I can't give you an in-depth review of this motorcycle. But I can give you an unscripted ramble of lasting impressions that it has left me with over the last year of owning one of these great bikes.

@@namesfate Motojitsu is DEFINITELY your friend man.
Fast Eddie as he calls himself, at that youtube channel and website, is a very good instructor that has covered damn nearly everything in existence about beginner, medium and truly expert levels of riding ( including a perfect explanation of counter steering in a video last year)
here's the link to that video
      ua-cam.com/video/lzk8oyNO708/v-deo.html
Long story short, it doesn't matter the type of bike, he can knee drag, ..one handed WITH a passenger and not wreck. IF that isn't bad ass control through real practice and experience, I don't know what is.
Regardless, I recommend if possible you keep it simple for a good 15+ minutes straight of just focusing on clutch and brake control in an empty parking lot ( or close enough). You'll notice the bike can probably do between 3.5 and 5 miles per hour just from staying straight on a level path and no throttle what so ever.
Get into a habit of rear brake very slight first then front brake when you're practicing breaking. This way when you get out on the local 40 to 55 mph highways that have stop signs and redlights, you'll be able to break much more safely and overall quicker regardless if your bike has ABS or not. - Why? Because pressing the rear brake first just before pulling in the front brake makes the bike's center of gravity go forward and putting more contact of the front tire on the ground.
Then you'll have better and more balanced breaking power, but don't let go of the rear brake until you've basically stopped.
clean and Lube that chain every 450 to 600 miles depending on your weather conditions ( 450 if you're often riding in the rain) Pure kerosene is far cheaper than buying the name brand lubes and does just as good a job. Get a plastic spray bottle and a cheap small measuring cup and measure out around 2 ounces at most.
Either two car bottle jacks being used equally as possible or a padstand ( depending on your bike's style of swing arm or arms) will let you raise that rear tire evenly enough to allow you to check the engine oil with great accuracy also. just ensure you have a block of 2x4 wood or something about that thick handle to put the kick stand/side stand under, and tie some rope around the front handle bar brake to ensure that brake is engaged while you are getting that rear tire up for prep for chain maintenance
DON'T have the bike running in gear either. My friend made that mistake and he literally lost his index finger to the chain cutting/squooshing it like a meat grinder. Just get over having to spin the rear tire with one hand while spraying the chain and wiping it down with the other.
Cheers man, and welcome to bikelife.
Holla back if ya need some help.

    Wonderful voice, lovely review.
I recently bought, as a gift to myself for my 74th birthday, a 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 KRT Edition, a "crotch rocket"/sport bike. Then I joined a club of riders who mostly ride Harleys on their club rides.
Now you've got me thinking about an in-between bike, not totally a cruiser, not totally a sport bike, to ride with the guys. Decisions, decisions!

For a "non-review" this is, by far, the best review I have watched! Believe me, I've watched a ton. A very personal, and personable look at a great bike. As some have said...skip the whole "review aspect" and just get on with you and your bike! No one needs someone spouting off specs-we can read those-we want, and need, a real person with no agenda. Very well done video. Dare I say, one of the best I have seen to date! Liked and Sub'd! (I don't do that very often!)

Really looking into getting this to add to the collection. I have a 86' Kawasaki 454 LTD that I saved from scrap. Was the predecessor to the Vulcan 500 and then the Vulcan S. These bikes do have a lot of character and are great to ride. The orange you got is a smashing color. Stock photos don't do it justice or even in the dealership. Have fun and ride safe from the USA

I have the very same bike, and I adore it. It's been the only bike that hasn't killed my hip, and the posture on it is great. Great bike with great power, and I can't believe how well it takes curves and hills. Haven't really had an issue with the exhaust noise on stock though it is very quiet. I installed a quick release windscreen for long rides and a phone mount, and it's just a joy to cruise around on.
The dash is a fantastic piece of this bike. It has a gear indicator, tach, trip, range, digital speed, etc, which is loads more than any other bike in its price range.
My only negative, small may it be, is that the suspension is pretty damn stiff even at its softest.

Hi from Connecticut USA! I think you did excellent job on the review like all the people said, nice and personal. I have a 2003 Vulcan nomad 1500 and the bike is getting a little heavy for me, I am now 64 years old. I was thinking of getting a second bike and someone at the dealership recommended the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650 to kick around town.I can’t wait to try one in the spring, thanks for the review I enjoyed it!

I'll say definitely try the VS 650. Maybe get a few rides in over a week or two, just so you're not limited to making a choice on the spot. I've sat on a Vulcan 900 and will say it's much heavier but you feel the balance due to the weight. The VS650 is light so you might lose some of that "grounded" feeling, but it sure makes a difference once you're on the move. :)
      Hope you enjoy it!

Great vid! Thanks for the shout-out! Shea's first bike was a Yamaha VStar 250 that she learned on, after she passed her test we got her a 2015 Vulcan s, which got written off after a collision.. now she has Lucifer..and just like you, she absolutely loves that bike, unlike you, she has to be nagged to clean the bike & chain.. (Teens.. am I right?) She's been riding since she was just turned 16..and yeah, the US riding laws are pretty lax here.. she could have legally taken off on a Kawasaki H2 after passing her test. Lol!

