I agree, I like experimenting with mods as well and there aren't many game review channels that cover both the vanilla game and popular mods. Props on the extra effort dude.
Especially with some older or potentially broken titles.. like for instance I don't know Half-Life 2 for one.. there's so many options to how to play Half-Life 2, some basic some complicated.. none of which that I use involve enhancing the graphics really, that wasn't the problem with Half-Life 2 the graphics still hold up.. gameplay on the other hand shooting wise LOL.. that wasn't even on par with the first one, so don't don't do it,.. get yourself some good mods, there's a couple of all-in-one packages that I don't necessarily agree with all the decisions in but most of them have options at least.. I think I might release the one that I use, but I'm going to have to track down like 30 people to get their permission LOL cuz it's it's just iterative of iterative.. but coming back to that game 17 years later, determined to rebuild my mod package that valve killed with the 2006 update. I didn't realize it was going to take me 3 months and I didn't realize I wasn't going to be able to play a modern game anymore, cuz this just does so much more than a modern game now, in the framework of a hyper linear set piece shooter, that's just sad but that's a whole nother thing about modern game controls shooting mechanics lack of options etc. This something that this game had the complete opposite design philosophy regarding, and at the time I thought this was going to be the future of games. And it didn't really help that games like far cry and fear and MDK 3 (otherwise known as 2007's Crysis)(1) (As a note, this was supposed to be my second example but became a rant as is tradition.. but I feel like I didn't want to change how it was formatted in the structure of whatever this is, so let's just say the rant starts here! where my attempt to provide context on something where people wouldn't understand, although most would.. turns into rage and confusion!) I remember somebody at one point saying that they didn't mind playing vanilla Skyrim when they were talking about Skyrim mods, but this is better.. and I just remember, like I knew Skyrim was going to be a Bethesda game and I had a very very negative impression of Bethesda after Oblivion... And it was everything I expected, even managing to deliver bad dialogue from an even more impressive legendary actor this time around.. (Max von Sydo). but fortunately I knew the score and I had the time and I had broken my back so I didn't really go anywhere for about a year and thankfully bethesda's greed hadn't caught up with their technical incompetence and thus contained a fully functional mod suite within the confines of the engine which you know just kind of really goes to show how little they actually care or possibly not care, possibly just don't comprehend how low the bar is given their fans constantly praise their efforts like it's a masterful work of theatrical art and technology.. like Skyrim was bad, and worse somehow in every way that it was bad.. although, oblivion like everything in relation to Skyrim did manage to do what it did better.. getting Patrick Stewart to deliver bad dialogue is impressive ended up itself as he is one of the few I would consider to be immune to that.. turns out not if Bethesda is involved! But the idea of having to play that kind of gameplay, which is even more inexcusable now that chivalry exists in a modern state.. and was an inexcusable back then as dark Messiah existed.. like the dialogue is the primary issue and the story design and the quest design are the primary issues with that game for sure and and you can only fix those so much, before it's just a different game at that point.. but my God having to play through that level of of unpolished that would have been embarrassing in 2006, and and genuinely Oblivion has better animation LOL just alone and and more complicated gameplay with more agency given to the player, like how do you go so far backwards.. but then how do you get Patrick Stewart to deliver bad dialogue? Bethesda! (Note1) Look, if you make a game that involves a man skydiving in a gimp suit.. and it involves creative use of chickens, while fighting alien invasions, and innovates in gameplay on every level with a level of polish that had not been seen prior.. like let's just call it what it is it's MDK3, and sadly would be the last focused PC effort in mainstream and in combining the original system shock philosophy of game design into a game.(R1) (Rant1) That realization has been sinking in a lot lately as I see a lot of older title inspirations that just miss the entire point of what a lot of older developers were trying to do, shoehorning them into the game design philosophy of one thing and here's how to do it and everything going forward is going to reinforce that...which some of these kiddos weren't even born around when even this came out, and they grew up on industry dominated by a controller that was so bad despite initially being innovative as they are, that it's stagnation for 20 years can be linked to the fact that the games had to play the game for you in order for it to work.. so I get why they wouldn't get it, it's just sad it's all, and in the moment you try to provide them with something like that or they go back and play these particular titles it gets confusing and they get they get confused and we call it bad game design and some of it is, but a lot of it isn't. Like the constant trope of people that think crisis was a tech demo and had bad gameplay it's basically people that have no actual concept of what you could do in crisis and, I used to blame them for that but now honestly with the way games are designed and how that had been being hammered in really strongly at the time with the takeover for primary development on consoles.. I guess it just wasn't really a game for them, like the the mental faculties.. which are always really really fascinating and wonderful when you see somebody finally discover the immersive Sim as a concept, not in the hyper telegraphed Dishonored format.. which for all it does also ends up defeating its own philosophy, but in all fairness also succeeds in that these people got to play an immersive salmon they liked it so I don't know.. I want a new timeline that's what I want.
