Altered Carbon is my favorite Netflix series, right next to Daredevil. It’s a beautiful crafted cyberpunk, sci fi series and I highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t already
Poe has been my favorite character from the show, I thought it was amazing, I also love how Altered Carbon showed that love is utmost regardless of what sleeve was used
This seriously reminded me of elements from First Wave, Eve Online and BSG. Given the costs of a organ transplant a years salary for a new body/resurrection actually sounds incredibly reasonable, especially when one considers a “sleeve” is an entire body and not a single organ, so even if you take inflation into account still a reasonable price. (Note: just a transplant patient putting his two cents in on the story content, always enjoy these videos Film Comics!)
I watched the show also, but i was under the impression it could take a lifetime to buy a new sleeve, better the sleeve the more it will cost ya. I'f any of them could be bought for 1 years salary it would prolly be like that little girl at the start who got the old ladys sleeve.
IndividualGhost that’s kinda how it works with Transplant organs, I don’t know who my organ came from, I don’t know what race, gender, age (although this one is a little bit more tightly controlled as I understand it, and that’s for practical purposes, you can’t put a 30-year-old kidney into a seven-year-old receiver and vice versa), etc (although that information is kept somewhere, but neither I nor the donors family can access it), the deciding factors is does the donor match the recipient tissue wise ang how close is the match (this is why extremely close family members are able to selflessly donate an organ like a kidney or part of the liver and the receiver may not need to go on immunosuppressants). I have to admit, considering that we have these safeguards now, I’m a little Irked that they’re thrown out for sake of the story but that’s due to my perspective. Given the rather large list of mental issues that occur from improper sleeving, I’m a bit surprised that there aren’t actually safeguards to assure at least proper gender and age. Given how common place this is supposed to be as part of the human condition, you would think that these basic requirements would be met, especially considering there doesn’t seem to be a expiration date that has to be met in terms of moving from one sleeve to the next, the idea that you get whatever is in storage falls apart (at the very least, you have time to wait until the proper age, gender and ethnicity becomes available). I think ghost in the shell probably hit it more accurately in terms of what the attitude would be, that you would have those and the full spectrum ranging from those who just had their brain cyberized, those Who went full body prosthetic, those who insisted that the external appearance matched their original body and those who didn’t give a shit (texan in a box).
I agree, Ghost in the shell hit the nail on the head. this although being a fun story and show. it overlooked alot of things and just plain ignored alot of others.
Sorry, the 2nd part was refering to altered carbon. I've got nothing but praise for ghost in the shell and enjoyed altered carbon alot and hope they do a 2nd season
Jesus Christ I want an AI hotel... seriously Poe was so cool, everything about him was amazing from his loyalty to his suave personality, seriously the coolest TV show character I have ever seen.
Kadie Rose I am counting on that. And omfg Samir was just the best. A seriously genuine nice guy. It seems altered carbon kills off all of their most loyal characters!
I really like this series, i think it's a really interesting take on human life and technology. But there are also many themes portrayed in it. Like how loyalty works, I mean Kovacs had to choose and his people around him too, like the robot that runs the hotel. He was so extremely loyal despite multiple times that we think he will betray Kovacs.
In the books, Poe's Shot gun is a very illegal and rare laser shot gun. The tv series did not get into the details of the 3 kinds of guns. Charged guns, basically regular guns with mini computers, energy power supply to shoot bullets in a vacuum, and the ability to only shoot when the real owner pulls the trigger. Magnetic/ rail guns, a lot more expensive guns that can reuse amno or use most materials in the world as amno. Laser guns, which everyone has until people started to get Stacks. The only type of gun that can destroy the body and stacks at the same time. In the books Poe's shot gun is one of the 5 laser guns left. Kovacs get the gun at the end of the first book. The biggest issue with the gun is that it has unlimited amno, ironically doesn't overheat, passes through most material detecters, has no user interface, is extremely hard to destroy, and believed to be destroyed. If there is a season 2 in the future, that shot gun needs to be there because it has many different importances in the 5 books.
