I appreciate the contributions of Ancient Greeks to the modern world - including great art. Don't think I'd want to live back then (lol), but it's inspiring to look back and see their advancements.

My question is, though, since Egyptian imagery was imagined as the ideal, as they believed that what they imaged would be the real, what says that they weren't shooting for perfect symmetry to recognize that geometric ideal as a spiritual ideal? Yes, contraposto is very HUMAN, but is it divine?

The Roman bronze statue and other Contrapposto are more related to our snapshots versus studio portraits, in that they convey a body in action. The bronze with its right arm slightly extended towards an imaginary interlocutor is in a position typical of an orator making an argument, explaining and trying to convince.
I had never before seen this marble statue of the sleeping man with his legs apart. What is its name?
Concerning body posture, it is healthiest to stand upright when we are not moving. Any habitual slouch can have bad repercussions on our spine and organs.

qwaqwa1960 all up through the early common era, I like to think they were painted by Greeks and romans as long as their ancient empires stood.