SOFII is still one of my favorite FPS games of all time, I still remember when I first played it as a kid I couldn't even get past the first level but as I grew older and figured out how to play the game I ended up beating it countless times over the years. The M4/M203 and SOCOM are my favorite weapons in the game, aside from the sniper rifle every once in awhile you don't really need anything else to get through the game.
Only thing I'd want is a mod that makes the corpses stay indefinitely. Them vanishing took me out of the experience alot. Loved having those gory corpses around in Sof 1.
funny that you accuse the OICW of being cumbersome and unwieldy with features that sound better than they actually work, as that is exactly what soldiers said about the weapon when asked to test it out in real life.
Actually they made the weapons to have controls pretty much accurate to the real thing if you ask me. You have plenty of knobs to turn in the scope to have various modes and zoom options. The gun has a "laze" button and a + and - keys and the grenade launcher couldn't be used on the fly like the others because of the smart grenades. Nowadays such weapon will certainly have a touch screen or voice commands. But actually I preferred the fact they went through a simpler grenade launcher that can be used on the fly. mostly that south koreans have made a very similar gun but with bolt action grenade launcher. The weapon is still bulky but it showed some potential though.
@@migueeeelet Oh yes and it quite showed in game, like its main use was a sort of sniper rifle with auto cap and a GL that was only useful against unalerted or hidden enemies. Which was a bit against a main battle weapon
i love playing old games like this ive recently been playing through scarface the world is yours but back to the point i really enjoy watching your reviews of old games such as this one so i know what to play next this will probably be that next game
I can open a secret - you can use dual pistols with ANY type of pistols. So equip the right handed one, then press buttons [] Good old game, still one of my favs for years.
I mean really how the HELL has nobody offered a good RMG system, this was the quake 3 engine for god's sake. This was an absolute killer MP game in its heyday and had a large community for several years. Awesome review by the way
Just played through the two back-to-back a few days ago. They're okay. For people who like Voyager and TNG, I imagine it's almost required playing. They certainly make you feel like you're part of some action-centric episodes of the show. Aside from a mission in the first game that takes place on a pirate-filled TOS-era ship, the games didn't please me on that front, though. Because I only like the TOS, and everything else can be erased from history, for all I care. That aside, they're *highly* linear, oftentimes taking place in corridors, and they're never difficult. The weapons aren't very interesting, and aren't particularly satisfying to shoot. So what you end up getting is a pretty sterile FPS experience. They're primarily good as Star Trek FPS games, but they're not remotely notable outside of the Star Trek aspects, IMO... except for the multiplayer. The first game in particular just has a reskinned Quake 3 for its multiplayer. So yes, it's really fun in that mode. The Star Trek theme actually adds something to it, thanks to it allowing for lots of pretty laser effects, and some nice themes for its maps.
Innocent Clarke Well of course you can have that opinion about that. Its just that most people I know have very fond memories of elite force. As do I and I could just be nostalgic because it was the first pc game I bought with my own money
I'm not saying it isn't enjoyable, especially to people who like Star Trek. And, of course, when it came out, there weren't so many other FPS options available, and even if you knew of many other options, the ability to get a hold of those other options wasn't as easy as it is now. All I'm saying is that people looking at it wondering if they're worth playing today simply as shooters... well, there's not much reason to play it. There are so many better choices available, even just by Raven themselves.
