Dear friends, Hogarth is one of the best singers we've heard. See how he gets emotional at the end of the song. We thank you for having the opportunity to hear Marillion playing this music we love so much. Long live Steve Hogarth and Marillion!
Honestly, I can't stop listening to this version. Steve does it with with such emotion that gets to me. I think this is the best version I've ever heard of script. Love Marillion. I hope to see you guys someday! Love from Argentina
Mr Hogarth did this song justice in the way he performed it, musically its Marillion and H hit the notes and keys to make us all embrace this version, round of applause for the band. 👏🏻
Thats got to be a hard song to sing, very emotional performance particularly towards the end. You can feel his heart breaking and see his despair. Great performance. Thank you for posting.
After watching this all I can say is OUTSTANDING !!! I have seen recent videos of Fish trying to do this and he has a very hard time with the old songs as Peter cannot and will not do old Genesis songs because they just don't have the range anymore so hearing H doing this with such passion and hitting the notes necessary to make the song work is magic to me. People need to stop bashing H for doing the old songs. He does an incredible job and lets us hear what we love :)
Why do people keep talking about Fish and h. Let's be thankful that Marillion are still going and getter better with every album. I love the Fish stuff and I love the h stuff. Stop comparing and just enjoy the greatest band in the world.
I know it's been nearly 30 years... I wish people who only like Fish' stuff would just not watch h... I mean I tjink Fish solo career was shite... so I didn't watch it or buy albums after internal exile.
This is one of the best ive seen of marillion in a long time, fish was the best in the 80s. Come on guys, marillion with Hogarth is still great. And Hogarth is into the music, you can see it, wonderfull to look.
I really wasn't expecting this to be as amazing as it was ! I was watching Recital Of The Script and those lumpy, plodding drums were really getting to me ( I owned it on VHS and then on DVD before anybody says anything :) So I searched for another live version and found this, beautiful! I love the way Hogarth makes it his own with a completely different feel with the timing of the lyrics.
For one more time, this performance shows that Marillion music is more than melodies and words. It includes feeling excess which needs a great frontman like H. to carry this out. I follow the band since 1983. Fish has done a brilliant job, he gave us a great legacy and we thank him for that. Hogarth did something different, he widened and unlocked the band's music space giving us The Season's End. Up to this day, Marillion is the most inspired progressive band in my opinion. I really cried some years ago when I saw Fish performing live the great Lavender - a great primitive feeling. But now, 2018, the band is something else, something more, something bigger than Fish. In this video, H. explodes his heart out.
Steve and Fish are both geniuses, each with its unique style. Marillion all together, one of the best bands ever, it is still a mystery why it hasn't reached the recognition it deserves world wide...
Chris Squire said Marillion was his favorite band in an interview during the Big Generator album tour. He also said you could still have hit albums playing progressive rock music.
@@johnwatson13 I actually enjoy the Fish vs. h debate, and you are correct. It is not within Hogarth to project venom, and how Fish and h put together songs is somehow essentially different in pace and tone. I can't really put a finger on it. They are just two artists with very different personalities, and the difference comes across quite clearly in their music. Not everybody is equipped to simply say "they are both great and I love all the music of Marillion".
Fish had cancer in the throat, changed his voice and capabilities. Both Fish and Hogarth are still waaaay better than any modern band or singer. I just like Fish era compositions and solo career better than Hogarth era. Not that Hogarth's work is terrible, it's great stuff also. I just like Fish suits my personal taste better, but I listen to both. Greetings from Brazil
I saw Marillion with Fish on Fugazi, Reel to Real & Misplaced Childhood tours in the 80's and I think H is absolutely brilliant more than does the song justice.
H really drives this song home. I still can’t stop watching the videos of him singing Fish songs because he can really put a lot of emotion and power into them!
Hogarth is untochable! ♥ There's nothing comparable with him. A Legend with the Worlds best band. And a legend in every listening heart. The one and only love! Being rich as a Marillionaire!♥
...and 5 years after ( it is funny to read your own past comments), my mind finally opened. HOWARTH IS AWESOME and life is marvellous to give me this second chance and to let me recover all these "unknown for me" years of Marillion.
He does at all the gigs I've been to he always say something akin to wr should thank a certain person for the wonderful songs we can song because of him
Amo Marillion e o Hogarth faz parte disso!!!
What a magnificent performance. Thank you Marillion for still playing this song after so many years. It's obvious that you know how much nostalgia it arouses in your longtime fans. It might not be as complex as your current stuff (and may even sound juvenile in places), but it sure tugs at the heartstrings. And a big thanks to Steve Hogarth for putting out so much on a song that preceded his time with the band. Steve's interpretation adds a whole palette of new colours (starting at 4:56).
Best lyrics in the world are written by Marillion, with Fish and with Steve. Saw them in 87 in Rotterdam, still with Fish, again in 89 Utrecht and in Tilburg, a few years ago. Respect that they are still touring the globe!!!
Was a brilliant evening. Marillion were brilliant as usual. Down near the front, stage centre with a Frost* shirt on, singing my heart out! The next night when Brave was played was stunning.

Thanks to FISH for writing these beautiful songs. The first 4 Fish era albums are masterpieces H is good too. Best of both the worlds as they put it.

Only just discovered this. Definitely one to bookmark for use when someone says “H doesn’t take the Fish era songs seriously”.
This actually DID bring tears to my eyes. The script freaking works!!!
H does an amazing job on this one!

Because Fish WAS Marillion...end of
People who stopped listening missed out on Brave and Marbles (their two best albums along with the Fish albums)

IMO this is an excellent, emotional performance of a classic song
sounds like a bloke in a pub
Thank so much Mr. Hogarth
Quality performance from Mr H. Justice is served to this classic tune!
Sang with the biggest respect!
Marillion ……. Hogarth ……. Fish. ❤
i'm a old styled marillion fan...but this is the best ever performed script for a yester's tear..i've ever heard since 1985
Can't wait for the Marillion Weekend in Montreal July 2022. See you there!!!
Absolutely brilliant interpretation of a masterpiece! Bravo!

h does a magnificant job of this, truly wonderful, the last 3 minutes are exceptional. Not a massive surprise though, all of his singing is superb!
I do agree James

Iam not surprised. There a lot of good bands out there who love them ..
Thinking of the show 30 years ago at the last chance New York. They killed it that night as they always do. Love all of it . Thx guys , rock on!
A difficult song to cover. h does it justice. Well done.
+Evil Giraffe More than justice IMO, he really wrenches the emotion out of every line on this one.
+AndE667 LOL. Apologies for the understatement. Agreed, this is a beautiful performance.
