    That film has got Oscar written all over it. It will win 3 Oscars minimum and be nominated for dozens of awards. This real story will make millions of new young fans. Elvis was a YOUTH MOVEMENT more than anything. And that energy turned right into the civil rights movement and changed the world. Austin Butler looks like a young Johnny Depp and he will nab one of those Oscars for sure. This trailer just made him a star.

    Baz Luhrmanns has invested a lot of power in the film and you can't forget that. Before he made the film.He asked many close friends and relatives how he was and that's what the film ended up being. I think it is wonderful that this legend is not forgotten and has made a film. God loves you do not forget. Peace and love. Best regards Bernd from Germany😎✌

    When I first saw the name Austin Butler, it kind of tripped me out for a second, cause Austin Butler is my girlfriend's brother's name. Then I remembered I already saw him in the movie Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. The movie looks pretty damn good. My grandma LOVED Elvis. She had a HUGE, old framed poster of him, up on her wall, from the time I was born, until she passed away in 2016. It stayed in the same spot for 26 years. It could actually still be there. Not sure if my grandpa took it down or not. We don't speak.

    The runtime as it stands now is 2h43min. I appreciate that through quick flashes it's so easy to tell where we are in Elvis's life. It also seems like Tom Hanks isn't going to shy away from playing Col Tom Parker as the bad guy that he was. When I first saw the trailer I read up about him. I didn't realize he came into America illegally and never became a US citizen. How did he get away with that given his high profile? They do appear to be jumping around a lot. If the runtime is already locked they must have everything laid out so it's easy to understand. I don't live in America so it's hard for me to appreciate how big his influence truly was. Since Baz and I share a home country I hope he's made the film accessible for those of us who may not know the whole story. And this looks like it's going to cover Elvis from where he came from to where he left us. I feel like this is going to be a special experience.

    Can't wait to see this movie. I've been an Elvis fan my entire life, just discovered your UA-cam channel I love it. Like you said there have been some very good and some downright horrible portrayals of elvis. You should do a top 10 list of best and worst portrayals of Elvis in movies and on tv. One of my favorites is Michael St Gerard playing Elvis in the 1990 series Elvis good rockin tonight.He looked so much like Elvis, unfortunately he didn't even attempt a southern accent. Had Elvis sounding like he was from Boston lol.

    Brand new Elvis book, Elvis: The Quest for an Oscar, great cover, 536 pages. You will not be able to put it down. It will convince you that Elvis deserves an Oscar for his contributions to the movie industry. Austin Butler will most definitely win the best actor Oscar for his outstanding performance. Elvis will finally be recognized for his contributions to the movie industry. The movie you must see…the book you must read….

  • @dougdickason
    @dougdickason 2 роки тому +27

    Great reaction. I saw a report that it is 2 hours and 43 minutes long, so I hope that is right. When I saw the teaser for the trailer, and I saw a clip.from 1956 Elvis and I saw DJ Fontana's drums I noticed they recreated his funky looking bass drum head perfectly, and knowing he cared enough to do that, when 99.9 percent of people would not have noticed, it gave me hope that he would care enough to get the story right too. Colonel. If anyone knows that story fully, and they care for Elvis, I don't see how anyone could support him after knowing what he did to Elvis. People make lots of excuses for him too, which I find odd, when they don't want Elvis to have excuses for his addiction for one, and well, for being under the Colonel.

    • @joannemurdock7899

      FYI - the 'funky look' is because the front head was made from unborn calf skin - the brown you see is actually hair or fur.

    • @dougdickason
      @dougdickason 2 роки тому

      @@mochs3869 wow, thanks
      .. you have solved my 30+ year question. I had wondered if it was a cowskin cover. Is it the actual head or a cover, and was that just DJ's thing or did all those bass drums use unborn calfskin?

