WotC really needs to release a Gods book like Volo's and Mordenkainen, because it'll help with expanding the knowledge of these deities for 5e, their followers and other aspects for Clerics/Paladins/Druids/DMs. a book about Celestials, Fey and the realms/deities of Good would also help for evil campaigns

2 Hats On Top I think that’s the joke
John. F Kennedy I think, I don't know, but I think that was on purpose.
Vecna's a God? I thought we stopped him on a certain livestream!
God in one campaign, demigod in another one.
An alternate reality where Vecna wins
Well technically he's stuck in Ravenloft, incapable of ascending to godhood and incapable of conquering his former ally and subordinate, the ascendant Kass, who opposes him with an army in a never ending battle of death, undeath, and ressurrection.
Why do I have the feeling that both of you don't get that there's no "this is how it is"? There is nothing such as a set of rules on how Vecna works and what his story is. There are as many versions of Vecna as there are DMs using him. TSR made him a lich turned demigod who killed the circle of eight; Mercer made him a lich who'd failed to become a god once before; I made him an elven scholar who destroyed the knowledge of an entire empire, causing it to fall. For most of the gods I rarely use more than the name and general description. "Pelor, the God of Light"? Great, I don't care what the books say, he's now a Paladin who rose to godhood.
Don't hold on to what others have written down for their world, take it and make it your own
Also everyone noticed that one of the pictures shown in Iouns part was clearly Scanlan Shorthalt

Very correct, except you got it the wrong way around
For those that don’t already know, these gods are not the vanilla 5e pantheon, but more akin to the dawn war pantheon (Pelor, for example being a greyhawk deity). For a brief overview of those gods, take a peak at the back of the PHB and do a little research on them!
Forgotten Realms gods are instantly forgettable...
@@johnharrison2086 Which is why Corallon, Bane, and freakin' Lolth are mentioned in this proposed pantheon, yes. Although mayhap your missing that more proves your point than refutes it.

He's just a regional misinterpretation of Pelor. This vexes Pelor greatly, but thankfully we can ignore the Forgotten realms.
I am planning on playing a Oath of Redemption Paladin worshipping Lathander!
While lore-wise some of the info is incorrect (which sometimes doesn’t matter at all), this is honestly an amazing overview for a lot of deities and a great way to get an idea of what goes on in the Divine pantheons. It’s always a massive celestial tug of war from all sides when it comes tot he D&D multiverse. And adventurers inevitably are a part of that.
Well, what is correct changes all the time. And from campaign to campaign anyway.
What is the lore of the Raven Queen? Is it the mortal who, after her death was forced to become the mate of Nerull, till she got rid of him and absorbed some of his powers? Or is it the elven queen who sought power to stop the war between Corellon and Lolth but was betrayed during her ascension, which shattered her body and mind?
See? In something like Elder Scrolls or Warcraft there may be an official lore, but D&D doesn't have that. There might be a "right" for the Forgotten Realms, one for Krynn, or one for Eberron, but every campaign is unique, and so is it's lore; including the history and portrayal of the gods
Davos Well there IS lore. The problem is that some things changes from edition to edition with 5e really omitting things or focusing entirely on Forgotten Realms after 4e (which from what I hear was a train wreck when it comes to previous lore). However, a big point of D&D has always been the fact that you can play it however you want. But if you throw the game aspect out the window and just look at the content and tales, there’s actually a lot of things that are “cannon” so to speak with some progressing stories. Of course whether one cares or not depends just like what is considered personally true depends. But there is lore for sure. Just depends on interpretation and personal preference.

