My dad must have good taste in games. This was among many, many games that he rented and eventually bought for me when I was young. This ended up being one of my favorite games on the Playstation and one of my favorite platformers in general. Very much recommended for those even slightly curious. It can be cutesy, but usually charming and not overbearing.
this was my first ps game, and the first game i ever played in my first own console, i can still remember how impressed my mom was with the graphics, and they still are really awesome, good ol days
One of my favourite platformers. Played and completed back in 1998, when I had borrowed it off a younger cousin. I admit to having it on epsxe170 - but recently I was able to pay some 8 dollars for it officially 'Klonoa' from Sony's PSN store to relive on PS3. It would be nice if its PS2 sequel(s) would also be made available on the network :-)
oh my god i love this game i played it on ps1 and recently got the remake for the wii and i still love it at 19 years old i feel like a little kid so happy just to play klonoa again
I was just playing on my ps classic that has all the games on a hard drive. I can't rationalize spending the money many games cost now. Not throwing shade just my personal.
You failed to mention the remake of this game that they made for the Wii. It is a very faithful remake. They really just upgraded the graphics and left the rest of the game alone.
wow this is a cool game. this is the review you said you would make mark, glad to see that you aren't one of those people on youtube who takes a million years to make a video they promised and claim they were "busy" awesome show mark
Nice looking 2.5D I haven't played yet but need to try. It seems all the 2.5D platformer games that came out in the mid 90s weren't that popular because every one want full 3D at the time. As a sega fan I would recommend the Bug! series, Nights Into Dreams, and Clockwork Knight series for the Saturn. Also very creative gameplay. I'd send them to the show but I'm broke.
One of these days you're gonna have to fly Mohammed out there to cohost an episode of the show... the guy is practically an honorary member of the CGR staff as it is.
Glad to start off the years of one my favorite 2.5 plaformers ever. Remember playing the demo for the game with that sweet music. Then years later I forgot about the game in my memories until look at underrated games and klonoa one of them. I had to play this game. Namco really have a winner but too bad around that time people only care about 3d games. In my opinion there missing a real gems and now game become pretty rare. But least psn version and the wii version of the game at cheaper price
Funny you should post this review because I just got the 2nd game on PS2 for 8 bucks a week or so ago and have been meaning to get this one but it's rather expensive on Amazon. Lol. Almost 40 bucks I think. I think I'll wait.
never heard of this game or series or character before, dont remember it ever being marketed at least not in the uk dont even remember seeing it in any stores. shame looks decent platformer
Still one of my favourite platformers. I had the biggest smile on my face when you showed the menu screen

Good to know this old favourite of mine is still remembered.

Best review in a long time, Mark. Nice way to start this year =)
Used to love this game back in the day. I upgraded from Amiga1200 to Ps1. I now play this sometimes via epsxe1.8. Cool Game.
Just bought this the other week. Memories!
It's on PSN and on a discount. I'm getting this!
I'm eagerly waiting for Klonoa 3 to be announced, Klonoa really deserves another chance to shine :D
Love the Qbert reference, you should review that shizzle
Mark please complete this game, you will love it even more. Trust me.
That's how I first played it too! Was several years before I finally got my hands on the actual game. Best $40 on ebay I've ever spent.
40 crazy
Yep, pretty cheap compared to how much they go for these days 💰💰💰
@@JudasRapidFire u thinking about selling it?
@@BoomBang101 Lol don't even bother. Unless you got like a grand to buy the game 🤣
@@angrymobsters1599 ikr
Such a classic fun game! I still play this one from time to time.
CGR intro song needs a Grammy. It sounds so good.
This game was absolutely amazing, and still is to this day
Yes! The charme and atmosphere this game has is absolutely nuts even compared today!
5:06 That switch Klona turns on is from Bust-a-Move. Well played Namco.. well played.
😄 I completed this game weeks ago (on-stream) and it was a bit of a pain in the ass to do so but I'm such a fan of this series now.
I got Empire of Dreams after seeing the CGR review for it. It's so fun and cute. I want to get this one too.
It's at less than 1$ right now on the PSN store, buy it if you can!.
I wish i had bought this game back when this video was uploaded. I could have saved $350.
I was just playing on my ps classic that has all the games on a hard drive. I can't rationalize spending the money many games cost now. Not throwing shade just my personal.
I still have this and never knew it was rare until a couple years ago. Also have Tomba 2 but sadly not the first.
I loved this game as a kid. I need to find a copy.
This game was also released on the Wii with the simple title Klonoa.
Also Charlie Brown voices I will remember that. Love those voices have a cute charm
Oh man I remember that. I had both of these games.. Lunatea's Veil was awesome.
I still play this game every day!
Almost spilled my drink at the idea of volleyball Q-bert, hah.
5:59 "Pooonyaaaa"
Cutest death ever!
I think he say "nya" (literally "meow" in Japanese)
Klonoa is such an underrated serie.
One of my favorite games ever; extremely pricey now!!!
LOL! Again with the Pac-man hat! I would play this game!
You failed to mention the remake of this game that they made for the Wii. It is a very faithful remake. They really just upgraded the graphics and left the rest of the game alone.
What does he mean by it works on the Playstation 3? Is it on the PS One Classics section of PSN or do PSX discs work when inserted on PS3's?
One of my favourite game ever... Really.
YEWSSSSS ,one of my favorite games for ps1
feels really good seeing it around again. The wii version is very good too
Will it run on an emulator for Android 4.0 phones like the Samsung Galaxy SIII?
Why does it say copyright 2012 on the Classic Game Room splash image......
wow, me impresiona que antes tenias una coleccion de consolas normal, pero que hoy en dia ya tengas todo un museo, like
I've seen klonoa before but never knew what he was from ,maybe ill look into picking up a copy
Looking forward to see Klonoa and Dark Cloud :3 Oh the best demos that came with ps2 demo disc
I liked so much that game (in my opinion, one of the best platformer games ever for PS1)...
No, but there's a total remake released for Wii as physical discs. It's worth checking out.
This game, Tekken 3 and Crash Team Racing are my all time favourite PS games, and games in general. bless
Sabotage Elite You have a very similar liking to me. =) Mine are Tekken 3, CTR, Crash Bandicoot 2, Twisted Metal 2, and Klonoa.
Love this game, wish i stil had it
The wii remake is one of my favorite games on the system, I always tell people that they have to play it if they own a wii :3
Omg I played this so much in the day!
So is there gonna be a review about Klonoa 2?
wow this is a cool game. this is the review you said you would make mark, glad to see that you aren't one of those people on youtube who takes a million years to make a video they promised and claim they were "busy" awesome show mark
thanks, I had never heard of that before. Useful info. :D