Alright, so I figured out how to properly install all the mods after successfully digging them up and getting them all together. Here's a guide for anyone who was also confused as to how to properly install and run the game assuming you can also get all the mods together as well. 1. Install the "PerfectFX" mod first. Extract the contents of the download to the main SoFII game folder and override the already existing files (replace the original folders with the new ones from the mod install ; ie: the "base" folder). That should be it for the PerfectFX mod 2. Now comes the Weapons Mod. This one is slightly more confusing and drawn out but once you get it working it's a ton of fun. First, obviously you need to extract the mod, but this time create a new external folder and install it there (Ex: Mine is named "SoF II Mods") 3. Run the included .exe file and go through the install as you would normally 4. Set the directory to the main game folder (Do NOT install it to the /base folder in the main game directory) 5. While going through the install process, you should have run across an option to create a desktop shortcut for the Weapons Mod executable you ran earlier. Make sure to check this option as well. 6. Once the install is complete, navigate to your newly created desktop shortcut. It should be named "Soldier Of Fortune 2 Weapon Mod". Run the desktop shortcut, and you should be prompted with the ability to select the files needed to run the game with the mod. Navigate this menu until you locate the SOF2.exe game executable and select it. 7. Run the SOF II Weapon Mod shortcut again. Installation (should be) successful. 8. The last two mods are easy. Starting with the "Bloody Chunks" mod, simply extract the .pk3 file to the new /base folder in your SOF2 game directory. 9. Repeat step 8 with the "Real Gore" mod. Extract / copy the .pk3 file to the /base folder. That about covers things. Obviously the gore mods you'll notice are working as intended with new blood effects and gibs, etc. The Weapons Mod changes the loadout, and you can tell right away even when starting a new game in the prologue mission in Prague. Normally, when playing the original game without the weapons mod, your starting loadout in the prologue mission is limited to a 1911 Pistol, M3A1 "Grease Gun", and Mossberg 590 Cruiser (both the grease gun and mossberg of which can be picked up from downed enemy soldiers) along with your standard knife melee option. When running the Weapons Mod after successfully installed, along with these weapons you'll notice you can now pick up an AK-74 minus the bayonet attachment (which is more accurate, given the mission's location is set in Czechoslovakia in the USSR). Along with this, your 1911 is now also modified from the start with an attached suppressor that proves to be quite useful when getting the drop on enemies. Pick up a second 1911, and of course now you can dual-wield 1911s, as well as select between suppressed and non-suppressed versions. (To my knowledge you can't remove the suppressor from the beginning, though I haven't tried to and it wouldn't exactly prove beneficial for me to attempt it anyway). I hope this guide helps anyone who's struggling to figure out how to install these mods. Hope that you can actually install them and have a blast!
Alright, this goes out to anybody currently searching for the mods; RealGore is available on LoneBullet, as is PerfectFx (though, for whatever reason, it refuses to install). I was digging around for Bloody Chunks to no avail.
Nice review! i remember vuying this when is first came out. i wish raven was still around and a wish for a new soldier of fortune. this was a complete game as far as including a single player and multipler mode which is missed these days. the RMG was ahead of its time. long live SOF2.
I wish there were more games like this now a days, that is just good old B movie action games that take you through a lot of varied environments like SF or CS CZ deleted scenes do, even CoD is ditching it's campaign
Try gory game called ColdWinter for PS2 , that game is made for people who are fans of Sof 1 , 2 and Deleted scenes. Trust me, you gonna love it. I am a fan of Sof 1 and 2, CS Deleted scenes and Coldwinter. Here check it out: ua-cam.com/video/9t0KbMuAuoE/v-deo.html
i remember as a teenager really enjoying playing this :D so i was quite surprised when i found so many reviewers bashing it... as you say in your review it is ridiculously fun to shot people in this game, and that makes the whole thing rather special.
There's a fix for the weird projected shadows. Open the game's console (Shift and ~), and type, "cg_shadows 2", without the "". This makes the projected shadows not just black and grey and transparent and dynamic. These are a little bit buggy though. Sometimes, you'll see a grey-ish shape just floating, or grey-is shaped flying off characters. I'm making it sound very noticable and that it's s big issue, but it's really not.
Fantastic review! I'm looking forward to trying the game myself. I would have given this a thumbs up anyway, but when you said more devs should include an optional procedurally generated mode like the RMG, I knew I had to. I've been in love with that concept for optional modes for a long time.
