I must have heard a hundred different versions of "she moved through the fair" winsome, passionate, precise, crystal clear, cheesy. But I've never heard a version as good as this.
Sinead O Conors version is much better than this one (the background music was rubbish here,Shane's vocal was not suited to this particular song----unlike many others)
Oh my God Tina Was the 'struggle' for both of you? I think she is free of this place now - It's very beautiful there - where she is. This song was one of the first I learned in my life. My family is Irish on my fathers side, and my "Gran" taught me this song. One of my most treasured "posessions".
Angelica Luce Thank you so much for the note. My Mom was 89. All Scottish. Some part Irish. Didn’t get Dementia. The last four years, everyone is gone. I spent every Sunday and some Saturdays visiting her at the long term care facility. Many times we took her dinner, because institutional slop isn’t very tasty. She had a private room so I would close the door and we would chit chat for hours. I often took her for long drives around our county, past the Farm, where she grew up at and to many other places. We burned a lot of fuel. Towards the end I had to lift her into the car. Many people visited her and the facility staff all loved her dearly. Her health declined and slowly she died. Last Night was like being in a storm. She died as she lived, like a trooper. No medical interference. Wouldn’t go to the hospital. I was with her for all of it. Held her hand, talked to her. I know she heard me a few times, her hand, the slightest squeeze At the end she drowned. I couldn’t do anything about it. After she past. I cleaned her up. Combed her hair. Put her Tartan blanket on her. The most amazing thing happened. The worry and concerns of life melted away. Like the end of the Storm. She started to radiate and her youth came back. I experienced rapture and stayed by her side to witness that until noontime. It took eight hours to come out of the states I was in. I totally love this Shane’s version of “ she moved through the fair “ I play it often. Drumming it on my legs. I am David. My wife is Tina. Thank you for hearing some of my story Angelica and helping me.
@@tinahaynes696 I know it's been a few years since you posted this, but it just hit me square. End of life struggles are the stuff of the deeply conflicted way of reckoning with this thing we call mortal life. Joy, sorrow, and everything in between; before, during, and after the "storm". Beautiful and heartbreaking, for mature appetites only.

I heard this song twenty years ago but never knew what it was called, it still stuck with me all this time though. Now I have found it again I love it, Shane MacGowan is such an emotional vocalist he really nails this beautiful song. His voice even broke at the end with the emotion, amazing.

What an amazing melody and beat for that old song. Try singing it like him and you realise it is quite difficult. We are so used to the commercial melody of this song. This version id gr8!
I've heard this song sung with more...harmonic skills...but Macgowan gives it a rawness that others lack that adds so much more weight and heartbreak and loss to it.
this is just a brilliant version of the song- first heard it played as a guinness tv advert and tried to get hold of it but couldnt find any record of it being recorded so gave up- then i found it on b side of a popes single ! it reminds me a bit of the smiths how soon is now
@Louisefalk78 Right ON!! those who are concerned with teeth and such just do not get the terrible and beautiful gift that Shane MacGowan has been born and possessed by. May we all be so blessed to hear his heart and soul. For sure I am possessed, eh-heh.
@Louisefalk78 I believe the angels are the seemingly unlovely, the homeless and other uncomely sorts of living beings. Loving the beautiful is just too easy, superficial and without the true rewards of the hearts and spirit. Thanks to all those who can see beyond the obvious. Each year I appreciate Shane MacGowan all the more than the last. As if this is even possible.
Many thanks for the upload! Been searching for this version for a while. Has it (ora version) been used in a Murphy's beer advert? Pretty sure that's where I heard it first.
@@HerFatherDidntLikeMe it was a brilliant version of "She moves through the fair" on the kilkenny advert. Apart from the advert I have never found a clear version of that excellent song. The pogues version on you tube........first 30 seconds sounds awful
Mike I think you may have misunderstood. I'm referring to the band Celtic Woman, not celtic women in general. Sinead O'Connor does a lovely version and I see you've been listening to Loreena McKennit and Sandy Denny. Anne Briggs may be English but she also carries this rather well. Now, search for "celtic woman she moved through the fair" and tell me how it compares, cos I think it's up there with Michael Flatley for portraying saccharine tourist Oirish, but that's just my opinion :)
Does it really matter if he has his teeth or not.... Listen to this incredible voice... Johnny Rotten had bad teeth too and he made a fortune, so looks isn´t what counts voice and talent is....

sang with true bollocks, this version blows all the other simpering attempts out of the water
