It's funny that you would say that the banana cake is what a Twinkie dreams of being. The original Twinkies were banana creme filled! They had to swap away from banana flavoring due to rationing in WWII.
My mother is from Sapporo Hokkaido and the Omiyage (gift) to get in that region is 100% "Shiroi Koibito", It's a thick white or milk chocolate slice in between two crunchy thin sweet wafers, and honestly it's one of my absolute favorite snacks in the world, especially the white chocolate one...if you ever do a video like this again, you must include them, you will love them...fun fact, we have a house right next to the factory, well almost...
I was waiting for Tokyo Banana and I wasn’t disappointed. In my last Tokyo trip, half of my luggage were all Tokyo Banana Omiyage as that’s the most requested take home gift from my co-workers. 😝
That last one is adorable, it looks like a cross between a peep and a pear!!😍😂 They actually all look amazing. Thank you as always for sharing such unusual and unique experiences with us, Emmy. Cheers
Just realized I’ve been watching your channel for 7 years.. that means I’ve been watching you since I was 17 🥲 The first video I watched of yours what the spaghetti o jello mold recipe ❤ Also I’m craving a video filmed from inside your house again like a few years ago. Love your channel so much!! Thank you for all you do ❤
All that candy: SUGAR RUSH!! You're right, Emmy. The sheer, almost anally-retentive attention to detail sets just about anything Japanese apart from its counterparts in other countries. The sticker holding that "egg" didn't need to be painted like a cut hardboiled egg, but making it so just adds so much to it.
I loved your reaction to each treat as much as the treats themselves 💖 Each treat was so well presented; I'd be incredibly happy gifting these and getting these. I think the otter was my favourite, but then I Iove coffee!
i saw a japanese cookie factory tour that made these sorts of sweets. the care that goes into the process is really admirable. great part of japanese culture
Fun fact.. the "artificial" banana was the flavor of the previous dominant species of banana, the Gran Michel. But it became blighted and effectively wiped out. Some do still exist but not in an y commercial capacity. The seedling I had died immediately.
Honestly, I'm not glad a whole cultivar of bananas was wiped out, but I am glad that we have Cavendish now. I love Cavendish, I hate the taste of gros michel.
Hey lovely- that yolk was incredible! I once had a hot fudge burger at a restaurant and it was pretty phenomenal!! You should try a Cap’n Crunch burger. Those are the most precious chicks- perfect Easter treat. 100 years wow!!! Thursdays and Saturdays are always my favorite days- thanks to you!!! ❤❤❤
So that's where the look of peeps came from, they must have traveled to Japan. Thanks for the his history of bringing back treats from your travels,. Japanese knows the art of packaging and presentation.
I read that Laffy Taffy was first made when Gros Michel instead of the Cavendish was the banana du jour so that was the banana flavour they used to flavour their banana sweets back then.
The flavor used for banana in the US , is the same chemical used for pear flavor in the UK. Generic sweet fruit flavor, I can't remember the name though.
Hi Emmymade. I really love your homemade videos! Although it’s just you and your camera in your house, it feels very welcoming and warm! Keep making these amazing homemade videos in your kitchen! I feel like a guest.
I looooove Hiyoko! I think Hakata Torimon also from Fukuoka is also really good! One more thing I recently discovered was Mitsuemon from Oita when I went to Yufuin a week ago. Its a sweet potato-shaped tiny cake that is mind-blowingly good, it really tastes like sweet potato, even more so than a real sweet potato.
If you are listening, going to Tokyo, and gluten-free, there are gluten-free Tokyo Bananas at Haneda airport (possibly other places) but you have to ask. Not all places will have them.
I had two of these omiyage. The corn one and the Tokyo banana. When we went to Tokyo banana, they were celebrating the birth of the panda around christmas 2016 or was it 2017? So yummy! I love seeing all the omiyage when traveling around in the train stations! Thank you for sharing these cute treats!
I had the chance of trying Tokyo Banana a few times. they are really tasty and i need to go to Japan and try the special flavours too. Have a great week everyone
Hello from Texas ! I love all things Japanese! Where did you find these treats at that price. Amazon only has half and is very expensive ! Thank you for sharing this info with us ! Always looking forward to your next video !!
Oh I have tried the cheese chocolate burger in Sydney Australia where I live. This Cafe place called Hong Kong Cafe they have something similar they call it pineapple bun with butter. You can have it sweet or savoury I had mine like hamburger it is full size
This whole video is just precious. Not only the individual omiyage but Emmy's excitement about each one is even more precious. 😂
“It’s just myself getting stuff for myself “ I really felt that 😂😂😂 ❤❤❤
I love how Emmy gushed about how cute the little otter was and then she ate him 😂😂😂!
It's funny that you would say that the banana cake is what a Twinkie dreams of being. The original Twinkies were banana creme filled! They had to swap away from banana flavoring due to rationing in WWII.
do you think they got the original idea from a Japanese sweet?
@@therealJamieJoy The one featured here didn't come around until 1991, so it may be the other way around.
I love the banana Twinkies. Unfortunately you can't really find them in the stores anymore. Wish they would put them back in the stores.
@@Aperson156 ahhh, I see
@@shannondore they bring them back from time to time promotionally

