    While the shark is in tonic immobility, it's brain releases a lot of endorfines, and it actually causes pleasure on the shark, that's why most sharks return to get "immobilized" again. So basically, he's a sharkwanker.

    If you watch the docu' and study the tonic state, from my understanding, then all the vital processes slow right down. The shark is using far less oxygen and is basically just ticking over with very little awareness of its surroundings. Additionallty it is clearly a natural state as the full documentary demonstrates that sharks mating go through the same process, lying practically comotose for up to 15 minutes stationary on the bottom. Its a process we clearly understand very little about.

    • @porpus99
      @porpus99 9 років тому +26

      megunded Yes and no. It all depends on the type of shark. Some sharks are able to remain stationary for long periods of time, nurse sharks are a good example. Reef Sharks are able to I believe, but do not quote me on that.

    • @GHOST-in-the-MACHINE
      @GHOST-in-the-MACHINE 7 років тому +18

      +megunded You can put smaller sharks under (tonic immobilisation), whereas larger sharks end up suffocating. Some shark-hunting pods of orca, around the coasts of California, Mexico, and New Zealand, actually use this bit of information to effortlessly and safely kill and eat great white sharks (which are of the kind that end up suffocating if held upside down). It takes them about 15 to 30 minutes to suffocate a great white shark in this manner.

    • @angelicstorm4985

      I'm not sure if it is this same guy or not. But if it is, he was also able to catch the mouth of a tiger shark, and as he put it into tonic, they both swam down to the bottom together. He was also able to do it to a great white, though it only lasted about 2 seconds. But his hands were over the sharks upper-mouth. The shark never attacked him. Granted, it took him some time to do it to the great white. But it just shows more and more that they aren't like what we always thought.

      There are people who got very injured by trying to boop the wrong kind of shark, but I think that’s a matter of misidentification- don’t blame Duxelles for some guy dying of eating a mushroom he found in the woods. But also it’s kind of naive to think that some people don’t have access to that kind of thing. But also children can’t get certified for this and if someone gets maimed because they mistake a nurse shark or a tiger shark for a nurse tiger shark, that’s kind of a them problem. And maybe a whoever named the nurse tiger shark problem.

      I'm pretty sure if you rub a sharks snout, it'll go into tonic immobility because tats where there sensory organs are, just a theory.

    They'll never look at sharks the same way again... *wears full chain mail when around them*

  • @adroitredtiger
    @adroitredtiger 13 років тому +6

    I'm going to assume that this was only possible due to his chain mail armor. The metal armor would cause a significant reaction to the sharks nose, which has a special organ that uses electrical signals to give it a "radar" of electrical impulses around ti (i.e. heartbeats, etc). If he were to approach a shark in human form (i.e. not covered in a conducive metal), then he would be lunch.
