I'm always awestruck of what people built during those times. It was all so huge and grand and built with hand tools and determination. Thanks for taking us along to see this wondrous sight!
As a stone carver it’s a lot of work but quite doable.
I’m a petite 5 foot tall woman who preferred hand tools for years.
Unfortunately at 75 I don’t do it anymore.
I’m still amazed by the scale of the abbey.
Thank you Phil and Caroline for taking us around these wonderful places.
See you tomorrow. Byee👋🇨🇦👋
Yes Joni, we always take time to remember the people who created these wonderful places. So glad you enjoyed the tour, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
With your skill and experience Dee, you'll understand the time and patience it must have taken to build such a place 700 years ago. We're so glad that the scale of the ruins was conveyed in the video, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Thank You Phil and Caroline
Our pleasure Jeannie, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Wonderful tour...thank you! How wonderful to live near such a magnificent ruin. Food for thought in it's construction...it must have been a site to behold when all the windows were in place!😱🤗a fine history tour Phil and Caroline.
The picturesque was practically considered a science back in Gilpin's time. It puts me in mind of Jane Austen and the craze for Gothic novels. I love it all!
You're so right, it was like a science to them at the time, and some seemed to want to capture it in words and watercolours, while others felt it needed improvement to be more pleasing on the eye. But there's no denying it is very 'picturesque'. 🙂😎🐼
Thank you for the adventure!😍
Our pleasure Tracy, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I had to go back and rewatch your visit to the abbey. It is magnificent. The framed views of the surrounding countryside would have to be as magnificent if not more than the ruins. Thank you for transporting me to the abbey to share in the wonder.
So glad you enjoyed being at the Abbey with us Lynda, and we know what you mean about the framed views, it's as if the ruined Abbey is now fused into the setting and has become one with its surroundings. Such a special place to be, and all the more, as we had the joy of sharing it with you, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I so very much enjoyed the views through the Abbey . We can only imagine the hours that it took for the craftsmen to complete the decorative stonework . Thank you Phil , and Caroline . Enjoyed !
Glad you enjoyed the Abbey tour Myrtha, as you say it must have taken years to complete all those carvings. Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I give that thumbs up a thumbs up 👍
Me too 😉
Love the historical tour. What a beautiful place. I'm seeing places with that I wouldn't have ever been able to see. Keep it up. I just love them.
Glad you enjoyed the historical tour Mary, it's great to have you with us. 🙂😎🐼
Thank you so much for giving us this private tour.Wonderful to learn a bit of the history of this Abbey.
Great video!
Loved this video , of course the History was Great and the poem portion was so good . Viewing the structures remains is a good way to imagine times past . Great one Phil, Caroline , and Manky . The bread sounds delicious. " Just Lovely " 💖💞💜🌝
Glad you enjoyed this trip Rosia and the poem and Gingerbread too. Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
I just love being along with you both !!!!! 💞
Thank you Phil and Caroline! Such an amazing place! The bloopers😂 haha! I always am like that Phil, so excited I can’t speak lol
So glad you liked the Abbey Adam, and enjoyed the Bloopers 😱😂 thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Ahh a dream..Wouldn't it be wonderful if all the stonemasons there got together and rebuilt and fixed this grand building! I can only imagine how wonderful it would be for the builders and the those who would watch it all come together! If that was put into a video I would think it would be the most popular video out there! What a magnificent piece of history! Thank you for sharing your travels with us all. :)
Thank you Debra, we are always in awe when we visit these places and think of the people who built them. 🙂😎🐼
I wasn't there, sorry! I was captured, just like the poet, by the beauty of our world! I made a snowman. Ice is beginning to retreat on the St-Lawrence, and while we won't be able to walk un the sand for weeks, it's marvelous to see white floats pulled by the tides, lazily going down the river.
That sounds amazing Lise, and you are so right to take time to enjoy the things that can't be repeated, and then watch the video later. Take care and thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
You managed to translate the feeling that goes with the awe and beauty of this incredible place! Sure enjoyed your presentation!
