It sure sounds like you have planned carefully and done well. But just so your viewers know, I want to point out the other end of all this. I am 87; started drawing SS at 62 (in 1999). I later became a real estate broker selling HUD homes at average price of $40,000 (in GA; around 2001), so I wasn't getting rich but made more than I had ever made before. But that's a red herring; here's my point: The annual raises we get in our SS income are based on what the government decides is the inflation rate, which as far as I can tell, is based on "cooked books". The raises never actually keep up with inflation, thus you have less and less "buying power" every year. So at 87 I'm about 25 years behind! Just know that.... it adds up! And groceries take up more and more of your allotted income. Every year.
Hay Ernest, subbed your channel, I like your videos! Casual and honest! Im living in Denton just north of Dallas, tirned 62 this year and now getting my SSI. Didn't know what might happen politically so i chose to get it st 62, im also ex military, single and have been devotced 30 plus years now, never remarried and it works well for me! Don't get me wrong, i think wemon are great, but i like not having to anwser to anyone orher than myself. Dod commercial construction most of my adult life, amd now my body is paying the price! But like you i learned long ago to get out of debt, and for 30 years now i don't owe anything to anyone other than normal things, insurance, utilities, but everything i have ove paid for when I bought it! Im not rich, but im debt free! If I can't pay for something at the time of purchase I don't buy it! I may have to find something to do part time as you were talking about, being home alot is getting dull fast! Anyway, i enjoyed listening to what you had to say! And i saw you video with the big RV pulled up next to yours! To much for me! I just want one of those 14 x 30 shed homes with a nice coverd porch kind of in the country with a porch and no neighbors to close!
I did the math on my age and retired at 62 , 5 years military and 31 years coal mining and 2 heart attack and 1 open heart surgery i hung my hard hat up , got an RV and up graded my Ram , gave my house to my son and i hit the road , 37 states later I'm loving my freedom now .I'm lucky i lived good on my income over the years and my retirement is good with full medical coverage .I'm full time RV living off grid tax free .
Retired at 55. The last few years i worked SS was sending me statements telling me at 62 i would receive $2343.00 per month. Needless to say i worked alot. Started at 13. Getting out at 55 was always the plan. Never had kids. Are home is paid for. Between my wife and I we do just fine. Its all about choices. I really like getting up each day and not having to put up with the BS. I can and do whatever i want.

