How many years of experience is need from regular IT work to get into the cyber security field with a certification like Security Plus or Certified Network Defender? What is your thoughts about getting a Certified Network Defender from EC-Council? Also I have around 10 months of PC technician experience, would that check off Step 3?

I've worked with computers my whole life and built my own. I probably know most of the A+ curriculum just offhand. Yet I still work a shitty dead end min-wage job. Really been thinking about getting into IT lately because working at fast food and grocery stores for years has really just ignited a rage in me like no other. The customers are rude as hell and disrespectful. At least as an IT help desk I'd be getting full time hours and some benefits. I know my worth and this isn't it.
I would start applying and make sure you have you resume written with ChatGPT , which is what I did. List all experience u have for IT even if it’s helping friends and family as the dedicated IT guy for them. List out your customer service experience as well , maybe list that your studying for you comptia A+ . I transition from Walmart to a really good entry level job with in the year bro so it’s very do able.
I have a bachelor's in MIS and I'm still looking for work. I just started a job today and my goal is to save up and take a comptia a+ exam. From what I hear it is supposed to give me an overall understanding of IT and serves a good way to decide whether I want to study for cybersecurity. So I'm gonna save money for this. I finished school in 2020, during covid, so I'm pumped about getting the ball rolling again. Wish me luck! 💯🙏🏼

It is not easy. I have been on furlough for over a year by Marriott, in the DC area and have been diligently sending resumes out and had only a handful of interviews. Hospitality and IT field is like day and night. Oracle and some other companies maybe try to bridge the gaps by managing computer software like Micros and others. Also started IT field studies in a community college for over 2 years now and will be going for my Bachelors but … it is an extremely slow process.

It's hard to really give any tailored advice since I don't know your exact situation, but you could try seeing the kind of jobs in your area and manufacturing yourself some experience that match those. Amazing video. I am trying to finish up my a+ currently. I just need the 1002 exam. I graduated with a BA in computer science back in 2003. I changed career paths and went to cooking school and worked in the hotel industry the past 17 years until the pandemic hit. This motivated me to get back into IT because my restaurant in the hotel closed. I was just wondering what information I can get how to make a blog for my resume. What resources are on the internet. Definitely agree with the whole small town thing I live in a country town with a population of 27,000 So even smaller than Walla Walla lol and yes I can attest that it is very hard to find jobs here for every occupation I’m definitely game for moving anywhere especially Seattle I’ve always wanted to go there

I failed the a+ exams twice. The second time my score was lower than the first on both parts. The exams are bs how they are worded and set up. I waited 6 months in between tries, and i studied the entire time. That was after a year of studying before i took my first try. Im extremely discouraged and i cant afford to take the exams again. I basically had to take out a loan to take them.
Dang, that sucks and I'm really sorry. I find that grinding practice questions helps quite a bit. Then target studying areas that are difficult. Be sure to get some really good practice questions though, like Professor Messers, CBT Nuggets, and any official ones you can find. Careful of random free questions on the internet.
Step 1 get knowledge. Great start. Because no one is going to hire you if you don't have knowledge in THE SPECIFIC AREAS they are hiring for. You'll also need demonstrable experience IN THOSE AREAS. Step 3 is "make your own experience". How exactly does that work? And wasn't the title "without Experience"? Sure you can do the lab's and tut's... but is it really experience? (Hint: no) Overall most of your suggestions are 101 "how to get **any** job". And no I didn't watch the entire video, cause... no, you can't get a job in IT with no experience.
I guess we have to define what "experience" is. In this context, I was referring to experience as having worked a job where you had to fill out an i-9/w-2 etc, in an official sense. So yeah, you can definitely get a job in IT without having done this. Someone can get REALLY good at using technology and understanding business processes on their own. Of course, without having worked in an actual corporate environment, even the most technical person will be lacking some nuanced knowledge/experience, but the learning curve will be MUCH less if they have primed themselves before hand with projects and self-study. As someone who has hired a lot of people and has several employees myself, I can't hire these type of self-starters fast enough 👍

Hey Ayon, no need to get A+ if you plan to jump straight into Net+/Sec+. I believe jobs "requiring" A+ will make an exception if you have N/S, though maybe you won't be applying to those anyway :). Good luck!

Though iv been told the best way to get into cyber security is through network admin or starting off as a IT support. So stuff like that I suppose. Sorry if im being vague.
@@wuyev Nah, it's not vague at all, and that is actually good advice (go through IT support). It's WAY easier to weasel your way into security when you're already working IT, even if you are working help desk. I'll do some thinking and make some videos around this as well as some some 'how-tos'.

