I can see why they didn’t include this in the final product; it’s kinda weird to hear Eurydice singing a song written by someone else ABOUT her, but my god Ashley’s vocals complement Darren’s so well...
I think the other part of it, is the song sounds significantly sadder and more regretful solo. Together its just fantastic. A matter of it being too good I guess.
Darren's voice when he performs as Orpheus is "peculiar" when sung solo, but when he sings with Ashley it's just on another level, it's like they were always meant to sing in duo. Thanks for this hidden gem
It's really interesting to think that Orpheus is the highest parts of the song while Eurydice is the low end, and consistent thorough the song when Orpheus goes higher like the "sail free" and "Ever on," Eurydice sings a harmony that's lower on the scale. And there is some slightly discordance with a few harmonies through the song as well but I think that further serves the rocky relationship that the two had prior to the events of Hades
Never thought on this much, but it is quite an interesting note. And for me, the unusual combinations of the notes bring out something otherworldly to this song. Not sure what exactly, but it works wondrously.
@@garr_inc Yeah, me being a bit of a music nerd, it's nice to have those dissonant melodies through this song. It really does add to that "underworldly" feel of the song 😅
People who combed through the code of these games are mad, I tell you. They have way over 50 GB folders with stuff from there or something. I don't remember. And that's why we love them. They have everything.
I know this is a bit older, but I just realized that these "unused" vocals are actually in the Underworld mix version of the lament. They're very subtle in the background
That’s the point, when Orpheus lost Euridyce he wrote a song so sad that crops died and mothers miscarried. He was later murdered for the sadness he brought by the very mothers he had forsaken
Meravigliosa🖤 . . . Yeah. I wasn't sure how it would sound mixed together due to some interesting combinations with Eurydice. It turned out extremely interesting, while remaining pristine and beautiful.

wait hold on... if you listen to lament of orpheus (underworld mix) on the official soundtrack, you can hear the same harmony faintly in the background... I think it's the track Ashley sang?
I have listened to the Underworld mix, and I did not hear any vocal performance in the background. But Darren easily could have used other instruments to add this harmonisation. I will check again and answer you fully.
I listened to the Mix again, and you are surprisingly correct! It is *extremely* faint, but there are episodes where there is Ashley's voice in the background. Just a slight echo in the plentitude of sounds, and yet it echoes through.
Because when Orpheus sings it, he is lamenting his lost Leno... I mean, Eurydice. And when he is reunited with her... Why would he sing about his lamenting? And why would _she_ sing of _his_ lament if she had her own, probably different, experience? But yes, this would sound even more staggering than the single Orpheus version.
@@noragrayson229 It is one of the few songs that he actually sings before he reunites with Eurydice, because it is _her_ song. And when they reunite, he doesn't mind singing something beloved by her. At least, in my opinion.
mmmm don't really feel it... Good Riddance is SO good because the whole song has a new context when they sing together (Eurydice sings about how she isn't bound to the living world anymore, but when they sing together, it's about this paradise they have found in the afterlife). But Lament of Orpheus is staight up a dirge, the whole point is that it's Orpheus singing about... not beign able to sing with Eurydice. It's a sad song, and even after he was suffocated in water (because he probably sang that while still was alive), he was still sad about losing Eurydice and not dying, because by that point it probably meant nothing for him. That's why the game is pretty interesting in the takes of the myths... Hades has a really big weak spot for Orpheus on the game. He practically slipped inside and out of the Underworld like Sisyphus... but he can't even come up with a punishment for him.
That's why there is no official version of Eurydice singing it, let alone the duet. It is not right. However, for purely esthetic pleasure, it works wonders...

Exactly. It is Orpheus' song. And his only.
But the harmony here is stellar...
Like, I see the logic & I understand this not being in the final product, but my GODS this is a treasure!
But Good Riddance was written by Eurydice about Orpheus, and they both sing that one. I'd argue it's just as personal.
@@veruminfiniteofficial3334 I get your point, but Good Riddance, while it is pretty much about Orpheus, doesn’t reference him directly.

I love that Orpheus does harmony for a song Eurydice wrote and Eurydice does harmony for a song Orpheus wrote

the harmonizing during "ever on" at 1:53 is so amazing
Yeah... I agree.
This entire duet is just the best showcase of how beautiful harmonizing can sound. It's just angelic

1:53 to 2:41 are just so good with the harmonies unf. Phenomenal job.
All credit for the harmonies go to Darren Korb. He composed these. I just put together the parts that were separated by higher order.