Thank you for this.
Thanks a bunch, really hard to find a comprehensive summary of this what with all the other pantheons and settings out there confusing things.
I really like the more mature presentation! Other kinds of videos are fun. But this was much much better. Looks good.
That was Great information thanks for that.
Enjoyed this look at the gods. Video on the deities of the forgotten realms from the phb in the future?
Very nice art you used here.
Keep up the good content!!!
Literally exactly what I needed right now!
I sorta wish you did your other videos more like this as it makes it easier to understand for me.
Thanks, this will help me with my gods in my campaign.
My setting has four tiers of Gods:
Ancients: these gods are the representation of their respective domains. The blue eyed crow is the ancient God of destruction. Without the blue eyed crow, nothing could ever be destroyed. These gods together form the universe, and act on pure instinct. All of these gods are omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient.
The Far Ones: these gods rule everything that isn't. These are gods of impossibility, incomprehension and nothingness. Gods of everything that could have been, or could never have been. By far the weirdest gods. (I usually tie them to all the lovecraftian stuff)
The Aspects: these gods are aspects of the Ancients. They differ in that their existence is not necessary for the existence of the universe, and that they possess will, thoughts, personalities etc. They are also not omnipotent, omniscient or omnipresent.
The Faithmade: faithmade gods are easy enough to understand. They are gods brought forth by the faith of believers. This is where a lot of classical gods would end up. Jehovah, Shiva, Pelor, the Raven Queen.
In my world, one of the biggest theological debates is whether Faithmade gods are just Aspects molded by beliefs to better communicate with believers.
Would the aspects communicate with the ancient ones? Acting like a sort of receptionist or middle man to them?
@@j.w.7608 The ancients are more like forces of nature than sentient beings, so they can't really communicate in that way. The aspects simply represent different parts of the ancients. Communication is not necessary because they are kinda part of the same being.
However, since the ancients are more just forces of nature, and the aspects are the actually sentient gods, nobody really prays to the ancients. All those prayers go to the aspects since they actually can listen and answer.
For that reason, there are no clerics, paladins or warlocks that channel the power of the ancients. I do rule that sorcerers can get their power from the ancients, but more as in that maybe they once encountered an ancient and simply by being in its presence, they were charged with so much magical energy that they can do sorcery.
@@lexsmithee652 ahh thank you for clarifying!!

That's Pathfinder, not D&D. Different pantheon
Great introduction to the default 4th edition pantheon. New players should be aware that cosmogony varies by campaign setting. Players should ask their game master what the cosmogony of your setting is before choosing to follow a god.
This video is so different from the newer stuff I've seen! No less interesting or helpful, but I wasn't expecting it to be so free of shenanigans.
Ooo! I like this list of deities!

RIP to this style of video from Logan. I actually now want more videos of vanilla D&D. Like the history of Faerun its clans and kingdoms. It's nice for people who are starting a prewritten adventure or going to join an adventure league etc. And also videos like these for Wildemount and Eberron too. Yes please.
Now for a video on the Greyhawk Gods. I need me some more Istus love in this world
Very informative
Id love in depth videos on any these and usually just know the god that are of the race orc gruumsh, dwarf moradin, ect but i feel most of us newer players that haven't been playing 10+ years are really missing a lot of lore with most if not all of the gods of d&d and unless its gods that hate others its hard to think of what the personality of that god is which makes it hard for Dm to really dive into gods unless a player specifically brings one in most of us i feel wouldnt know what a god wants in the world other then for their followers to win and maybe one other god to be the first to loose. any tips for a dm that really wants to show his new players how different and plentiful the gods are?
A 4e pantheon video in 2018? Never before have I been more surprised
Love your vids
This was great! Can you do similar videos for the other Pantheons?
Dawn War is BY FAR the simplest pantheon in D&D, so a video on other pantheons would be quite difficult.
My only issue is some weird pronunciation and mispelling Tempest as "Tempist", but top tier content nonetheless. Can't wait to show this to my newer players.
THANK YOU. I've been trying to figure out who the big Gods in D and D were. I'm playing a Chaotic Good Barbarian, and wasn't sure what God he should worship. I guess Kord is my guy. 😁

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth Manu the wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Descriptivists would tell you. It's a Prescriptivist legend. Darth Manu was a Dark Lord of the Prescriptivists, so powerful and so wise he could use the Grammar to influence the words to correct spellings... He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from misspelling. The dark side of the Grammar is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful... the only thing he was afraid of was losing his power, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his apprentice everything he knew, then his apprentice corrected him in his sleep. Ironic, he could save others from misspellings, but not himself.
Manu Tarazona 10/10
And having missed that listing in the video itself, I find myself suspecting it's really supposed to be 'Tempus,' patron of Viking analogs and a god of weather and battle (but not so much war).

Oh crap you're from the old universe, aren't you? Well the God-Emperor, blessed be His name, channeled the incredible psychic explosion caused by His "death" in order to deal a death-blow to the Ruinous Powers. In a last-ditch attempt to keep Chaos alive, they gave the Daemon Princes that may yet survive all that remained of their power, indirectly granting them all free will. The Emperor reclaimed what Sons could be saved and destroyed whatever Chaos remained in their souls, returning them to His light. He shattered and all His radiant goodness coalesced into the primarchs, giving them rebirth as the new gods of Law and Goodness. Those Daemon Princes and Daemon Primarchs that strayed from the Emperor's light and refused to return became the new gods of Chaos and Evil. The Neutral gods are the unified fragments of the new gods that did not fit within their new domains and were expelled, forming these strange beings. All caught up now?