I would love to see some knew Klonoa games, even if only on PSN/XBL/etc
will you review klonoa 2 for the ps2?
This was remade for the Wii. Great game.
Mr. Mohamed has a really good taste for videogames.
I only had a demo version of this game. It looked very nice.
One of these days you're gonna have to fly Mohammed out there to cohost an episode of the show... the guy is practically an honorary member of the CGR staff as it is.

this game was my childhood :)
This game looks brilliant !
oooh thanks for the heads up gotta get it now lol
Cool game. Cool review.
nice review
Ah memories.... oh wait, I'm playing this atm O:
(in Matt from Two Best Friends Play's voice) Klonoa is the last of the Playstation OG's.
3:35 the sound of "Axel" from Twisted metal 2
Klonoa 2 is the best game I've ever played, in my honest opinion.
I remember playing this in a demo that came with my copy of R4 great times!
Yeah, from the playstation magazine. Along with Tomba and I think they even released a Tomba 2 demo as well.
Is your hair graying or is it just the awesomeness?
Aww, Klonoa is so cute
This game is amazing! I also liked Klonoa 2 for PS2, and thought it was a better game.
Is that Maxwell from Scribblenauts you're freeing from the bubbles?
these games are magical
I have another game he might like to review. How do I send it to him?
Gotta say it looks good. Unfortunately I have more than enough games at this time.
They should port this to 3DS eShop.
I love it. I had the Wii version and got rid of it. It's getting a bit hard to find now.
Was it a demo disc or something?
Funny you should post this review because I just got the 2nd game on PS2 for 8 bucks a week or so ago and have been meaning to get this one but it's rather expensive on Amazon. Lol. Almost 40 bucks I think. I think I'll wait.
I believe there's a version of this on the Wii's Virtual Console
I really have no idea how it was/is in the US, but I'm pretty sure Klonoa has been pretty common here in Sweden.
I used to love this game...it sucks now but I like it...I think it's the crooked hat and that baller ass ring he has.
It's on the PSN too.
I didn't play this one but the sequel it was amazing at that time wish they would make some if the only made sonic like this game
It´s a bit like Pandemonium. Have you reviewed pandemonium? It´s a beautiful game.
I don't like the new layout but i now know my way around it. I just don't understand why they wouldn't save it for their next console.
It is also on PSN, if someone dont find the PSone disc.
A new Klonoa game for the 3ds would be awesome.
Apparently he's a catbit (cat/rabbit)
I think he's just a cat with big ears
never heard of this game or series or character before, dont remember it ever being marketed at least not in the uk dont even remember seeing it in any stores. shame looks decent platformer
Did Mohammed send you the Klonoa plushie ?
I love the remake on the Wii
Best reviewer ever
Because it's a great game series that doesn't get the attention and love it deserves.
Because it's amazing and you should replay it.
in the demo for ps2 he doesnt where the hat tho i miss this game
Give the remake a shot. It's basically exactly the same game, just with really nice graphics. Emulates perfectly on PC too, so crank that hi-def!
Half walrus half confused panda bear with big ears lol
2:08 lol