I liked this game but I prefer the first one. I loved how the first one actually had some prototype guns straight out from a james bond movie like the microwave gun for instance. Sof2 only had the OICW and other than that there wasn"t really a stand out weapon in therms of futuristic / funky gun. Also the first one allowed us to have a rocket launcher to shoot people and we could do that many times, while in this game, the weapon never had ammo for it or you could probably only get it once. Fortunately there was the MM1 if you wanted to blow up people, but I wasn't fan of the fact explosives were much more limited in the second game. In fact enemies were the only ones filled with them. Hell even the grenades were clunky to use while in the first one you could throw them ofhand just like in Shadow warrior. The good additions to the arsenal to me were dedicated grenade launchers, the dual wield as we could have strange combos like UZI + pistol, the USAS 12 which is a shotgun god in this game. The gore system that surpasses the first one. The AI was quite good for its time. Remember that enemies in the first SOF never ran out from grenades. However what I disliked in the second SOF was the level design and scripted sequences. I hated when you had to follow a sergeant which could shoot you while you just wanted to take an advantage point from a sniper tower (and also grab ammo from fallen enemies). The stealth sequences were awful in SOF 2, the only way to win them is to use a gun butt and then slice enemies to avoid them to wake up. I just wish they removed them completely. Not that in the first SOF there wasn't any stealth mechanic, there is. But at least the game only made some respawning when you were too noisy. Also I hated the bullet sponge humans. Not that the first one didn't have any, but at least they had pieces of armor to justify that and they weren't just spray and pay enemies. And the bosses were terrible in SOF2. Sure people can blame the ones in the first game too, but at least they weren't things about shooting a glowing spot. Only the last boss was lame because it was just decker... As for the story it was much better in the first one. The gameplay was also more fluent in the first one. For me the less realistic tone of the first one and the fact it was more like an 80's action movie made me prefer the first one. Also the level design is much better in the first one. The only thing I loved in the second one was the fact there was gun turrets that were used by enemies that can be used by us. The fact there is many grenade models. The fact that enemies can descend from ropes and throw more often grenades at you. Too bad you couldn't throw enemy grenades back in this game, because enemies could ... I loved the larger maps as they were great for sniping at times. I loved how the glass reacted from gun shots, The mickael jackson death animation. Well none of the games were perfect in my books, but they are entertaining though.
Im not sure if its just because the POV has been adjusted, but all i could focus on in this video is the fact that the guns point far left of where the aiming dot is. That would drive me nuts
I love these videos on mods over vanilla games actually XD. I'd love to see a few videos from you guys on the splinter cell game (beaware that any entry in the series beyond splinter cell: double agent is focussed less on sneaking around enemies, but actually more about brute forcing your way through enemies or taking them out stealthily).
Don't forget, the peek from cover mechanic is completely broken. You can run up 5 feet away from an enemy and lean left or right, and you'll be hit less. Try it.
Kenneth Shiro yeah dude that's a big problem in the first one too I shit you not the bots know how broken that game mechanic is which consequently makes multiplayer less fun and the hit box's where suprisangly shitty
I've actually seen them run to and set off alarms but that doesn't really matter when they all already magically know where you are once one of them has seen you.
Check out the Four Man Squad mod, it should be on Nexus. It adds two new locations (same layout, same objectives), one of them abundant with foliage and well equipped hostiles with AP ammo. It also adds 3 NPCs following you around on Assassination, Demolition and Infiltration missions and unlocks daytime infiltration. It has minor, insignificant conflicts with Weapon Mod, yet remains perfectly playable.
@@Gamingpastime64 True. But still, working on something as huge as Call of Duty is a big honour in itself. CoD may be quite infamous in today's age, but they had quite the praise from fans when they remade CoD4. They listened to fan feedback prior to the remake's launch. I say remake rather than remaster because it is actually a remake rather than a remaster. It isn't an enhanced port of the original, because a port wouldn't be able to include new features like new weapons and game modes.
The original had a better campaign imo. Those missions in Colombia and Kamchatka really dragged the single player experience down a few notches in this game. Not to mention the broken stealth mechanics and I miss how enemies reacted to getting shot like they did in the original ex: hopping on one foot from a leg shot
sadly i dont have my mod ordner on a old storage device that is gone. And i dont find all the stuff i once have. Better gore that looks very good and many other. It was a bigger pmod nero something the blood lookt very good and the dismemberment and so was very good to i wish i can get all these mod back and play it again these days
I was excited to try these mods but I don't really understand how to install each mod. The instructions I have seen don't make much sense to me. Can anyone give me a dummy tutorial? Cheers to whoever sees this.