    • @mochs3869
      @mochs3869 2 роки тому +1

      @@dougdickason It was the actual head..the hair hanging from it had a natural muffling effect. I don't know how common it was to have a head with hair on it back then but i do remember reading that the hides of either unborn or the youngest made the best drumheads. I am a drummer and Ronnie Tutt was the reason I ever started playing so I was looking for accuracy there as well...i even built a replica of his Blue Sparkle kit. I was a little disappointed that they seemed to go the lengths to get DJs kit right but Ronnie's aren't, especially the black Sonor kit...that is way off...it had 4 concert toms instead of the 3 shown, they weren't mounted in the left bass drum as shown and most glaringly the concert toms did not have chrome rings at the bottom edge...so big miss on that kit. I realize it's not a movie about that, but it stood out to me right away.

    • @dougdickason
      @dougdickason 2 роки тому +2

      @@mochs3869 I wonder why they Missed on Ronnie's. However, I was so shocked the first time, in the teaser for the trailer actually, when I saw DJ's bass head had been recreated that I almost became emotional, as crazy as that sounds. Man, thanks so much for all the information as I had wondered for so long about that head.

    There is a great vlog by a fellow UA-camr from the UK that ran down Elvis' childhood friend from his days in the Tupelo projects. The interview was great. He explained where they play, what they played, as well as the charismatic church services(a local church, not a travelling revival tent) that they went to. He explains how Elvis would really get into it and how the Holy Spirit took hold of him(similar to the revival tent scene). Sorry I don't have the link but it's definitely worth watching.
    Edit: That UA-camr turned out to be Baz Luhrman. And definitely not from the UK. LoL.

    The expression a women eyes never tell a lie. Your beautiful eyes tell everything about this trailer especially towards the end when (Tom Hanks) talks about being the same. If looks could kill.

    This looks and sounds wonderful, and the movie is sure to be a spectacle to behold, because Baz knows no other gear, but... but Elvis was arguably the best looking, most charismatic man to ever stand on a stage and perform, and there has never been an actor pretending to be him that even came close to capturing that truly iconic, once-in-a-century magic (the closest was Kurt Russel over four decades ago), so watching this obviously talented and good-looking young man proxy the "King" was... distracting. I kept seeing a substitute for the real thing and I couldn't get beyond that. Maybe watching the whole movie I will, but not here. And, yeah, Shadie, I see that Presley blood coursing through you as well. For me though, not as much in the looks as in your effortless ability to put it all out there, the joy as well as the pain. And I think the latter makes the former all the more impactful.

    *The Col. was the devil incarnate. I also have a distant cousin who was a performer. Kind of a 2-hitter, but big in the 50s Country scene. Ferlin Husky. I'll react to his biopic when someone does it. lol*

    As you say, there have been MANY attempts at making a "proper" Elvis film - and far too many were lame.
    Having this one told from the perspective of the Colonel..? is (IMHO) classic Baz Luhrmann; Why..? because one CANNOT tell the story of a Hero (and what else could you call a poor white boy from Tupelo, Mississippi but that?!) without The Villain? The Colonel was a grade "A" bastard, yes - which makes his POV of Elvis (not a saint, but an otherwise good man) the right narrator.
    The best view of Heaven, after all, is from the floor of Hell - Given the folk involved here..? Methinks Baz has (or rather WILL!) hit it out of the park.
    You ROCK, My Dear! Keep on Rockin'!!!

    I love to hear you talk … sure you have seen the movie by now … hope you loved it as much as I did … it certainly was made to explore the awful relationship between Elvis and the Col… I heard one of my friends say … as much as she loved Tom Hanks, she hated him by the end of the movie. It’s just so sad … my husband was an attorney and he said if only someone could have gotten through to Elvis, he probably could have gotten out of his contract, and who knows, he may have been able to live a much fuller and longer life. Keep up the good work.

    I didn't realize that you are distant relative to Elvis. I heard of him thru my parents. I listened to his music thru the years. Like you, I have seen other actors who portrayed your famous relative in movies. From good one with Kurt Russell in 1979's Elvis to some that I will not mentioned here. I think Austin Butler will kill it as your relative. I have seen him in another movie called Once Upon A Time in Hollywood with Leo Dicaprio and Brad Pitt played killer, "Tex" of Manson Family by Quentin Tarantino. I just subscribed to your channel. Like you, I believed real Tom Parker took advantage of Elvis. I think his dealings with Elvis caused your relative to be addicted to drugs. I believed if another manager took over of Elvis properly, Elvis would still be alive today at the age of 87.