Thank you so much Rita, we're so glad you enjoyed the presentation 🙂😎🐼
Phil and Caroline, Thank you so very much for this! I wish with all my heart I could come back to England and visit all the places I missed!!!!!❤
Glad you enjoyed it the trip around the Abbey Lark, and until you can return, we'll keep taking you to the beautiful places we visit. 🙂😎🐼
Thanks for a great adventure Phil and Caroline. Loving the medieval gingerbread!! ❤
Glad you enjoyed the adventure Leanne, and the Gingerbread was very tasty 🙂😎🐼
Such a beautiful Abbey, and so much history - thank you so much my lovelies xx Teresa 🇦🇺❤
So glad you enjoyed visiting the Abbey Teresa, it really is such a beautiful place, 🙂😎🐼
👍

Such stunning architecture, great cooking Caroline. Love the history Phil and the poem topped it off. Take care and thank you for sharing the splender👍🙏❤️
Glad you enjoyed the tour Yvonne, we are very lucky to live so near, it's only about an hour from our home. 🙂😎🐼
Stunning architecture, achingly beautiful ruins! I think I prefer not having the roof and glass❤
Yes Angela, we agree, the way the ruin blends into the landscape is far more beautiful than just another grand building. The ruin as a unique beauty and an incredible atmosphere, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
What a spectacular drive on our outing today! Beautiful. Caroline, I could imagine those windows with glass, and I also imagined the monks gliding along silently in their robes on their way to services or about their daily routines. It was all really atmospheric. Just imagine them in the kitchen, firing up ye old food processor to make their gingerbread! 😄 But now of course I see why it's called gingerbread. I thought Phil tackled it very gingerly too. Another fact-packed episode Phil, and you can be my tour guide any day. But what ailed the Rev. Williams? He needed to go to Specsavers! I'd love to be there when it is as serene as you found it. It's a beautiful ruin in a beautiful setting.
We're so pleased that the atmosphere wasn't lost in the recording, and thank you for your lovely word pictures of the "monks gliding along silently in their white robes." We agree , the Rev. definitely needed to go to Specsavers. 😄👓😂 So glad you enjoyed it so much, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
☀Fantastic history ..Very interesting video ! As children Father took us here and to many castles too. Thank you Phil and Caroline x
Our pleasure Jane, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
It may be in ruins but, is still bet. Thank you for the history and tour. I know I’ve thanked you several times for the history. It’s fascinating to me to hear of the history.
Glad you enjoyed the history Denise, it's great to know how much you like the stories, thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
Thanks for such an informative tour of these beautiful ruins! 😎
Our pleasure Anne, thanks for joining us 🙂😎🐼
👍🏻🥳

Thank you for your tours. I do miss the mudlarking but it is understandable that it does get dangerous with the mud and water. Plus you can only find so much of old items. I really enjoy seeing the places you take us. I would love to travel but that is not possible. So I travel with you on TV. Thanks for being you. You both are so nice. Hugs from Texas. If postage was less I would seny you some small country cookbooks.
Thank you Elaine, it's great to hear how much you enjoy travelling with us. Hugs from Wales 🙂😎🐼
Thank you for this video of this amazing abbey. I have been to Jedburgh Abbey in Scotland but it is no where as grand as this place. I would love to see Tintern Abbey one day.
So glad you enjoyed the Abbey visit Debra, and we hope you get to see Tintern for yourself one day 🙂😎🐼
Magnificent! You are so lucky to have all that history so close to you. I think that is one of the largest abbey's I have ever seen in all my travels. I can imagine all the hustle and bustle when it was a functioning compound of buildings. I am not sure I would like the medieval gingerbread, I am not fond of Black Pepper, could you taste that? Great video guys, have a wonderful week.
We are lucky to live with so much history and countryside Laura. We think they added the black pepper to spice it up as it was cheaper than Ginger. It did taste very nice. 🙂😎🐼
🙋♀️❤ Such rich history! Henry the 8th probably pulled all support!
I'm so curious about the ginger bread! Maybe it should dry out a while?
Glad you liked the history Margaret. The gingerbread was very tasty but being a medieval recipe it was very different to what we're used to these days. Thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼🐼
Is this the one and same?
Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey, On Revisiting the Banks of the Wye during a Tour. July 13, 1798 William Wordsworth
Ha.....I guess I should've waited until the end to comment.
Well recognised. You know your Wordsworth, which could help in the quiz tonight 😄 thanks for watching 🙂😎🐼
@@LetsgowithTheJohnsons Old Literature teacher here. I am beyond thrilled for the tour. Our old Lit books had a drawing of just one skeletal section. If I was still teaching, I would show this along with the study of the poem.
And subscribe
Thanks Laura 🙂😎🐼
