    A though for your sprayer line that you "never use" but want to keeo it from freezing. If you antifreeze the system, then just pump water and use it as you normally will. The antifreeze will be stuck at the "dead end"...
    I have a outdoor shower, i dont use it at all, but when i antifreeze my trailer once a year (or once every two years! Depending on use). That shower end ALWAYS still has antifreeze in it, and i have to wait for it to drain untill i get fresh water. Meaning it will never freeze as long as i dont use it after antifreezing the system! Even if im using water for my sinks, toilet, etc! Because thats seperate water lines!

    I only watched this because I was trying to figure out how to keep water in it over winter. I wouldn't trust just letting the pressure out of lines. Despite the durability of pex. Too many, variables all the water goes to low points and one elbow cracking and your hosed. I know an RV guy who has to repair broken pipes too many times to trust it. Also I have too be in areas for work that might get well below 5 degrees. But you gave me the idea of blowing the lines with air every time I thought it was going to get below freezing. It's easy to do and doesn't take long. That's the approach I am going to take. Simple portable air pump with right connection to make it super easy. I might even hook it up permanently so it's a matter of turning on the pump and then blowing out each line. Thank you for the idea. And thanks for the battery recommendation.

      Only thing I can say, is water will ONLY expand and burst a pipe when it has no where to go... The faucets on the outside of your house freeze, we don't antifreez or drain them.. the water inside the house is warm, so it can't expand and blow up the pipe
      Same as if you have a half full pipe. The water will freeze, and expand UP the pipe, but won't just magically expand sideways and blow the pex up. That's why it you blow them out, it allows space for the water to expand. Air compressors much better then water/ice
      Air will never reach high enough pressure to blow up your line, simply by ice pushing on it lol....

    Lightbulbs have been keeping pump houses from freezing forever. My Aunt had a pump house on a farm in Central Saskatchewan that would get down to -40 below regularly in the winter. They work great.

      So is that -40c or -40f?
      I know people who used to put the light bulb under the hood of the car when the block heater would die or if the car didn't have one.

    One thing I would add is to keep your water heater turned on. My first rig had a busted water heater tank from freezing.

      I’m not sure what happened as it was before I bought it. Just remember that the outside wall of that water heater is exposed. So for me, I’d rather use a little propane at night to be safe

    I’ve watch probably 50 videos trying to find out how long the batteries and propane would last while boondocking in cold weather. This is the only video I’ve found actually telling me what to expect! Thank you for making this! You all have a beautiful family and I truly wish you all the best. I have a trip coming up that is going to require a little cold exposure and I’ve had trouble finding enough info to get me through. I love that part of the country. Lived in the San Luis valley and Northern NM for a bit. I saw your video about the Nash trailer and winter RVing. I have a Artic Fox 25r that I use a couple days a week year round. Plugged into power so I can run a space heater and I have propane heat thermostatically controlled if power goes out. I really like the thermostatic plug/lightbulb idea also. What's the coldest you have done in a travel trailer? Im hoping the space heaters actually keep it livable.

    • @AdventureEndeavor
      @AdventureEndeavor  3 місяці тому

      I think this trip was the coldest about 18° for four or five nights straight

  • @stanburk7392
    @stanburk7392 2 роки тому +1

    I personally hate the colds but being in Canada it's here every year. I've filed several complaints but so far no results.
    Steps we are taking to deal with it for next year so we can boondock year round.
    1.Taking out the electric fireplace and putting in a zero clearance pellet insert. The space will be prepped before the insert goes in for added fire protection.
    2. there is flaring all around our trailer that hangs down about 10 inches. I will insulate this space and put tin under it to protect the insulation.
    3. venting so the heat will get to the areas underneath to keep the water from freezing.
    4. Increasing our solar capacity to 900 watts Limited roof space with all the other things up there. might be able to increase that a bit with a couple of portable ones I can put out when parked. Space being the issue.
    5, lithium batteries. My math so far and I am sure it will have to be redone again is 1,200 amp hours will be more than enough.

    The spray line for the black tank should be easy to protect. Get an adapter and blow some air through it. That will clear the water. As long as you don't put water back in it everything will be fine.

    I'd love to know your thoughts on this camper vs your Nash in winter conditions. I'm looking to get an RV soon that can specifically handle cold weather. The ones that pop up the most are Northwood, Lance, and Grand Design. Ive watched your video about camping in the nash in cold weather and it sounds like that one held up way better in the cold conditions. Is that just my perception or did you find the Nash to be able to hald the cold better as well?

    • @AdventureEndeavor
      @AdventureEndeavor  Рік тому +2

    Ok real question - I am winterized in my Momentum 25G right now but plan on taking it to a local state park today. There is only one night where it gets below freezing, possibly the upper 20's at night. Otherwise it's above freezing for the next 10+ days. You think I'm ok just using the fresh holding tanks? Make sure I have propane that night and I think we ought to be ok...

Do you guys have the Arctic package in your camper and it seems like you have 23°. Your plumbing is not freezing but you’re also not pumping the water through the pump and how often you guys go camping in the winter and what are some of the great chips that you can give.

      @@AdventureEndeavorwow, that's a lot of solar. I feel like we aren't building enough into our setup, but, my cousin, who does this full-time, is certain 600W is going to be enough to charge in our area, and I trust him. We will also have a generator and a DC-DC charger with an inverter as well. Oh and 4 12v batteries I believe are in the build as well.
