Real benefit if foreign cards can be added along with foreign number. This would help not only NRIs but also foreigners visiting India. Not all NRIs have Indian bank accounts.
Indian Banks dont allow multiple mobile phone number to use UPI even if there is more than one person in a joint account. That needs to be fixed first. In a E/S joint account, having only primary transact UPI is NOT a feature, it is a restriction.
If NRIs need a bank account in India to do UPI it is still useless for many. Because if you go through hassle of maintaining bank account in India then why not keep an Indian number as well. For $70 you get Jio annual plan.
i use remitly to transfer money, but over the years i wanted to have an account in india to buy MF/shares but its complicated process in india ...if it was easy then i could have made millions long ago...........india will take another decade to have proper infra ...........
This is not as good as you may think. It costs$10 per day to use my US phone in India. So I borrow a Jio Hotspot and use my US phone in airplane mode while visiting India. My ICICi bank account which has UPI will not work when I put my phone in airplane mode. What will help is to allow Adhar card to OCI holders so we can get an Indian phone number while in India. Adhar is just identification so why not allow that? For me an important benefit is not to carry cash around while in India
Is it possible to link the phone numbers of any countries or is there any specific list of countries which support this ? Also is this available for OCI cardholders or only for NRIs? How to add a overseas phone number in addition to an indian number as Indian banks doesn't allow multiple phone numbers for upi. Pls clarify as this is not clear.

Is singapore part of it?
Will they be allowed to use Rupay Credit card on UPI like normal residents?
Do they allow to UPI transfer money from NRE account to another NRE account using apps like BHIM app?

India must introduce more RuPay like systems and systematically kick out Visa and MasterCard
