Until it's fixed, here are the correct amounts:
Makes 6 Naan Bread
1 1/2 cups bread flour, or all-purpose flour, plus more as needed
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup plain Greek-style yogurt
4 cloves crushed garlic
1/2 cup thinly sliced green onions
2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing cooked naan
No offence but you once stated you would more metric measurements.
I think I'm still going to go with 4 cups garlic.
yuuuuuuum and THANK YOU!
Is that loose or packed backing powder? And same with the flour.
After you flipped the naan, it's good to put it straight onto the gas. It gives a better char to the bread. You can also do that with shop bought once to improve them. And raps
Little tip from making chapati/roti my whole life - use the solid block of butter on the hot flatbread soon as it hits the plate, and butter as you go. No sense pulling all of that apart, only to restack it
great tip, thanks!
You had me at "solid block of butter" 🎉
Great idea 😍😍
Yes, the garlic ingredient amount is NOT 4 cups, but rather 4 cloves. The recipe is being fixed. Thank you!
Need to fix the yoghurt on the recipe too if you haven't already! Great video as ever 💚
Oh! Just seen your top comment fixing amounts, nice work. Four cups of crushed garlic would be 🥵 but I'd probably still eat it!
@@NoelyNoel Garlic is life ♥
thank you :)
No such thing as too much garlic... Until you add too much garlic 😂
I make these all the time! You can make a batch of dough and leave it covered in the fridge to use throughout the week. It gets chewier each day :)
Thanks, I was wondering if you could put the dough in the fridge and use it throughout the week.
Mine turned out dry like crackers. I did use sower cream instead of Greek yogurt because there is no Greek yogurt where I come from. It was good but I was hoping it would be more soft.
@@FM_GOBi Try adding a little water with the sour cream. Bread dough consistency can vary with climate, so I go by feel.
I also lean towards more soft & sticky dough. If that makes it hard to roll out, then I'll just spread it out in the pan with a little oil and a soft spatula.
@@FM_GOBi I think you can add a few teaspoon of oil to the dough instead of yogurt.
I thought for sure you were going to say "After all you are the Chef John, of your green onion garlic naan"
I make naan this exact way (without the green onion) very often. I also use it for a quick pizza crust that's better than any frozen pizza, as I can put it on a stone!
"unlike some of my peers who will only show you the good ones, as you can see, on this one we have a hole, but that is not a problem. that is not anything. that is just a hole, and when you've added as much garlic and onion as we have, that very well might happen to you, and if it does i don't want you to feel bad. i want you to feel good, because it's fine." 😭❤
I did this with just flour and yogurt and salt one time and it still came out great and I didn't use baking powder or rest the dough or anything, and it still came out pretty nice. I brushed garlic butter on it.
I have some yogurt and I was going to try. Nice to know it very might work.
Actually you can replace the yogurt with milk mixed with a teaspoon of vinegar, it will work especially with the baking powder
That must be the laziest thing I've ever heard of .... and I admire that!
Sounds yummy & simple ! Will try this version thanks
Chef John, I can listen to you all day everyday. Thank you for all these years of sharing the best recipes ever!
lol sometimes for fun I slow the video to half the speed and he sounds sleepy drunk and almost ready to pass out :)
@@HmmmYeahRiiiiiight ooh let me try that lol
Naan, na na na Naan, na na na Naan na na Naan na na Naan! THANK YOU, Chef John!!!
Yes smoothing voice👏
Thank you,Chef John I always learn the why and becauses of your techniques’s.
I was just prepping for making your Garlic Naan, PERFECT TIMING, THANK YOU Chef John!!!😃🙏❤️
Your comments, instructions are very helpful! Thank you so much!!!!
These are delicious. Seriously some of the best naan I’ve ever had. So easy too, although a little messy.
Great video chef. I have just been researching how to make Naan recently. You must be looking at my view history :)
Thank you for this. I had never seen anyone roll the garlic and green onions into the dough this way.
Much easier!
Happy cooking,
UB
This was fantastic! I made it last night! Thank you Chef John!
I made this today, substituting the Greek yogurt with sour cream because it's what I had and it was so easy and delicious!! Thank you for another great recipe.
Tried this and worked great! thank you
I really like that you explain the reason you don't do some things, and the reason you do some things...e.g., not using too much extra flour when rolling the dough since it may lead to a 'dryer' naan.....
Super awesome!!!!
I made these. They were so easy! And very tasty.
Thanks so much for this recipe 😊
This recipe kind of reminded me of Chinese Scallion Pancakes! In any case, this looks delicious as always. Thank you!
Yes Chef, I will try it on the weekend.
I love Chef John!❤️😆
This looks like a great recipe. I struggle with flatbreads so looking forward to trying this out.
