ive witnessed the replicas play dead like 3 times when I played for the first time this year and I thought I was going nuts or that it was some kind of glitch. I didnt see any other FEAR video mention that they can do that. That's so awesome
@@Kazaonyt Yeah im shocked the wiki doesn’t mention it but its super rare. They have a specific animation for playing dead and they just lay there until u pass them and they spring up to attack. This behavior is absent from Fear 2 and 3 unfortunately. Im not sure if it happens when their squad is near wiped out or if it happens just randomly. Id imagine its only when its down to a few soldiers left and out of desperation. Its a Replica only behavior too i never see ATC or Nightcrawlers doing it
@@Kazaonyt My guess is that it happens more often when the squad is nearly wiped out and u have to shoot them to trigger the animation to pretend to be dead
My favourite FPS of all time. I re-install it once every few years in order to experience it. I recently found out the game is set in 2025, so that is when I will replay it. I would love a remaster or even a remake - it would grab the attention of the younger generation towards this masterpiece
I never played it around the time it released because i was little lol. but i watched my brothers play it. first time i actually played it myself was around the time i made this video. Though i never played it around its release. I still think this is one of the greatest shooters ever made with an incredibly underrated story
Almost 20 years later (crazy that its been that long) and the FEAR spas12 remains probably my favourite shotgun in any game, there really hasnt been anything else that feels like it has quite has much punch with how the balistics, ragdolls and sound design in the game work as that thing does, and the way you reduce the replicas to a red mist sometimes at close range still gives me goosebumps that shit is unmatched.
41:49 I have seen that animation before, but the few times I saw it, they fell on the floor and got up soon after, like they were getting up after doing push-ups maybe something canceled their animation process, or it really is an AI feature
I've beaten the game several times, it was first time I witnessed it. He didn't ragdoll, he just fell down with an animation instead. I have no idea what happened but he got up and ambushed me. It was a really cool moment
@@Kazaonyt hmm, seems like the reply I sent didn't get sent or something anyway, what I wanted to say, is that there is another relatively rare animation where you shoot a replica, and they get knocked back into a sitting position, leaving them vulnerable until they can stand back up
@@agbrenv I've seen that plenty of times, they get knocked off their feet and fall backwards and it takes a few seconds to get back up. But you rarely see it simply because of how quick fights end
Ive been a gamer for almost all my life, played alot of original xbox and 360 and have never heard of this game. Or at least i dont remember it. This is some great work though going over all of it and its history! Crazy work fr man!
Finished the video last night, did not expect the story to go that deep. Honestly the way the story is told, no wonder no one talks about it. They probably missed all the hidden information, what a shame. Great video man
finally a fear video that praises its story, too many vids focused on the ai and the action. This one finally goes deep into the story and goes into theories. I love it, some of your thoughts and perspectives on some of the plots are really refreshing. I just wished you included more of the horror in the vidoe, there are some great scares. Other than that, this is a really refreshing video, keep it up!
I'm glad you pointed out the lack of horror in the video. I really agree with that point, there are some really clever scares and moments that could miss if you blink (Alma appearing in areas etc)
I know so many people that didn't experienced this incredible game. This was my first experience in the fps/horror genre videogame and to this day there's no equal!! The gameplay is great, the atmosphere is some of the best out there. Just shows you don't meed Michael Bay ish action and setpiece to make a game interesting. It kept me on the edge of my damn seat for the whole playghtrough. The AI is so smart you have to be focus in everygun fight. And this game is sooooo BALANCED. Action, horror and quiet moments are so well balanced in this game. It keeps you on edge but also gives you little moments of piece here and there that lets you get your guard down a little and breath. Than you jump right back in a gunfight or an horror set up.
I fully agree, the pacing is amazing. I love how they built up the tension in the first mission instead of throwing you straight into a fight. It's a while before you even get to shoot anything in the game and I think that was a great approach to essentially fighting the unknown.
Most likely not since I don't think fear 2 and 3 are good simply because the story in fear 2 is a mess and the level design is bad. This makes the ai in fear pretty bad. And fear 3 is a bit of an insult to the franchise and isn't considered cannon, it was even made by monolith, thank god.
took me a while to finish this video, im used to your shorter hunt videos but Im glad i watched this. Really enjoyed it and you're explanation of the story was great. hoping for more content like this in the future!
It means a lot, honestly. I spent a lot of time on this video and it makes me happy people are enjoying it. I know it's not my usual content but im glad some of my hunt subs are giving it a try
Your explanation of this games story is so well done you did a top job. Loved watching this these games were insanely good for the time. I would hope they’d make these games into movies would be sick. Any plans to do this for the sequels?
Thanks man, means a lot seriously. I don't have any plans to cover the sequels because I personally think they're not very good compared to the first one. The second one has a really messy story and the gameplay is a big downgrade compared to the first because the overall level design is way too linear and doesn't give the AI any freedom. The third game is a massive insult to the franchise which thankfully Monolith didn't actually make, around that time the IP was sold to warner brothers but I could be wrong about that.
just finished the video, I really liked your analysis, though it's kinda finda the amount of detail in it, yet you managed to misspell/misremember the name of 3 characters :D it's Harlan Wade not Harlem, Chuck Habegger not Charles Habegger and Genevieve Aristide not Geneviene :D 1 minor info on Marshal Disler, he is at the Perseus Compound when the whole Fettel situation starts though it's unknown if he is alive or not, since when ATC start killing the people involved, you can hear a group talking about how they've got rid of Aldus, but they are still looking for Ian Hives and Marshal Disler, Ian as you said in the video is already dead at that point since Fettel found him, but you never see a phantom of Marshal, which indicates Fettel possibly couldn't find him and he managed to stay alive this would mean Marshal and Phil Vecchio (who according to voicemails or ATC chat, has left the country) are the only other named characters who were involved with the whole Alma situation who are still alive, apart from Genevieve who IS definitely alive
Chuck is short for Charles. Charles in one of the messages refers to himself as chuck. Yes I know I miss spelled names lol and even pronounced them wrong, I spent two months on this video, I had a lot of work to do, cut me some slack 🤣 I pretty sure marshal disler is in persus mandate but honestly didnt like it and it was boring to play. But that expansion isn't canon and thank god it isn't
@@Kazaonyt oh my bad, I always thought Chuck is it's own seperate name, there are some really weird (for me) short versions of names like Dick for Richard, Bill for William it really shows, that you worked a lot on it, I've played through FEAR and the 2 expantions 3-4 times and your video still managed to bring light on details I never thought of even the Extraction Point which I actually saw before this one, since UA-cam recommended this one, after I watched Extraction Point, anyway, your explanation on Fettel returning and how it was possible was really an "aha!!" moment for me haven't played Perseus Mandate in 3 years, but I don't remember him being mentioned, and I'm definitely certain he doesn't appear