I can not stop Looking at my Kawasaki Vulcan S. I’ve always been artistic, A photographer for many years.(Still images not video). I actually identify with video creators such as yourself that post wonderful stills as your video thumbnails as though the bike is a model. A slide show in this video a perfect example. The perfect subject. Statuesque. Perfect form. A steel horse. Modern mixed with classic. As you know it doesn’t stop there. I’m simply mentioning looks. Then you have the same long list as myself based on performance alone. This weekend I actually parked “Blue” in a position where I could sit in my yard and just stare at her. I bought her only 3 weeks ago in the brand new-Storm Cloud Blue. It just spoke to me. A classic color. I enjoy your videos and the beautiful countryside.

Ever since it's introduction, the moment I saw it, I told to myself I'm going to get THAT ! And I still want it, badly. The thing is, I'm in that point in life where such an investment does more harm than good. But once things settle and I get a good grip on 'em... Maybe it won't be the first thing since a car is way more practical, but one day I am going to get me one of these, I know that.
Despite your statements, I do think this is a review and a good one at that. Sure, it's not too technical and all that, but I don't want you to go over a list of specifications. I enjoyed this a lot because it was more ... personal. The bike was yours for a year and you got a pretty good feeling on what's it about and you exposed it here for us which I appreciated. Cheers mate !

It is worth mentioning that Vulcan S has a parallel-twin engine instead of a V-twin design, and therefore, it has very different control riding characteristics. When I go to very light throttle, it gets a slight vibration/shudder. Not really lugging motor and it will accelerate fine. The Vulcan S simply doesn’t like “light throttle “. It likes to be wound out and shifted around 5000 rpm. I wanted to shift at 2000 rpm and ride at 2500 to 3000 rpm and Vulcan S engine doesn’t like that (shudder and vibrate). I now shift at 4500 to 5000 rpm and cruise around 5000 rpm. It just takes some getting used to (for those who used to ride a V-twin bike).

I picked up a brand new 2020 black/gold Vulcan S a couple of weeks ago. I have ~250 miles on it. I have ridden dirt bikes and 4 wheelers my whole life, and this bike is VERY different. Forward controls are gonna feel weird for people who are used to mid controls. That isn't a problem as forward controls are ubiquitous amongst cruiser style bikes. The power is great fun. This bike is screaming-fast at lower/normal street speeds, and if you need to pass on the highway... this bike has enough of power. Handling is good, but you really have to push the front end of the bike through the corner and trust it... you can't put your weight in your feet (because of forward controls) and lean way into corners. The stock exhaust could to be louder, but the intake sound between your legs is glorious at 4500+ rpms. It will put on a good show for you. The first night I got this bike and bombed it down a back road, it was absolutely thrilling. I have gotten used to the acceleration, and it is very manageable. You aren't gonna spin the back tire or lift the front tire unless you are really trying to do that. Super great bike for someone looking to ride regularly and in all conditions. It won't destroy a new rider, but it will give experienced riders plenty to work with. I highly, highly recommend it to anyone interested in purchasing one. As mentioned in the video the throttle can feel "jerky", especially at lower RPMs. It is a mid-range sport bike engine, and it wants you to ride it fast. The throttle is basically on/off, and the engine braking is strong. I have heard that the "Booster Plug" smooths out the lower RPMs and it is much cheaper than a power commander (also doesn't require tuning/dyno). I love it. This one is a keeper. GL to all you potential Vulcan S owners. P.S - the rear brake is surprisingly good, and don't forget to use it... I chirped my front tire a few times doing a controlled "emergency stop" recently, and it was stable. I do not have ABS on my model. I do not think ABS is necessary if you are used to riding bikes... that being said: don't forget to mash that rear brake just as hard as the front one when you are stopping in a straight line. Ride safe!

Wanted a bike of the “sports cruiser” genre. Very nearly for this after trading in my Hornet after passing my test. Then thought, did I really put myself through all that on a 600 just to ride a 650, and many people said you get bored and trade in again pretty soon as your experience builds in the first months. So I got the Suzuki M1800R Intruder. which is awesome in many ways. But it’s also a handful to live with and I sometimes still look at the Vulcan S with yearning. Maybe Ai need a second bike.

    Interesting review. I have subscribed.
I am considering a test ride on one of these, so I tapped in the bike's make / model and found this video. The rear mudguard: is it metal? If so, with the seat off it could take an sizeable magnetic tank bag. All you'd need to tour solo is one on the mudguard and a smaller one on the tank. Just a thought.
Edit: good music at the end. What is it, please?

    • @UncleRed
      @UncleRed  3 роки тому +1

The orange bodywork at the rear appears to be from fiberglass/plastic.
You can replace the rear seat with a luggage rack, otherwise there are strapped luggage bags available which could be secured under and over the rear seat.

      Hello!
So for the seat, I've opted for a sheepskin cover for comfort, but does keep your cheeks a little cooler during the hot weather. Saddlebags are down to personal preference but the ones I've had from CustomSpain.com have been marvelous. Can't say much about wind shields as I don't really get along with them, but highly suggest some floorboards and a little plastic thing that clips on to the throttle so you don't have to grip the bars for hours.

The led bulb doesn't create its light at the focal point in the reflector so creates light scatter, this is a fault with all after market led bulbs that are sold to replace the standard halogen. My advice is buy a zenon 472 bulb rather than the halogen one, the zenon allows filament to burn hotter so gives off a brighter white light in the focal part of the headlamp.
