) its good that the government steps in and enforces these practices. Btw pointing on bbm and saying, that they did it to is whataboutism and I think that only because the government made a mistake and ignored the problem then, they don't need to make that mistake again (even if I got to say, that I think the whole green bubble, blue bubble thing is completely childish. Who the f cares, what color my bubbles are?! At least I got a phone from a company that implemented usb c before there were forced to)

I keep getting into it with people over iMessage, they act completely oblivious and stupid to the dominance of BBM and how that was exclusive to BlackBerry for a very long time, the fact android/google has had over 15 years to come up with a similar messaging system for android to android users and just haven't speaks volumes to their innovation and now a bunch of 80 year olds are having a hissy fit in the US government because they got dragged by friends/family for being a green bubble. The US saw the success the EU had with forcing Apple to do things and now they don't want to be left out but are effectively going to ruin Apple because they have absolutely no understanding of technology. The 'monopoly' is that americans view android as cheap garbage and will mock people who use them but that's an american mindset, what the DOJ should have done was force apple to perpetually fix any device they mass released with defects, all 2011 macbooks should be fixed for free by apple until 2030 and the butterfly keyboard macbooks should all be fixed for free until the mid 2030s not having a hissy fit over iMessage.