The scene at 17:06 is the major issue I had with this game. The hit detection and feedback is totally random. You shot that dude _at least_ five times with a shotgun, and he didn't even react. No mod has fixed this issue that I've had with SF2 since release.
Regarding the bugs you mentioned they must be the result of running it on more recent versions of Windows/DirectX and maybe the mods as well. I played this game on Win XP when it first came out and none of these issues where there at that time.
Man maybe I'm just fucked up, but I spent lots of time just shooting to people to pieces in this game. Lol had a friend who after he'd kill someone he'd grab the knife and knock their had and legs off. I never took it that far, but would redo certain areas just so if I could kill certain enemies in new ways. I swear you could shoot them in the stomach with one of the larger guns and they'd hold their stomach or intestines in their hands and gargle blood. The coolest though I can recall was on the airport(subway?) level with the armored dudes I had a silenced pistol. There was an armor guy standing on the other side of a window. I shot for his head, but missed by an inch or two. Though for some reason he was recoiling in pain even know I never hit him. Well I look and the plate glass window had embedded its shards into his face/ski mask. I went through the whole game after that shooting through windows at people, but missing on purpose.
SOF2 is the most terrifying game from my childhood. One time I was doing RNG mission with the sniper rifle, I shot some soldier far away in the leg, and he started limping towards me slowly. Then I shot off his arm, but he was still alive and persistent. Then I shot half of his fucking head off, but he was still moving. Until that moment I didn't know it's the game about zombie apocalypse, so I shat my pants a little. Don't play SOF2 in the dark if you're 12 y.o. kid.
What did you think of Soldier of Fortune Payback?? Honestly, Guilty pleasure of mine. ( edit, you mention it at the end. Lol , eh I'll leave the comment up )
Nice video, thanks for upping. The multiplayer was awesome and definitely underrated, I think I played more SOF2 multiplayer than all the others games added together during the lifespan of original black Xbox. Good old times when you still had to know how to aim in also console games while you play with controller, it can be achieved you just need more practice. Nowadays it's almost always autoaim/Glueaim BS which is not so rewarding. (COD is the worst, especially the QuickScoping which is one of the most stupid things in history of video games) Really looking forward for Turok 2 remastered release on Xbox One later this week. It might be it's not ruined by autoaim? While it's old school. Hope so, btw. you had a great video of that game too GJ!
Have you beaten the whole game with the mods you've showcased in the video? I saw your video and thought I should give the game another try with the mods, but I can't beat it since the Helicopter Extraction mission is bugged. The helicopter flies straight into the SAM missle after destroying the bridge without the pilots saying anything. I saw in a walkthrough that the missles are slower and the pilot notices them and says something to Mullins. I've tried restarting the level and playing through it multiple times but I always encountered the same bug.
I have it on Xbox as well. I played it for about 20 min before turning it off. I remember being very disappointed with its performance and presentation.
Nexusmod.com offers* only paid access to download, get cookies (probably unauthorized "registers" * of everyone pc), and they says that prevent abuse of their system ??
my game makes wierd things when i install the weapons mod and the FX mod.Up to the state that all executables was deleted oO??? never ever had that....
