    This guy knows how to make that bass sing. Not just a bunch of technical mumbo-jumbo. His playing conveys some true emotion.....not just a display of technique......love it

    Man, Victor plays so effortlessly. Smile on his face as he channels the love from the greater source of light and positivity! One of the greatest musicians of our era, and up there in the best musicians of all time category too.

    Victor Wooten's bass playing brings me genuine joy. I mean brilliant, soul lifting happiness. This is such an amazing song as well. How someone wrote that melody, i will never know. I've been playing guitar for around 5 years now, this is still incredible.

    Awesome and I;m always in awe of Victor. But a little puzzeled too. This song had one of the best bass lines that ever came out of Motown and it would'a been great to hear Victor do a verse with something close to the the original bass line. Even if you don't like bass soloists you can't knock this legond!

    I don't even play bass I'm a guitarist and I consider this guy one of the all time grand masters of music, because he just didn't study scale and memorized patterns and shit! no he went beyond and actually got fluent in the language of music, literally like a second language, his instrument being like our vocal chords!

      *****
      Headless guitars (particularly basses) are actually quite common since (Ned) Steinberger started making them in the late 70's. It eliminated weight on the (usually unbalanced) neck and the tuning machines are mounted on the tailpiece with a much finer gear ratio ( threads of 40:1 as opposed to traditional 18:1) Unfortunately, Ned later licensed his name to several companies that basically built trash with his name on it Can't tell what ax he's playing, but it is so drenched in chorus it makes no difference. I'm not trolling, I just play (real) Steinbergers and thought you may be interested. Cheers!

    @Harbec The tenor tuning (ADGC) is very fun! :) It's a very nice musical range and makes chords very pretty. I think Vic got the idea from Stanley Clarke, who's been using a tenor bass since the 70's. But this bass is strung normal. (EADG) The tenor bass is sitting to the right of his amp in this vid. It's a mid-80's Fodera with a maple top and a little yin-yang inlay with an inlaid banner that says "Victor L. Wooten."

  • @Surfer8652
    @Surfer8652 9 років тому +8

    This is awesome. But as awesome as it is, I think for this song it would've been more impressive for Victor to play Jamerson's bass line than to play the melody. Hell, he could incorporate both the vocal line and bass line in to one super awesome bass solo arrangement (this is Victor Wooten after all). It just doesn't make sense not to honor a true bass hero while covering this song, on the bass...