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 I happen to have all the ingredients! I'm making this tomorrow
I been looking for something like this. Thanks!!
"And I would tell you their name, but they insist on charging me full price." Savage.
Green onions are called spring onions in New Zealand ☺️. These look delicious! I must give them a go 😋
Called spring onions here in Oregon, too.
Yup, spring onions or chives here in Maryland - rarely have I heard people call them scallions in real life
Thanks for the recipe. It looks really good.
My mouth is literally watering!! THX
Thank you Chef John. Making this asap
Looks great and easy. Thanks for sharing. Stay well and safe.
Soooo. ....good. thank you!!!!
Just tried naan based on your recipe and it taste great. Thank you.
Ohhhhh… I’m so making this !!! YUMMMMM !
Love your channel, my sister and I sometimes do your recipes, gonna try to do this recipe.
I’ve done this style of bread for a long time! It’s great for pizza crust too or for pretzels
I have to try making this one of these days. I love naan, and this looks easy enough that I couldn’t mess it up too badly.
You make it look so easy! 👍
I love this recipe because I don’t have a friend or a spouse to help! Chef John, you rock
Thank you Chef. Just cooked a leg of spring lamb and naan, along with some tzatziki, grape tomatoes, and thinly sliced pickled red onions will be a perfect meal (several to be honest)
My dude always delivers.
Thanks again, Chef.
You are the best, don't ever change!
Chef John philosophy 6:04 and perspectives 6:17.
I like it.
By far the easiest bread ive made. Thank you so much
I just used your method kind of
I had self raising flour / mixed with coconut milk and cooked it in butter it tasted great
Just tried this one out. Best bread I’ve ever made! Was a hit with the entire house, thank you Chef John!
Definitely addictive, thanks
Just tried it yesterday. It went pretty well, but I cooked them a bit long. Since I bought an entire quart of yogurt, I can try it three more times 😉 Did not remember to buy scallions; so, this batch was without. Also, I don't have any bread flour in the pantry, but I did what I do for bread which is to add some extra gluten. They had the right amount of chewiness when fresh, but were extra chewy this morning (the next day.)
This is going to be a staple in my kitchen.
This is how I make my naan, however I’ve never tried adding green onion. I’ll try it next time!
This looks amazing! Best thing about naan... it doesn't matter if you can't roll out perfect circles 🤣🤣
Looks awesome, I'm making this tomorrow 😎 I tried at least 20 of your recipes over the last year and never failed with 1...thanks 👍
You still haven't found a Leprechaun though have you? Or a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
@@jonathanjames3984 no Leprechaun for me. But, I found some gold coins in Chef John's recipes 😎 Might lead me to that pot, you never know...
Perfect timing!
I love your channel!
you should make paratha. Its an Indian flat bread sizzled in oil. The best ones are stuffed with spiced potato (aloo paratha) --- they are delicious!
Please!!!
agreed! I’ve always preferred paratha.
Love this recipe. Will definitely try. I also enjoyed the Drake reference. Love the puns..
I usually buy naan from the Indian market in town but this sound easy enough for me! Tommorrow night we're having "your" Mulligatawny soup, so I'll give the naan a try too!
Yum ty, I'm copying this recipe 👏
The recipe has a Typo. The cups of garlic and tablespoon of Greek yoghurt are switched. But anyway, i will definitely make this tomorrow! Thank you Chef John!
Nice recipe Chef John! Try kneading right in the bowl & minimize mess! Also no need for single-use plastic wrap unless you're in a construction zone! Just leave it uncovered or grab a clean towel.
I guess if I can manage making tortillas I have to try this looks great thanks greetings from new Mexico
😱 yummy 👀 ❤️ thanks ✋
Thank you for the day's laugh, Chef John! 😀
Chef John, FYI Naan in Thai means long time, long wait.
But we love indian food and culture here in Thailand as always.
Any version of anything is what it w. Good 👍
Those look yummy😋
I was going to ask how to make this, but it’s naan of my business.
sir your voice has unique intonation....and it is kinda relaxing to listen to it..anyway, i just subscribed to your channel👍 even if I don't have any idea about your background
You give me great tips & recipes & make me laugh. Thanks
Nice! 😋
One if the best bread versions ever. Hmmmmmmmmm...
Green onions in the UK are spring onions 🥰 another one to add to the list
Same in Canada 🇨🇦
Same in the US
I made the dough plain and then brushed it with garlic oil/butter during baking them. Also very good, but I will try yours next.