This is one of the few Book adaptations that turned out absolutely amazing!!! I just finished the book and while there were big changes in the Tv series. it can stand on its own and deserves a viewing! I personally LOVED the virtual torture scene in episode 4 with Joel Kinnaman and Tahmoh Penikett. both played their roles beautifully. Joel Kinnaman delivery of his line "Someone you Truly, Should not have FUCKED WITH." And then walking the two techs through, how colossally they had Fucked up allowing him to be tortured in this way. Was absolutely EPIC, proceeding the torture clinic massacre!
I love the novel, it's a fresh idea on how to tackle the topic of immortality and its consequences. Really excited about the show, I saw it with my wife and it was great but the only problem we had with the show is that Officer Kristin Ortega, for some reason my wife and I are not really fond of her in every scene she is (minus the nude scene in my part 😉). It feels so over the top performance.
Altered Carbon has that very Shadowrun Returns feel to you, that cyberpunk feeling, it also has a smiliar premise. Friend got fragged and he wants to know who and why, and he sends you a black box of sorts to feel you in on his last will. The asethic of the location is brilliantly well thought out. Has a hella good plot too. Can't wait for more. Great video.
Loved this series! Poe was awesome, and just as gothic as his namesake. The show's dark tone, bleak cyberpunk dystopia, and bladerunner-esq art direction was gorgeous. I hope to see more Altered Carbon in the future
This was my favourite television series of recent years! It kinda topped GoT's for me it was that good! I was a fan of the hotel AI, he was great! I hope the series returns. Great post, I enjoyed listening to your thoughts!
Imagine waking up realizing you are the past version of future you that's still alive. Imagine meeting a decades younger version of you. That said we loose consciousness every time we go into a deep sleep. Or are under anesthetics or in a coma. We are just machines. How do you know you are the same person that went to sleep the night before?
Yes, I could only tolerate about 10 mins of the 2nd season. Original character was funny, yet likeable. Replacement was unlikable and not a good pretender.
then excercise your freedom of choice and only watch the ones you like and quit bitching. Entitled fuckers always think everyone else should serve and bow to their pleasure. Fuckwad!
Then why waste your time replying to me? Hmmm? You just made it that serious. Go toke on some more reefer in your parent's basement and enjoy your 35th birthday already. BTW - The world called and says stay where you are because you're not invited.
H2Mass it really is a hit or miss with some of them carbon has potential to keep going I felt season one felt short few episodes for a second season build up
I always thought you were saying "its Me At Hugh with film comics explained". In my head I thought your name was Matthew or something. Glad I now know it is Niyat. Great content chief, keep up the good work.
Thank you for taking the time to explore this great series. Anyone into mature sci-fi cyberpunk should give this show a chance. I can't wait for the next season if there will be one.
Although cortical stacks are currently considered a product of science fiction, I wonder whether some day they might become an aspect of reality! Wow, great concept! ❤
Love this series especially Edgar Poe. I hope it’s renewed with Joel as Takeshi again and not someone else. Because of the “sleeves” they could change up the actors every season. I hope you do another video on this show.
Bat Pool even an idea of double sleeving and putting stacks on ice gave me the reason to question how much our mind values(and not the body). But questions about soul, spirit, afterlife?! Damn, you don't need a freaking time machine in this universe if you haven't figured out what to do in this current situation yet!)
Yezzzzz i love this!! I want more of this tv show.. i re watched it 3 times lol, its the perfect futuristic unviverse! :D quiz time! What would happen if you inserted a stack into a two headed lizard/animal?