White milk chocolate of Rokka-tei is best of all.
The manju somehow managed to surpass peeps in cuteness🤯🥰

Thanks for doing this. I'm absolutely fascinated by gift giving traditions across cultures, and these are some I'd never experience otherwise.
19:12 this is the cutest paaart 😍 loved how these aren't just tasting, its experiencing ❤
I love learning little cultural traditions involving food gifts!
Hope you had some nice Japanese green tea as a palate cleanser in this episode. Wonderful episode, thank you Emmy!
People the egg pudding is really good! you can’t take it home but do have it while you’re here❤
In my family (Irish) we very much expect food from someone’s travels to be presented when they get back, doesn’t go down well if they forget 😂
🤣
Omiyage has similar concept in the Philippines called Pasalubong, I always found souvenir a loose translation 🤭 learned something new today ❤️
my day always gets better when i see that emmy video notification!!!
I loved your reaction to each treat as much as the treats themselves 💖

These were all so darn cute! The packaging/presentation would definitely make them special gifts and those cakes were all adorable!

Thank you, Emmy!
I loved learning about “omiyage”. I did some more reading about it, too, and found it fascinating.
Loved watching this and I really did learn something!! Emmy you rock!!

I thought the otter cake was the cutest then you opened the little chick at the end. Oh my goodness!! That little guy was way too cute to eat.😊
YES!!! I've purchased Tokyo Banana and other Japanese desserts online for a few years! 😚😚 Love all of these and the Butter Raisin sandwich cookies!

I read that Laffy Taffy was first made when Gros Michel instead of the Cavendish was the banana du jour so that was the banana flavour they used to flavour their banana sweets back then.
I think that's why banana flavored candies really don't taste like fresh bananas we eat today.

That is a myth that has been debunked. It's just synthetic flavor that kinda tasted banana-like

Well these were just beautiful, little tastes to bring back from a trip. However I would have to order them for myself.
So very interesting Emmy. 🤗
Ha awesome! I’m so glad this channel popped back up in my feed, she is great! 👍
Loved your excitement and reactions it was so fun to watch. ❤
my favorite local coffee place has a blended coffee drink with a banana in it, love it!
I love the little spoon in the custard. I wish more foods would include a little spoon like that, like yogurt.
When I was in Tokyo I had some of the Tokyo banana and they were absolutely delicious!! I remember bringing some home and sharing them with friends 🥹
13:09 you know it's good when Emmy starts singing!
Thank you for sharing sweets from Tokyo Japan.
Just what I needed today!! Yay!
this looked like so much fun!!!!!
Beautifully shared!
Emmy have you ever heard of pinecone jam? Never heard of it until today. It literally had mini pinecones in jam. Thoughts?
I loved this video! My favourite part was the baby chick cakes. :) Thank you Emmy!
omiyage is such a lovely idea
Aweeegh! - Hiyoko manju !! I grew up eating those all the time near Fukuoka. Natsukashii !! So nostalgic!
Oh the memories! I remember getting the hyokos as omiyage a long time ago.
They say that you learn something new every day
Super cute and fun!! wish i could try some of those!

I looove black sesame. I’m from Taiwan and remember a dessert soup made of black sesame. ❤
In Argentina we have the same thing! When we travel we have to bring back souvenirs to the people that we care ♥

When you opened the chick one, I heard birds! (I think in my environment, but, it could have been the video,)
Last month a lady from my choir brought an enormous pile of pineapple cakes (from Taiwan), and other assorted treats from her trip.