Bloody Chunks V2 is set to hidden, please change link Real Gore has been set to hidden, please change link Perfect FX (Final) has been set to hidden, please change link
Wow they not only included the oicw but they also included all of the reasons why the oicw never really made it into a production line.. I actually didn't know that, but I haven't played this in years lol, I'm actually like okay so technically speaking it makes the game harder and not as good to play in that regard, but also just the fact that they made the gun as awkward as it actually should be to do what it's supposed to do LOL.. I'm going to call that one to win for some reason it's a weird one but it's a win.. like there's just there's just a reason that gun never really made it out of a Lab.(1) This game had a gameplay loop that I thought was at one point going to be the future of all shooters.. and it did it really well and before most of them had even attempted to bring all of these elements together.. outside of the original system shock, or the game that genuinely did do everything all at once (2) and... well apparently we've decided upon a different path for games. But, with games like this showing how good the simulation elements from milsim stuff like rainbow six and ghost recon could integrate into the action shooter.. and then later we would see FarCry and then FEAR STALKER and then the ultimate iteration of this philosophy being Crysis (3). I'm not going to lie, when the quote unquote spiritual successor to system shock didn't have a fraction of the interaction mechanics as Ken Levine's previous game, SWAT 4, and even less of the overall mechanics of any system shock game, I realized that this is a bad sign for the future of gameplay in shooters.. I had been avoiding thinking about it prior but man Bioshock really hammered that one home, kind of like Deus Ex fans have had that hammered home with invisible war. Forr some reason I thought that was going to be a one off just like there's no way that the seventh generation of consoles is going to ship with the exact same controller, they're going to fix it, it doesn't have enough buttons! You can't you can't hit all the buttons while you're moving and looking.. of course they're going to fix it like that was a that was a you know a best fit solution at the time.. then the 360 shipped.. then the rainbow six games for the seventh generation shiped, and for some reason with the way that they ported graw, I figured that was going to be the standard going forward cuz how could you possibly make the same game for that controller on a PC? like it's going to be a joke! I guess the joke was on me because apparently, people loved Bioshock and the console rainbow six games.. and don't even comprehend that there's a settings menu anymore much less a key binding selection.. on the PC. But in happier news Raven software apparently has been released from Bobby's puzzle basement from the sound of things, like they're still not free... but like they were trapped in that basement for a decade and hopefully their new Masters will appreciate their talents more, and hopefully not instigate decades of long strung out punishments for attempting to create a game, in the spirit that you had originally contracted and were incorporated into Activision.. that was kneecaped at every turn, from the ground up on the corporate end designed in order to fail and stamp out that little wascally spirit left in that company at that point.. I just I just didn't think they get locked in his basement for 10 years.. that's that's not cool. (Note1) and the reason it never made it out of a lab, even the grenade launcher only variant.. just like in the game, had something to do with the fact that you had to adjust laser range and timing for every single shot on projectile in order for the airburst round to actually do any sort of air bursting, of which it needed to be air bursting to be effective in any way given that it's such a small explosive projectile.. the actual projectile itself is fascinating though, I mean I'm sure they've got way more fancy stuff today, and probably less convoluted but the amount of things that the projectile had to do back in 90s technology in order for it to not be a wire guided.. but still programmable. (Note2} it was, it was a little confused... And yet it's amazing how little had to be adjusted, for that level of freedom and choice to be flushed out, like it was all there it just needed to not rely on the Ultima underworld interface philosophy for an action shooter is all. (Note3) The spiritual successor to MDK, and if you were asking, yes you can surf in crisis.. you got to find a part of somebody's house and you can make it work, cuz you can do pretty much anything in that game.. and it was the last game where the design philosophy considered this is an actual feature.. nowadays it's confusing to all the little kiddos out there who are just desperate for a game to tell them what to do and then they do it, and they complain about innovation and game design not existing.
I love how your videos look at the vanilla game as well as the mods that enhance it, it makes your videos the most thorough out there!

(Note1) Look, if you make a game that involves a man skydiving in a gimp suit.. and it involves creative use of chickens, while fighting alien invasions, and innovates in gameplay on every level with a level of polish that had not been seen prior.. like let's just call it what it is it's MDK3, and sadly would be the last focused PC effort in mainstream and in combining the original system shock philosophy of game design into a game.(R1)
(Rant1) That realization has been sinking in a lot lately as I see a lot of older title inspirations that just miss the entire point of what a lot of older developers were trying to do, shoehorning them into the game design philosophy of one thing and here's how to do it and everything going forward is going to reinforce that...which some of these kiddos weren't even born around when even this came out, and they grew up on industry dominated by a controller that was so bad despite initially being innovative as they are, that it's stagnation for 20 years can be linked to the fact that the games had to play the game for you in order for it to work.. so I get why they wouldn't get it, it's just sad it's all, and in the moment you try to provide them with something like that or they go back and play these particular titles it gets confusing and they get they get confused and we call it bad game design and some of it is, but a lot of it isn't.

This is an Excellent channel. I appreciate linking mods.
Only thing I'd want is a mod that makes the corpses stay indefinitely. Them vanishing took me out of the experience alot. Loved having those gory corpses around in Sof 1.