I've watched the show, but I wasn't aware that it was based on a novel, now it's making me want to go out and find the novel of "Altered Carbon"and read it to see how different it is from the series
I feel like in the future when we have this technology a sleeve wouldn't be that hard to make it would just be a little expensive like a bike or something
at Brian I - ah i get you, i finally understand this comment after looking at it for so many months since 2019, you said " pedantic tendencies" iv translated it its latin, Pedantic (clinical English) , in my dialect we say "Peda-ic " (latin )/ " Child-like tendencies" (common English)" you book readers must really be on hairs about the changes. me i cant live with out the hero saying "get your ass to (planet) Mars" but in the book the colony was Australia and connected to the mother country through a tunnel system dug out.. but in the cinematic version they get there on a shuttel to mars took a few months to get there and you stay in your seat the whole way only getting up to go to the bath room. and sleep , and take the window seat or the isle seat. Qaud took the WINDOW SEAT ON ALL THE LINES EVEN THE RAIL ROAD ON MARS. but you book readers are on the other side you cant picture quad having to go to mars and instead not reach australia in a futureistic tunnel that Elon Musk helped build with his go fund me or what ever. but me i see elon musk making the space hotels and the space airplanes to get quads ass to mars as his other self hauser told him to do. so you book readers must be in stich's over the changes in a bad way though. me i cant live with out going to the colony at mars instead of the colony of Australia. ever since australia ratified the westminster agreement of 1931 in 1949 Australia has been a separte independent country. it might be refered to as the former colony, but i cant picture it in my head as the futre colony like Burn cycle game for the cdi or PC or trinity universe or book version of Total recall say it is. if the war on terrorism or a civil war happens in america or even another ice age, i do see a rise in immigration from Western Europe and North America to Australia. id see new communities forming in the Outback and the eventual fight for the aborigines to get the immigrants to leave, which was the war. in the game either trinity or burn cycle the aborigines tried to destroy the internet in 2063, but in the game trinity the PRC chinese destroyed the internet in 2061. so i thought this was similer to Nostradamus 2.63 where the comet will return / run which is 2061, last time it came it was 1986 i was 5 going on 6. i just cant picture australia being the colony it has to be Mars. like in the first total recall movie not the book versin which is the second movie.
I looked up the latest news on this show and it was that the showrunner Laeta Kalogritis is working on a live action anime adaptation.... Of Sword Art Online...
Great video again, I wasn't sure if I was going to watch this but now I will after seeing this. Could you look at V for Vendetta? One of my favourite films and I think it's got a great back story, could be an interesting video
My issue with downloading consciousness, is that its always a replica and not an transfer. The initial person is not granted immortality, his clone is.
I hope Netflix goes on to do a sequel going along with the second book as well, though the actor that played Kovacs left the show and he was one of the high points for me throughout the run of the show.
One of the greatest shows on Netflix I’ll throw hands with anyone who disagrees
Joshua Truong amen brotha
Second season is shit

Just finished this entire series both 1st & 2nd season. What's the next best series on Netflix?
Altered Carbon is my favorite Netflix series, right next to Daredevil. It’s a beautiful crafted cyberpunk, sci fi series and I highly recommend you check it out if you haven’t already
When I first heard about this show, I thought is was a movie. I stated watching it and ended up watching the whole series in one weekend
Same here
Poe has been my favorite character from the show, I thought it was amazing, I also love how Altered Carbon showed that love is utmost regardless of what sleeve was used
This seriously reminded me of elements from First Wave, Eve Online and BSG.

IndividualGhost The second half of your sentence, do you mean ghost in the shell still or altered carbon?
Sorry, the 2nd part was refering to altered carbon. I've got nothing but praise for ghost in the shell and enjoyed altered carbon alot and hope they do a 2nd season
Sleeves technology is cool but still Poe was the best^^
Jesus Christ I want an AI hotel... seriously Poe was so cool, everything about him was amazing from his loyalty to his suave personality, seriously the coolest TV show character I have ever seen.
Drokk yeah!
He and Samir were my two favorite characters. I was devastated by both deaths and I kept hoping Poe was going to somehow be saved.
Kadie Rose I am counting on that. And omfg Samir was just the best. A seriously genuine nice guy. It seems altered carbon kills off all of their most loyal characters!
Daimon X Poe was my boy and seeing him go out like that hurt me
That actor, while not necessarily the most skilled, embodies everything I love in a protagonist.
