That thing is cool! I bet it would do fine in a live band setting. In the 1960s few kids had Fenders or Voxs of size. I wished I would've had one. My 18 watt Vox Cambridge was underpowered.
I bought my first Silvertone around 66 or 67. It was a piggy back one and sounded terrific. I believe it had six speakers-not sure cause there was a smaller one also- and we used it for lead guitar, rhythm, bass and mikes-all at once. LOL
This reminds of when I was 13 years old in 1966. I had just got this amp used, at a music store for $125 I think. I got it home and plugged in my brand new $50 Kingston Japanese bass. And jammed out. Getting feedback on the reverb channel. And thinking this is how Jimi Hendrix must feel.
My first amp was a 1964 twin twelve with the silvertone guitar. Found another cab and had a full stack like the big boys . Paid $60.00 in 1977. played alot on that. You could hear the reverb unit every time you bumped it.Those were the good ole days. learned how to play on that and a record player.
I have; these Silvertone amplifiers. 1481, 82, 83, 84 they are all great amps as the first amplifier was the 84 I saved my money and mail ordered through the sears and roebuck catalog. The 1484 Twin Twelve and the Bobcat Jaguar sunburst with tremolo bar. Super clean sound very pop tone friendly. The reverbs are diffent but added a different feel for me. I was 14 years old. I started a garage band in 3 months later as I learned pop songs from the 45 records. I still enjoy all of my Silvertone amplifiers. Oh I forgot I have the 1485 6x10 mint condition. Jack White favorite.
Wow . Neat amp. Really nice cleans and a nice classic overdrive. I can hear that tone on a lot of recordings from that era. I liked that garage punk you threw in at the end. Well done.
I have one of those that was stored in a shed in the back yard for 35 years. Now - I'm going to have to hook it up and check it out. Thanks for the video
Had a six ten and twin 12 in the mid 60's! Went into the service and got back, both had been sold for my brother to buy a premier drum set! Miss those rigs!
This was my first amp in 1964. Paid fifty bucks for it. The only reason I bought it was because it looked cool with the head sitting on the speakers. I even turned the cabinet sideways so it would look taller. I played in a band with a lead player that had a Fender Bandmaster. I never realized how crappy these amps sounded until I heard the Fender right next to it. They sounded crappy then and still sound bad today. But I loved it. I traded it in for a new Gibson SG Standard in 1971.
Thank you for playing aggressive chords at high volumes. Every other demo is some guy playing really soft jazz shit...this amp is meant to be rocked on!!!
I had the 10 watt 8 inch version...maybe 5 watts. I was twelve and didn't pay attention to such things I have been chasing that tone like a junkie chases his first high ever since
Bought one of these from Sears in 1964 for about $125 brand new. Ugly as anything but sounded great. Traded it in for a Gibson Titan Medalist. Try finding a video on that beast!
Saw your ebay listing....I have a mint one....yours is even more mint!! These things sound awesome....local retailer selling one not as good as yours for same price....so your price is good....good luck...
Many things: dying tubes, bad filter caps, loose input jacks, hard to tell without mode detail... To get this most out of this amp it really needs to have both channels jumpered like any other Marshall/Fender of the era with multiple channels and inputs

That's a very versatile amp, it has almost every tone you could want. Fab!
I still have mine purchased in 1965. All original everything. Nostalgia amp.
That's remarkable! Does it still work?

Mad respect to you my friend
Sounds fuckin killer, its super clean. Its like a mix of vox and fender tube amps. Great amp for pedals

got one over 30 years ago... still works!

In 1966 I had a red Hagstrom 2 pickups with this amp/2 x12’ cabinet. Great reverb. If I recall the amp head tucked away into the cabinet.
Thanks! Excellent review. Gigged with one in the '60s
Ignore the previous commenter. You sound good. Great demo. I would love to have a Sears Silvertone. Great amp. Guitars were nice too.
Thank you for playing aggressive chords at high volumes. Every other demo is some guy playing really soft jazz shit...this amp is meant to be rocked on!!!
i had one of these that came w/ a 66' 1446 hallow body w/ bigsby..
A friend gave me one today.i just need a cabinet.. thanks Jeff...
Nice assortment of different tones , sounds killer my friend!

you are a living legend
Fellow Gibson owner of the rarer-still Gibson Two-Hundred amp. Very similar to this amp although wasn't designed to distort
Saw your ebay listing....I have a mint one....yours is even more mint!! These things sound awesome....local retailer selling one not as good as yours for same price....so your price is good....good luck...
Indeed, superb amps. A new boutique amp would cost double the price these days!
Jack Black would be proud
I own the same exact amp but it gets no distortion whatsoever like this one. It only stays as a clean sound. Any idea what may be wrong?
Many things: dying tubes, bad filter caps, loose input jacks, hard to tell without mode detail... To get this most out of this amp it really needs to have both channels jumpered like any other Marshall/Fender of the era with multiple channels and inputs
Those amps suck that's what's wrong.
does this take effects well?
Yes!
Hey dude where do you have the patch chord that is running from the back of the cab plugged into?
How loud does this thing get?
Fairly loud, great for recording, enough volume for a club gig.
am i the only one who thinks this amp is alot beefier than most 6l6 amps
Honestly a really good amp with nice tremolo but garbage reverb
That was my first amp in 1966. I hated it even then.
Had one in 67! Lousy reverb!
PLEASE TUNE THAT MUTHA BRO. Great sound but damn I was cringing bc you need a tuner badddddly. Wow. Tune! It's super easy.
"Stop your sobbin'" Trol. "Yeah Yeah...go please, go please." Nice amp
Not in very good taste for a music outlet..
That's a very versatile amp, it has almost every tone you could want. Fab!