This game still holds up to this date really.
funny that you accuse the OICW of being cumbersome and unwieldy with features that sound better than they actually work, as that is exactly what soldiers said about the weapon when asked to test it out in real life.
@@Moonstalker It's hte kind of system that would work as a support or backup weapon, but not something you'd want to use in the heat of battle.
@@migueeeelet Oh yes and it quite showed in game, like its main use was a sort of sniper rifle with auto cap and a GL that was only useful against unalerted or hidden enemies.
Which was a bit against a main battle weapon
OICW being a cumbersome POS is realistic as it can be
Also, watch them doing it again with the XM7 and the NGSW computerized optic

Good old game, still one of my favs for years.
I mean really how the HELL has nobody offered a good RMG system, this was the quake 3 engine for god's sake. This was an absolute killer MP game in its heyday and had a large community for several years. Awesome review by the way
there is an RMG Mod : "SoF2 RMG Expansion and SP Tweaks Mod"
Dont forget Raven even made star trek elite force. A star trek fps that was awesome. And raven did that
Never played it. But I hear good things.
Those games are great!
That should be it for the PerfectFX mod
2. Now comes the Weapons Mod. This one is slightly more confusing and drawn out but once you get it working it's a ton of fun. First, obviously you need to extract the mod, but this time create a new external folder and install it there (Ex: Mine is named "SoF II Mods")
3. Run the included .exe file and go through the install as you would normally
4. Set the directory to the main game folder (Do NOT install it to the /base folder in the main game directory)
Do you have links to the mods? the links in this video are dead
Alright, this goes out to anybody currently searching for the mods; RealGore is available on LoneBullet, as is PerfectFx (though, for whatever reason, it refuses to install). I was digging around for Bloody Chunks to no avail.
2 years later but you can find a fixed version of PerfectFX nowadays on Nexusmods. Bloody Chunks is now on LoneBullet, linked at PCGW.
SOF2 MP still has a handful of players, and it's still just as good as I remember. A classic!
i remember as a teenager really enjoying playing this :D so i was quite surprised when i found so many reviewers bashing it... as you say in your review it is ridiculously fun to shot people in this game, and that makes the whole thing rather special.
dude your reviews are really awesome
There's a fix for the weird projected shadows.
Open the game's console (Shift and ~), and type, "cg_shadows 2", without the "". This makes the projected shadows not just black and grey and transparent and dynamic. These are a little bit buggy though. Sometimes, you'll see a grey-ish shape just floating, or grey-is shaped flying off characters. I'm making it sound very noticable and that it's s big issue, but it's really not.
Is there a way to make the setting permanent?
My favorite game of all time
Fantastic review! I'm looking forward to trying the game myself.
I would have given this a thumbs up anyway, but when you said more devs should include an optional procedurally generated mode like the RMG, I knew I had to. I've been in love with that concept for optional modes for a long time.
Same. If done correctly, it usually works out well.
I loved these games
I hate when FPS games are fully committed to using RNG for everything, but I like that this has an RNG mode that accompanies a handcrafted campaign.
Like with an enemy being in one room then in another play of the same leve he isn't there?
This game is probably 15 years or older! This was COD back then it was awesome
I mean it was that cool in general
Im not sure if its just because the POV has been adjusted, but all i could focus on in this video is the fact that the guns point far left of where the aiming dot is. That would drive me nuts
I was wondering when you were going to review SoF2. Put a lot of time into this game. Had a lot of fun!
Thanks a LOT ..! Ps. The latest Version of "Sui's Fix" comes
automatically with a FOV and HUD fix and saves a lot of work.
this was a must-play game, I was hooked
I've actually seen them run to and set off alarms but that doesn't really matter when they all already magically know where you are once one of them has seen you.
I've been playing this with friends during LAN parties since 2002 (for the last 18 years!!!) BARN & SHOP!
This actually looks pretty cool from what I'm reading. Thanks.
Thermal goggles were OP in mutliplayer. They got me accused of aimbotting.
I played the first one on my dream cast for hours and hours.....second one is good if you have a gold version
I loved the first game :D
I actually still play this game together with around 80 players daily online.
The gore to this game is outstating.
Gah seeing this brought me back....killed so many hours on the OG Xbox Live days.