NEED to see it again - so cool. Thanks for sharing
I was thinking this morning about how you should cover this great series, and here a video is! :O
I was hoping you’d cover this series! With you around, I can devote more of my limited “brain power” to other tasks. Cheers and great vid!
awesome dude! lol
Poe's not a robot. He's an AI.
Ah yes, an AI, apologies. But yes, Poe is an amazing character. I think he's more interesting than that black guy whose daughter is mentally broken.
Yes, Poe was hard-coded to protect paying guests of his hotel.
In the books, Poe's Shot gun is a very illegal and rare laser shot gun.

Dude I finished this series like five hours ago! Whooooooa!
Probably no reason to be paranoid here....
what no way? thats awesome :)
Yeah! I let my father watch it first. When he tells me something is anything other than 'alright' it means it must be really good
It's cool to see you explore this - thanks for another awesome video Niyat!
I've gotta find a way to climb out of this UA-cam ditch soon
It's like the Hotel California. You're always welcome to visit but you can never leave. Muahhaha! 😉
but YT isn't really a ditch, more like a star destroyer tech trench.....
aww frakk, it's a ditch......pfft
Your channel is growing really fast

Mannnnnnnn this was such a good ass show
Thank u for explaining this Nyad
I thoroughly enjoyed this series and your video on stacks and sleeves thank you for such great content 😊
Thanks Jaime :)
Altered Carbon was a really good show. I was impressed for it being just a Netflix show.
This was my favourite television series of recent years! It kinda topped GoT's for me it was that good! I was a fan of the hotel AI, he was great! I hope the series returns.
Great post, I enjoyed listening to your thoughts!
Great video i was hoping you would cover this, i loved the show cant wait for the second season

Great video. This was an amazing series and I can't wait for season 2.
Season 1 was amazing, season 2 was a slight step-down, but also kept me wanting to know more. I wish there'd be another season.
Great work once again My friend Thank you for putting in all the hard work for theses videos 👍🤘 Film comics explained 4 life Lol
Thanks dude :)
It is my Honor to have you say that so Thank you man an keep it up.
Imagine waking up realizing you are the past version of future you that's still alive. Imagine meeting a decades younger version of you. That said we loose consciousness every time we go into a deep sleep. Or are under anesthetics or in a coma. We are just machines. I think this show was awesome! They did such a great job with the materials they were given and they cast perfectly.
How could they ruin such a masterpiece with season 2?!? 😔
Yes, I could only tolerate about 10 mins of the 2nd season. Original character was funny, yet likeable. Replacement was unlikable and not a good pretender.
This sounds like The 6th day but with extra steps :D
Fantastic video 👏 Awesome to see another Aussie getting some YT lovin’ 🇦🇺👍💕
Excellent content as always, Saw Altered Carbon a few months back and it was awesome!!
I wouldn't have even thought of asking for this... But so glad someone did😁
Hmm... Only some Netflix shows are good
H2Mass most of them are, very rarely they’re bad shows
then excercise your freedom of choice and only watch the ones you like and quit bitching. Entitled fuckers always think everyone else should serve and bow to their pleasure. Fuckwad!
chill KD. it's not that serious.

Thanks Jonathan!
Love this show. Hope a second season gets made.
After now 3 years since I saw the first episode, it is still my favorite series!
I just watched every episode in one sitting and oh my fucking GOD what a trip. This show is incredible.
Hello notification squad again ❤️ and thank you for uploading so much ☺️
The first season was so good, the second one honestly not so much. The main character and his drug backpack had great acting and great story!
This show was waaaaay ahead of it's time. I'm glad we got the chance to witness it in this day and age.
I always thought you were saying "its Me At Hugh with film comics explained". In my head I thought your name was Matthew or something. Glad I now know it is Niyat. Great content chief, keep up the good work.
Thanks Boni!
I watched this Netflix show. It was amazing. It's very deep and complex. With amazing fight scenes.
