I hate to be so blunt, but it just isn't.

$30 for a mobile-quality live-service game is insane.
I really don't know why we haven't gotten a classic Pac like this but with an ounce of a budget.

Its gonna take more than thay. Player count (at least on pc steam) never made it past 100 players. And 90% it sits at 0. This game requires 64 player lobbies that are just filled with bots at this point. And many of us just want pacman 99 back.
They really need to bring back "Pac-Man VS." From Namco Museum on the DS. One guy plays as Pac-Man, everyone else is a ghost, and it plays out how you expect. Pac-man eats dots to gain points, when a Ghost catches you, that ghosts trades places and becomes the next Pac-man, and you have to reach a specific amount of points across various games to win. I've poured hours into this mode with my cousins, it was a blast.
They ported the Gamecube version to Namco Museum Switch for what it's worth.

Splatoon 2 Octo expansion is my favorite DLC of all time but I can’t say it’s worth $80 if you don’t plan on playing the splatoon 2 multiplayer especially now that splatoon 3 is out. (And no, I haven’t played side orders, yes I will get to it eventually).
Guys, remember, Pac-Man 99 died for this shit. The only reason why this port exists is because Stadia died, and Namco needed something Pac-Man related this year. This game feels like a free to play, live service mobile game turned big console release. If they could just give us Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac, I would be happy, but I doubt they have even bothered to think about that at this point.
I love this game conceptually, and it is pretty fun every now and then, but I there are some design issues I feel really could've been better thought-out.
My biggest issue design-wise is that for a multiplayer battle royale, there's not a whole lot of player interaction. It feels like people tend to stay in their own mazes while getting eliminated by the AI-controlled ghosts, with players eliminating faster than mazes. The most players I have only ever seen in the same maze at once is... 3. 3 out of 64. The game is aware of this issue, and there are missions while you play that involve entering other mazes, but the issue is... you can simply not do them. From what I can tell they just contribute to a score that doesn't serve much purpose since the point of the game is to eliminate all the other players.
If I were the one to design this game, I'd make two major changes. First, I'd make it so that mazes eliminate faster, perhaps they could eliminate as soon as it is empty of players. Second, I'd make it so that players respawn infinitely when dying to ghosts. Dying to a ghost would still serve a penalty in some way, but make it so that the only way to actually get eliminated is by getting killed by another player.
Because this game has aspects that don't really serve a clear purpose like the score or clearing mazes, I'd probably add extra modes. Perhaps there could be a mode where the goal is to get the most points, with the player reaching the point goal being the winner. Or maybe a mode about conquering mazes, and whoever clears the most mazes wins. They could make it so that, just like the original game, mazes are harder to clear with each round, making it harder for other players to conquer your maze, but also being a challenge for yourself to get your maze to that point.
This game has a lot of potential but in the end it's a game with not much variety, and I fear it will meet the same fate as Pac-Man's last online battle royale, Pac-Man 99. I can at least say this is a better game than that was.
Also one last note, this version seems to weirdly be missing the Christmas maze theme (not the Winter theme that is in this version) from the Stadia version. I'd understand if they're planning to add it in December, but at the same time, they kept both the Santa hat and Reindeer Antlers cosmetics, and you'd *think* they'd be added in the same update as the Christmas maze theme. Also if they're planning to add it later, why wouldn't they do the same for the Halloween theme? It's all very odd.
Also also though the music isn't very memorable, I'd take that over the Stadia version having a complete lack of any music besides the menu. It made it feel so empty.

as someone with minimal interest in playing pacman, it's crazy if they expected someone like me to play this, especially buy it for $30AUD
You said everything I was thinking about the game. Word for word. I grew up man and boy with Pacman games, so I'll pretty much swallow anything they throw out, but like you I found this game a rare disappointment. I really wanted to love it just like I loved Pac World Re-Pac, but they dropped the ball on this one. it seemed lazy for sure. I still love Pacman museum too so probably will go back to playing that, What really annoyed me is that I had to renew my online Nintendo Online subscription just to play the game, so the sticker price was bad, but the add-on expenses made it worse. Loved your video, though, and I was glad in a way I wasn't the only Pac-fan alienated by this.

I feel like the minigames from Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness would be more interesting for this, at least it would be more content. There's also Pac-Man All Stars that was also kinda sorts a battle royale, why didn't they do that?
I enjoyed Pacman 99. Hope they bring it back on other platforms. I played it on the Switch and it was a lot of fun.

I remember the 4 player arcade battle royale being one of my favourite games at my local arcade, we usually played it during birthday parties. Altho it wasn't played on a tabletop, it was a screen framed to the wall with 4 pillar-like controllers in front of it. It got removed with the rest of the other good arcade games to make space for the bowling alley. The only arcade cabinets that remain are from old sega games (one of them has his human models distorted), for the rest it's moslty chinese cabinets for very young children and pool tables. There's another arcade near me wich i never went to but is now basically empty.

Honestly I've paid for it twice cause I got it first on the switch and I thought about it switch will soon be replaced with the next system so I bet many don't play it after that and since Nintendo doesn't give refunds ever I just said ok and got it on psn, after playing on both I was jamming to the music which I think of they add more remixes as dlci would get season passes or dlc packs (wasn't on purpose lol) for sure. I didn't see a good reason to get the deluxe version though I don't care enough to pay that much more for a few costumes in Pac-Man

I was planning on getting this, but I'd figure I'll just stick with Super Bomberman R-2's Battle 64 mode for my Battle Royal needs
But..i dont find any players in bomberman R-2,just a few rooms with 2 or 3 players at best

I just miss pac man 99 man. Sucks that even if you bought skins in the game (like I did) the game is still unplayable now.

I bought the offline DLC. So I can still play it, just doesn't have online anymore.

I hear there was a new Pac-Man game on Steam. I looked it up, and it was $30 USD for the full game. Due to the price, I decided to watch a review before just instantly buying it. I saw this. I'm reinstalling DX+.

I hate to say it, but I have a suspicion that this game will be discontinued. That's because Namco deleted all old Tales from PSN after Mutsumi Inomata passed away. Ubisoft is receiving a lot of criticism for terminating The Crew.

Like the concept behind the game...but Bamco set it out to die by making it twenty dollars with absolutely nothing else to do besides the elimination mode. Yeah, there's ranked...but it's the same thing with even less actual players. Maybe if the AI pac-men were at least a *little* smarter than the average reddit moderator...but sadly that's not the case.
