    Ron Darling will always be my all-time favorite player.

    This was the game that changed the whole series. The 108 win Mets weren't going quietly...they didn't plan on going at all.

    VS listening to his voice my whole life here in so cal, & as a mets fan I couldn't wait to hear him call the game when the Mets were here or LA in NY, thanks for the memories Vinny!

    People who act like the Mets coming back in all these games was something crazy no one had foreseen - didn't watch the regular season. The Mets had been doing that same thing ALL SEASON. Out of their 108 wins, FORTY ONE of them were come-from-behind victories. That's nearly forty percent of their victories. That team was just special and the whole year was special.

    I'm 31. Wasn't even alive for this but my father told me stories. He was a huge Roger Clemens fan. I've been on a binge watching this series and even the ALCS against the Angles and the NLCS against the Astros. Sox were down to their last strike against the Angels was Dave Henderson blasted a homer. And that Mets Astros series was one of the best 6 game series in history, if not the best. Wish it went 7 as the Mets couldnt seem to figure out their former pitcher Scott. But that's why that series is so great, Game 6 was basically game 7. Anywho, crazy to see how this curse continued lol. Game 6 disaster, then not only that people forget and even I forget that part of the story my father told me, the Sox were up 3-0 in the 6th in game 7 as well. They blew that too. Just a collosal blow up lol. Typical of Red Sox at that time. If this team stayed together, specifically Clemens I don't think they would have had to wait until 2004 for the curse to be broken. That's the beauty of history.

      you have to also look at it. It would have been an upset for the Mets to not win. They were the best team in baseball that year on almost every category. Check their MLB stats for both leagues.

    I love Vin Scully letting me know "we're just starting" and inviting me to "pull up a chair." I prefer to stand Vin, if that's alright with you. (Seated or standing, I'm still a big fan.)

    Darryl would have hit 50 HRs a year playing in Fenway

      @@jpwjr1199 How? Guys didn't worry about launch angles or exit velocities or any of that other bullsh1t. Darryl hit a LOT of homers the other way and as you can see by that double, he was great at going the other way. Plus Fenway is NOT a big park at all. Why do you think Big Papi hit so many homers there?

      @jp783 10 місяців тому +2

      @@marcoslaureano5562 did you actually watch him play? Yes, he hit for power to all fields, but Fenway to right center is a graveyard. Strawberry hit MOST (not all) of his home runs, there. Ortiz cheated like crazy and was one of the many "sultans of shot" in an era with a juiced ball.
      You can't take away the right CF power alley away from a guy in any other era and expect them to hit 50. Not in the 80's or first half of the 90's. Forget it.

      If I'm not mistaken, the bullpens in Fenway are twice as big now than they were in this series. But that didn't have any effect on Ortiz's career. LOL

    Maybe it's just the whiskey catching up with me, but that fan behind home plate holding up a "Hi Mike" is kinda messin with me. I have watched every '86 LCS playoff game over the past few days and now am on game 4 of 86 WS and am starting to feel as though my hold on reality is becoming tenuous at best. Maybe that is not a bad thing.

    Watching Bill Buckner run in this series has got to be one of the most awkward sites in the history of postseason sports. From the waist down he looked like a 92 year old man. I don’t think he should’ve been playing in this series. It was only a matter of time until that injury ended up causing some kind of mishap. Of course, probably contributed to the mishap of all baseball mishaps.

    The Mets coming back in game six was no fluke. Seems like McNamara just ran out of pitching, and the Sox failed to take advantage of the fact that Ron Darling was not pitching well.... amazing really that the Sox came within a strike of winning the series... twice... after game 6 did anyone really expect the Sox to win game 7? Even when they took the lead? The Sox lacked pitching depth, even with great hitters like Barrett, Buckner, Gedman, Boggs - it just wasn't enough. I was rooting for the Sox because I respected them (a mostly very different team) for how well they played against my Reds in 75, and how well they played against Gibson and the Cardinals in 67. But I should have been rooting for the National League... even if I hated the Mets. I never made that mistake again.

    This game did not change the series because the Red Sox plan was to win games 1, 2, 5, 6 and they almost did that. Game 6 New York got lucky rally in 10th and game 7 was also close for a while.

      The Mets came back to win FORTY ONE GAMES that year. Nearly FORTY PERCENT of their victories were come from behind wins. They did NOT "get lucky". Red Sox just were NOT a better team.