Man I loved this show, just the dusty, neon color scheme got me hard af
This show blew my mind. Imagine the possibilities if this tech existed
Thank you for taking the time to explore this great series. Anyone into mature sci-fi cyberpunk should give this show a chance. I can't wait for the next season if there will be one.
It's a good series, I enjoyed it even though the ending wasn't really that nice.
Underated show. The concepts are so unique
This show is definitely in my top 3 next to Battlestar Galactica & The Expanse. Looking forward to more videos about Altered Carbon series :)
Do you think you could maybe take a look at the Cube movies? It's not very well known but the concept of a high tech cube of death is pretty sweet
yep its on the list :)
FilmComicsExplained best content creator ever. Fr
Just gonna throw it out there.. My favourite scifi show to date
Great show Happy to see you covering it
Although cortical stacks are currently considered a product of science fiction, I wonder whether some day they might become an aspect of reality!
Wow, great concept!
❤
Yesssss so glad you did a review
Hope you can talk about the virus !
Though this show is one that you gotta watch from the beginning, if someone jumps in part way through they will be very confused.
I really wish the actor for Kovacs stayed for s2..
Season one cannot be touched in my opinion. So great
Your explanations are on point an flawless
It is a awsome show. Totaly blew my mind. Very well acted. Well written. Just all around great.
Amazing show. Hoping it gets a second season its the best show on Netflix
i god damn love this show i hope they do more of it
Love this series especially Edgar Poe. I hope it’s renewed with Joel as Takeshi again and not someone else. Because of the “sleeves” they could change up the actors every season. I hope you do another video on this show.
And yet they did just that and canceled.
one of the best Sci-fi serie i ever watch, the guys behind this are very taleented.
what if time travel was possible in this universe tho? like future you in a different sleeve meets past you? even freakier
Hehe.. Philip Dick
Fleshlight already makes life saving sleeves
Yezzzzz i love this!! I want more of this tv show.. i re watched it 3 times lol, its the perfect futuristic unviverse! :D quiz time! What would happen if you inserted a stack into a two headed lizard/animal?
The transfer of consciousness is impossible without the transferring of the brain itself.
Poe is more human to me than a being called a machine. RIP Poe ur the best ai ever.
This is a interesting show of sci-fi alright im gonna check on Netflix tomorrow, thanks for the video filmcomic😎👍
Goddamn i loved that show, i hope it gets second season. Gotta read the book too!
Yes!! A must watch.
This show was great. Im a big fan of the books so I had to suspend my pedantic tendencies over the changes.
at Brian I - ah i get you, i finally understand this comment after looking at it for so many months since 2019, you said " pedantic tendencies" iv translated it its latin, Pedantic (clinical English) ,
in my dialect we say "Peda-ic " (latin )/ " Child-like tendencies" (common English)" you book readers must really be on hairs about the changes. me i cant live with out the hero saying "get your ass to (planet) Mars" but in the book the colony was Australia and connected to the mother country through a tunnel system dug out.. but in the cinematic version they get there on a shuttel to mars took a few months to get there and you stay in your seat the whole way only getting up to go to the bath room. and sleep , and take the window seat or the isle seat.
Pretty interesting concept to think about
Nyat, the best in the business!
Great video as always
More cloverfield lore
Awesome show, up there with the expanse I hope theres a season 2
I actually read the book it's really good. I still want to see the series but I don't have a netflix account
This show was awesome I wish there were more
I looked up the latest news on this show and it was that the showrunner Laeta Kalogritis is working on a live action anime adaptation....
The initial person is not granted immortality, his clone is.
best channel on youtube
cheers mate :)
This channel is very different from my own channel but it's nice.
this is my overall favorite show, its an awesome one
Season 1 was amazing, season 2, lackluster
Awesome video, i enjoyed this show
This is a pretty awesome show. I highly recommend it.
This show was so good!
I know right!
I hope Netflix goes on to do a sequel going along with the second book as well, though the actor that played Kovacs left the show and he was one of the high points for me throughout the run of the show.
Been considering watching this, now I definitely will be