1:07 Why would remaking CoD4 be considered a fall from grace? They're remaking one of the most influential games of all time.
Because Raven Software made some excellent games in the past. Reducing them to working on only CoD titles seems like a huge waste of talent.
It isn't an enhanced port of the original, because a port wouldn't be able to include new features like new weapons and game modes.
would love a coop mod for this game, i would kill for it
The original had a better campaign imo. Those missions in Colombia and Kamchatka really dragged the single player experience down a few notches in this game. Not to mention the broken stealth mechanics and I miss how enemies reacted to getting shot like they did in the original ex: hopping on one foot from a leg shot
I want a game where the enemies have a chance to accidentally misthrow their grenades and the other enemies would be like "OH YOU STUPID__" BOOM!
I think F.E.A.R. had something like that
Stalker clear sky and call of pripyat games, enemies will occasionally do this

It was a bigger pmod nero something the blood lookt very good and the dismemberment and so was very good to i wish i can get all these mod back and play it again these days
I was excited to try these mods but I don't really understand how to install each mod. The instructions I have seen don't make much sense to me. Can anyone give me a dummy tutorial? Cheers to whoever sees this.
Who else played hardcore CTF? I miss this game online so much
i have gold edition for retail and yeah i am glad i bought it when i did i didn't know it was that rare.
Does this work on the GoG version? If so, how do you install all the mods?
Could you please repost the links to the mods. The old links don't work anymore.
The scene at 17:06 is the major issue I had with this game. The hit detection and feedback is totally random. You shot that dude _at least_ five times with a shotgun, and he didn't even react. No mod has fixed this issue that I've had with SF2 since release.
Those enemies wear body armor. Body armor is very resistant to buckshot. It's working as intended.
Regarding the bugs you mentioned they must be the result of running it on more recent versions of Windows/DirectX and maybe the mods as well. I played this game on Win XP when it first came out and none of these issues where there at that time.
After Brutal Doom, nothing comes close in gore!
its like a proper sequel to perfect dark
damn why did they take all the mods down
Nice review man!
This man just earned a sub :D
Very good video, thank you very much friend!
Enemies _will_ throw nades back at the player, and they're on a lengthy 4sec fuse. Thankfully grenades can be cooked!
another great review!
Don't play SOF2 in the dark if you're 12 y.o. kid.

Great video. Would like to ask you what other MODERN FPS games are similar and unique to the SOF2? (Not games like COD, BF, btw) Thanks in advance.
Does the mods all work together or did you merged some of them? Did you loaded them in a special way?
I know i'm a little late, but how can i combine the perfectFX mod with the weapons mod?
I got it fixed but now i am encountering the issue of only one death animation playing.

Perfect FX link is dead. Just a heads up ;)
Nice video, thanks for upping.
Does SOF2 work on xbox 360? If not how can i get the best graphics for it on the original Xbox? ;)

Most of the mods have sadly been removed for whatever reason,i hate when mod authors do this.
i use perfect fx final mod but sadly the enemies are disarmed what can i do to solve that issue?
Have you beaten the whole game with the mods you've showcased in the video?
I saw your video and thought I should give the game another try with the mods, but I can't beat it since the Helicopter Extraction mission is bugged. The helicopter flies straight into the SAM missle after destroying the bridge without the pilots saying anything. I saw in a walkthrough that the missles are slower and the pilot notices them and says something to Mullins. I've tried restarting the level and playing through it multiple times but I always encountered the same bug.
I did beat the game with mods. I can't say I experienced that specific issue, though.
Guess I have to use god mode to skip that part if the SAMs arent scripted to destroy the helicoper if they hit it regardless of the HP.
I've only played this on the Xbox, but I need to get it on the PC and use these mods.
I have it on Xbox as well. I played it for about 20 min before turning it off. I remember being very disappointed with its performance and presentation.

I'm going to call that one to win for some reason it's a weird one but it's a win.. like there's just there's just a reason that gun never really made it out of a Lab.(1)
This game had a gameplay loop that I thought was at one point going to be the future of all shooters.. and it did it really well and before most of them had even attempted to bring all of these elements together.. outside of the original system shock, or the game that genuinely did do everything all at once (2) and... well apparently we've decided upon a different path for games.