Hey Ernest...Almost 61 and in the same spot your in, almost exactly. Looking forward to 62 and retiring! Your sitting pretty good,,,,keep enjoying life to the fullest! Rock on!
That commenter was out of line and probably has no friends. Been married for 21 years and feel like I’m extremely fortunate. I’ve never dwelled on negative things that happen because there will always be people who have it better than me and those who have it worse than me. I appreciate what I do have.
Wow!!!!! Congratulations!!!!! I too will retire in the next 6 years at 62 but for now I moved abroad just to keep living a healthy and affordable life.
I am married 67 working part-time Rn visit nurse in Arizona. I take ssb. I really like your honesty and smart with money. Going over seas for wife is silly. You should be able to meet someone here.with your retirement upcoming, you will have time to socially be places to meet a smart woman. There are plenty of beautiful ladies here, finally set and available.
Im newly Subscribed to your channel. I love your channel and your message. Thanks for sharing everything! Looking forward to viewing your older and new posts.
Definately filing at 62 for retirement - that and retirement and frugal life should be enough. Military benefits are helpful. Next step is to be debt free 🏆
I watch a lot of the Nomads on here but everybody's situation is different! I started drawing my Social Security at 65 this past January 1st. I also have a business to still draw some money off of. I have to watch how much I draw so that I don't get penalized for it! Maybe you can build your viewers up and start getting paid from UA-cam! Like the way you do your videos
Awesome brother ,I live near sea world I see some nice rv parks. I have a nice big home ,however like you I feel like I'm a slave to the home. I had to retire early severe osteoarthritis and stress did the math told the wife and kids I'm retiring or dying at work . So in 2020 I broke away took my 401 now fast forward 2024 I received my first SS check combined with my retirement pension I'm Living good stress free don't have aby debt with exception of home but ive been thinking about payoff ,in anycase we own everything outright . I believe the only thing that would make it better is getting an RV hook my kayak or pond boat, then head to coast live there for weeks or months at a time. Wife doesn't like the idea but she knows if I need that she won't get in way. Like they say, "Life's a box of chocolates ,you never know what ya gonna get!"
My brother Lives in MobiLe Home Near Los Osos, There's a few Spaces 4 Rv's Near a GoLf Course, & it's a Nice PLace, bye Oh if i' Had the Money I'd get a 22' DauL AxLe TraiLer that's easy Towing, the Small Grand Design had a Vg Kitchen Counter Lol
I was thinking about it but last time I saw it said I needed to work until 70-80. I guess that's why I started wanting to be full-time RV living. Kind of would like to have solar power maybe to power the whole RV. If my dad doesn't sell his property we thinking about moving there or a trailer park there half the rent $250.00 compared to the $500.00. but we need to pay off the trailer and the truck before we can go.
Love that you watch Sarasota Tim! That’s probably how we got connected to your video. You have a great demeanor and appreciate you sharing. Will your social security be affected with “windfall” because of your civil service pension?
Would be good to set up an appt with the SSA as it sounds like you could possibly be hit with the WEP which will be a deduction from your monthly SS benefit amount. Best to look into it and not have any surprises.
Yup retired @ 62 3/4 of a year started ssi. I have no side gig have a small nest egg haven't touched it it continues to grow. living frugally don't drink alcohol rarely eat out at restaurants. Only vice is a fresh ground 16oz cup of coffee every morning ground by yours truly. 67 yessir you can go back to work but not me at this time I no plans to go back to the grind. Overlanding around the country is my passion visit small town usa.
Man with a plan, I like it, I’m in my mid 50s unfortunately in todays economy a household income barely busting six figures ain’t going to get you very far, In the last four years I’ve had reset my approach to my career and learn new skill sets, one of them as you mentioned is learning how the stock market works and taking advantage of down turns and upswings, to earn money.
😂even drs are broke u think they have alot of $$$$$ but they don't they have all their money allocated to yess Bills student loans ect, even they don't plan well to each is own good luck !!
Remember to sign up 6 Mo before your 62 birthday, I’m 58 and going to retire at 62 as well. My wife retired 8 months ago at 62. Your channel came up on my newsfeed I’m a new subscriber, 😊
I also watch Sarasota Tim! I recently reached 62 yrs and 9 mos., so I am now eligible to retire. I enjoy my work and my work team. But, deciding when to retire shouldn’t be a difficult decision, right? It is! Did I mention my awesome team and the work we do together? 🤓 Anyhoo, thanks for sharing your story. I am excited for you. Also, thanks for opening it up for dialogue-and inspiring others into taking this next step in retirement. #welcometothefirstdayoftherestofyourlife
I guess the other problem we have is we got 1500 Chevy Silverado Texas edition and our trailer is a 5th wheel trailer. We had a used Chevy Silverado Daramax diesel it broke down twice on same day. We got rid of it so might have to get another one but the one we have can pull 9,500.00 pounds the trailer is 5,500.00 unloaded.
there is no one answer is there?! for me, the answer pointed to wait until FRA and collect survivors' benefits. I wanted to retire at 62 but the money coming in at that point wasn't going to cover any travel or extras that I might want. I opted to continue working and retire at 67 with no debt. I don't have to worry about money, but I have really slowed down since age 60-62. it's a tradeoff .
I love it. Great advice I would just add though that you don’t want to take out your 401(k) unless you have to that would almost be a reason to have a part time job is to let that money continue to grow because that money would double every seven years in good mutual funds
Ernest, I have a question. I just commented on another video, which was my first one which I subscribed. Do you have to sign a lease in the park you are staying? I ask this b/c the news these days talk about the huge increases in Trailer/RV parks. Some people are being evicted and told to get their single wides off the property. This makes me sad b/c some of these people are poor. Your park is different and when I had the chance to live in a trailer, it was on its own land. I figured I'd live there until I could haul the thing away and build a home on the property.
No lease, it's month to month. The price is different for long-term term then overnight. I could pay less if I moved outside the city. I am here because of location. Near my kids and work. That might change once retire
@@lmErnest Thanks for taking the time to reply to my question. Again, fantastic situation plus the park's grounds, with pool and clean laundry room. It is resort-like. Your $3K a month loss is substantial (multiplied it by 12, divided it by 52) making it a loss of approx $700/week. However, your other investments will fill in the gaps. 😀
Partner I’m 58 and I had to bury my dad two months ago, our lives are short and every day they get shorter. We never know when an illness will hit us and we don’t know if we will recover. Retire and enjoy your life, make the very best of what is left while you can. Find an rv park and maybe work part time for them or just go get a little simple part time gig six months out of the year. Live your life today because tomorrow might not be here.
In order to preserve your retirement she walked away with the house and other assets? Otherwise, your pension is her pension. The state does not tolerate you retiring when she cannot and live better than you.
Real people, with real concerns in life...that is something we all have in common. We're all here trying to figure out what will help us in life. Retirement really is a lifestyle choice for me. I had to leave work at 60 for various reasons with no income until 65 when the pensions kick in. Just living off savings right now...made possible with being debt-free. Keeping it real! Awesome!!
So if you are reducing your income by $3K per month are you currently saving around $3k a month into your retirement nest egg since your expenses seem pretty moderate?
SorrySap Tim is a crackpot. He gives bad info. You are much better and are honest. Never say what you don't know to be true. I like your advice. Free advice is worth what it costs. Cheers!
You may get to keep more money than you think since some retirement is not taxed. Let an accountant run the figures. VA and disability is not taxed is it? Air conditioner is not loud.
My ex gay husband of 24 years is retiring and won’t be able to pay me alimony. I want to buy a decent 5th wheel and live somewhere with decent weather and fair rental space price
We know you aren't giving financial advice. Jeez if you really have to go back and say that - shows how little people understand. I've known '62' for years. Because I want to live longer while retired. Period.

