Nice update Ana. It took me a while to get the right height and light intensity with my one too, can be tricky as well when you have seedlings and plants that like different light levels under one grow light. It was tricky cause I wanted the seedlings to grow. During winter, I just want my cactus to just sleep comfortably. 😉

I’m a newbie to cacti & succulents, and I’ve learned so much from your videos. Right now I’m REALLY doing a crash course on mealybugs. I just lost a large, gorgeous golden cactus cuz they were inside it and ate it all up till it collapsed. ☹️ Just part of my learning curve, I guess. Thank you for all of your great info & suggestions!
I’m sorry that happened to you. What a coincidence, today, I just found out that root mealies attacked my Parodia bowl arrangement. 3 cacti casualties. 😔 Ugh. Root mealies are harder to detect. Oftentimes, it is too late when it shows external signs on the cactus.
@@CactusCaffeine Thank you. And yikes, I never heard of root mealies, but I’ve heard they can live in the soil. That had to have been my problem! 😠
I came home tonight with another beautiful, large golden barrel cactus, and in a couple of weeks, I’m going to water it with a small amount of alcohol/water mix. I can’t let this one get eaten up too. 😳

So sorry about your cacti bowl ... I never knew how awful mealybugs were till I started my succulent collection. They’re really a menace!
@@reagonowmix it is best to repot a cactus in your own soil after buying a cactus from the store. That way you can inspect its roots and also you are sure that your soil is clean. You may do the alcohol+water treatment in the soil like you plan but if there are already mealy bugs in the soil, watering it once will not kill all of them.
You take such good are of your babies! I had some seedlings turn red out in my hot polytunnel this summer and I had to put them back into a jar and a location where they get less direct sun. They are much happier now too. 🌵🌵🌵🌵🌵😀

Yes, I finally got the settings right. Lol! You are lucky to live in a tropical country. You don’t need to worry about winter and not having enough sunlight and heat. 😉

Having adequate light for my plants in the winter is one of the most challenging parts of keeping cacti for me. I love them, but I have limited space in winter time. Might be time to invest in a small greenhouse.
Loads of happy babies and yes the astros are so cute. Thank you for sharing this video so we have an idea how cacti grows under growlights. I don’t have one and no plan yet of buying as I don’t know where to put it hahaha
Ana, I’m beginning to see myself buying cactus lately I just don’t have space much . The hard thing is some of the cactus I’m getting don’t have lane so pretty much unknown to me. You are one cactus expert I am amazed how you cactus love get bigger and bigger . I do remember when you install the lights last time and those cactus weren’t that big and now look at those growing beautiful.

Hi Ana, is this a UV light or not? I would prefer not to get a UV light. I am assuming it's not a UV light as the colours aren't violet as UV is ultra violet haha, nice seedlings by the way

Some of my seedlings are so picky. I haven’t found the right lighting intensity.
It is tricky alright. I lost some experimenting with the right amount of light. But once you find the perfect setting, it will be so much easier. 😃

It all depends on what type of cactus you are growing, the type of pot that you use and your climate. But generally, yes, I would recommend adding perlite other any other grit material to it. 🙂👍🏼
I found when I opened the Black Gold soil that it already had a lot of perlite. So I didn’t add any. I’ve read watering repotted anywhere from 1 to 7 days after repot. What’s a good average time?

Hi Jeff. Black Gold soil is not consistent (unfortunately) I found out that the composition depends on what state produced your particular bag of soil. Isn’t that so annoying? 😟 My bag of Black Gold has no perlite in it and it is more organic.
@@CactusCaffeine My black gold is full of little sticks, and perlite. I would prefer to see more organically. My next reporting from the nursery will include this. I’ll have to see how my Northeast black gold goes. 🙃