Making this recipe is naan-negotiable
I should have tried this last night instead. I feel like I kinda failed at pita bread last night. These look great!
i will make it tomorrow. :)
Finally a recipe for naan
mmm, looks delicious!
also, the written recipe tells me to use 4 cups of crushed garlic, so that might need fixing
@@bartekowca666 and the yogurt is wrong too (he used significantly more than 1 tsp in video)....
Good, we have dinner plans!.
Chef John have you considered making more Venezuelan food? I think you'd love Asado Negro 🇻🇪
Hope you've had a great day!
I'm so glad you use "fingers which are attached to [your] hands." I hate hunting for gimmicky cooking tools.
Love you Chef John. I was laughing while watching you makes these hoping you weren't going to start jonesing because you forgot to add a little cayenne lol
5:57 Spoken like a true uncle, thank you for existing Chef John
I live in a certain part of Texas and can confirm that many people here call green onions "chives"
One of my favourite singers: K'naan
'give me freedom, give me fire
give me reason, take me higher...'
I love naan bread. Thank you so much for this! I'm going to go back and watch it again and try to impress upon my conscious memory exactly how this simple process works so I can finally do it! It amazes me to no end at my age of 66 the the absolutely essential things that other people know and do in the rest of the world to make their survival better, like making naan bread. Another example of that is really excellent rice. To me now that I've discovered it, perfect rice should never be drowned in something. you eat a bite of that perfect rice and add something else in your mouth to it it's so Good by itself so satisfying. Does anybody else feel like that or am I the only one waxing poetic about Jasmine rice? And what is your favorite rice? Question, is all naan bread no yeast?
Good rice truly is something special :) there are so many different ways to prepare it, whats`s yor favourite? I really like Basmati rice, but turkish rice is great as well.
Ragearding your question: no, there are many recipes that use yeast for naan bread, they just take longer. Chef John even has his own on his site that I've used so many times because it's really good.
@@ruruville hi ruruville thank you so much! It's a pleasure to be answered pleasantly by another human being isn't it? I shall next try the basmati! I am just a rank beginner Jasmine was my first foray into anything other than brown rice in forever! I've been trying so hard for the most part of my life to eat healthy rice that I've only eaten brown rice as I've been told but it's just nothing nothing in comparison with great Jasmine even Jasmine brown rice.
@@wendywhite2642 , in the spirit of “paying knowledge forward” (so no snark intended, just trying to help out a newbie, just like someone helped me), “naan” means “bread”, so it is more appropriate to just say “naan”unless you actually want to say “bread bread”.
(FWIW, it is the same with “chai tea” - it literally translates to “tea tea”.)
🤓
Your garlic naan recipe is a favorite so I definitely want to try this one. Would you confirm the amount of greek yogurt? The written recipe states 1 teaspoon but that can't be right!
It’s 1 cup, you can see him scrape the yogurt from a metal one in the video
Yum
Naan-thing better than fresh naan 😋😋
I have used a very similar recipe for years. The upside is that yogurt gives a silken quality to the dough. The downside is you lose flaky layers. I use garlic power instead of fresh to make it a little less biting.
Naan isn’t meant to have layers
My food wish is for some presentations on the gluten-free variants of these wonderful looking breads you do from time to time. I miss bread.
You could sub gluten free flour, for the bread flour in this recipe! Maybe try a 1/4 or half batch - to see if you like it.
I love the little inside jokes but wonder how many I miss. Today's was "Na Nana Na Na" by Steam, and since steam makes the bread bubble, I'm assuming it's a double with the naan and the steam. Good job, John :)
Looks great, gotta try it. I suppose you could use a tortilla press?
We make this a bit differently, we make the dough roll it flatten it, once that is done we throw a scoop of the onion in the Dough then we wrap it around and start rolling it with our hands until all onion pieces get mixed and the Dough becomes like a long noodle
After this we just start wrapping the noodle from the middle then softly press it down so it becomes circular again then we cook it
I think this is better as you don't crush the onion pieces that much and gives it a better texture
The
In Scotland green onions are sometimes called syboes
This reminds me of "the simplest flatbread recipe." Self-Rising flour + any milk product (cottage cheese, yogurt, milk, cream cheese, whatever) enough to form a dry dough. Roast in a dry pan. That's it.
That's pretty much it, if you are not using yogurt or sour cream a splash of vinegar or lemon will really make them puffy
@@enriquedossantos3283 Will try.
Edit: Did increase fluffiness a bit.
When cooking, I do one side for about 10 seconds, just enough to sear and seal the side, flip untill it puff up, flip for a bit more.
Then, between naans, wipe the pan out with kitchen paper else you get burnt dusting flour which sours the naan.
🤣😂🤣I loved the flour and yogurt part, I had to share!
Me too! Hahaha
You should try potato stuffed roti or my favourite - chinese daikon stuffed roti.