Retire and move to some place like the Philippines where your money goes so much farther!
Gross. That is where all the old creepy men go to pay for sex because US women are too smart to date them.

Hi Ernest!!
Hello 👋
So if you are reducing your income by $3K per month are you currently saving around $3k a month into your retirement nest egg since your expenses seem pretty moderate?
No my child support will stop before my retirement and I have no bills just the RV rent
I think 70 and older you can make as much as you want.
SorrySap Tim is a crackpot. He gives bad info. You are much better and are honest. Never say what you don't know to be true. I like your advice. Free advice is worth what it costs. Cheers!
55 planing to retire at 60.
im hitting 60 and my dumb ass wants to get into a tractor trailer and just drive-- but its not fun anymore with regulations
You got that right ... Just not fun anymore ... Too many crazy folks just going to be going
You may get to keep more money than you think since some retirement is not taxed. Let an accountant run the figures. VA and disability is not taxed is it? Air conditioner is not loud.
Yes, I am I cant wait I need the money you can still work and make 25k Nov 1st is my day paperwork getting filled out next month. ENJOY

My ex gay husband of 24 years is retiring and won’t be able to pay me alimony. I want to buy a decent 5th wheel and live somewhere with decent weather and fair rental space price
It sounds to me that your wife made the mistake. 😊😊

I would advise you not to give advice. 😂 Have a great day Ernest.
I think you shouldn't give advice but rather share your experience and opinions on how you lived over the years. Think about it as giving back to society just make it known that its not financial advice.
I thought that's what I was doing
You sound like a scared, little man. Let him do what he wants.
What and more importantly how you are saying it is helpful and appreciated.
@@lmErnest i thought you were just outlining your situation and thoughts about it!
Me me me ! You are so annoying 🤬
Yes, you should and get your money and enjoy it while you’re healthy and while you’re alive and while you can
I think 70 and older you can make as much as you want.