Hey, I just looked and I didn't see it has a retirement date. If it gets retired, 100% a new A+ will be created with updated curriculum. A+ is like, _THE_ main entry-level IT cert so they won't remove it completely :P. Most of the old resources will probably still be applicable--there is generally a decent amount of overlap. Thank you so much lol, but it's an illusion. This was actually the first actual video I made with my proper setup. Each segment took me many many many times re-recording it. If you notice, there are always a lot of jump-cuts and editing in my videos. It's because it takes forever for me to say something "correctly". I'm glad it looks alright in the end. You don't necessarily have to take the course, but just the idea of the "12 stats" and the things you should do when trying to get a job in IT will really help a lot. Hello saraniya. If you have a degree already, if you can, I would just move to a metro area and just start applying for jobs. There are so so many! A+ also helps for getting into the field. I know it's hard to move, but your chance of finding a job increase QUITE a bit, and getting that initial experience will really help you in the long run. Thanks for watching :)

I am also 70% done with my bachelors degree in cybersecurity & information assurance, and a secret security clearance. I can not get a entry level position to save my life lol

I'll try to answer in-line: _Is it likely to be able to land remote work being new to this industry?_ I know one thing for sure, it's much more likely now than it was 4 years ago. As long as your Resume/Portfolio is looking good and you apply consistently, your chance aren't bad. _How may hours do you normally work a day? Is it super stressful?_ My job is a really strange job. It's a mixture of Cloud and Software Engineering. I honestly do about 4 hours of "labor" per day on this job and the stress is like a 2/10, maybe even 1/10. You will run into this a lot with Software Engineering at large companies that aren't Amazon, lol.. My Tech jobs were pretty similar, as long as you aren't doing consulting. I'm going to get a helper to help me with editing so I can put out more content, but I'm doing a lot of stuff right now so it's pretty hard haha. But yeah, seriously thank you :)
I've been thinking about this one a lot recently. I even watched a few videos on it. I will probably make a video about it in the future, but to answer your question, so far, it seems quality and seems like a decent place to start. It just doesn't seem to have the presence on indeed etc., but that's kind of expected with most new certs!
If they aren't citizens or permanent residents, no doubt it's going to be harder for them, unfortunately. If you are SUPER skilled though, H1B is possible I guess, but I don't really know about it

Absolutely not! Most of my friends who work in IT don't have degrees. A degree is just one part of the equation and can be easily satisfied with certs or experience. Hope this helps!

Hello Josh, I have an AAS degree in Cybersecurity and recently wanted to go to WGU. The program I chose, the B.sc in IT, requires some certs, but because of my Associate's it looks like the completion requirement for many of the classes has already been met, would you still recommend the degree with no certs despite most of my credits not transferring?
I would probably choose the degree that has the most classes satisfied by your AAS degree, then I would get any certs I cared about afterwards. That's just me though :). (This is actually what I did with my first BS degree, (BSIT))

I recently resigned from my position at a call center, loved the company, loved the colleagues, but the customers weren't so friendly, I know from the start they wouldn't be but it weighed me down. I wanted to get my Bachelor's so I could try to come back to the company (left on great terms), to further qualify me for advanced positions in the future.

Am about to start a course course at a college soon. I want to start with comptia a+ however, there's a bundle course where you can do comptia n+ and cisco routing and switching all at once. My question is do you think it's advisable to study them all at once or is it too much?

The customers are rude as hell and disrespectful. At least as an IT help desk I'd be getting full time hours and some benefits. I know my worth and this isn't it.
I would start applying and make sure you have you resume written with ChatGPT , which is what I did. List all experience u have for IT even if it’s helping friends and family as the dedicated IT guy for them. List out your customer service experience as well , maybe list that your studying for you comptia A+ . I transition from Walmart to a really good entry level job with in the year bro so it’s very do able.
I have a bachelor's in MIS and I'm still looking for work. I just started a job today and my goal is to save up and take a comptia a+ exam. From what I hear it is supposed to give me an overall understanding of IT and serves a good way to decide whether I want to study for cybersecurity. So I'm gonna save money for this. I finished school in 2020, during covid, so I'm pumped about getting the ball rolling again. Wish me luck! 💯🙏🏼
If you have a degree and a job, why would you take the A+? Why not just do a quick review and jump on the CCNA?

For full transparency, I had all my certs before I got married lol. Also, I don't know how to balance anything in my life. I tend to go really HARD in one area. When I do this, all of the other areas really suffer. I've always been like this but have been trying to fix it.

It is not easy. I have been on furlough for over a year by Marriott, in the DC area and have been diligently sending resumes out and had only a handful of interviews. Hospitality and IT field is like day and night. Oracle and some other companies maybe try to bridge the gaps by managing computer software like Micros and others. Also started IT field studies in a community college for over 2 years now and will be going for my Bachelors but … it is an extremely slow process.

It's hard to really give any tailored advice since I don't know your exact situation, but you could try seeing the kind of jobs in your area and manufacturing yourself some experience that match those. Amazing video. I am trying to finish up my a+ currently. I just need the 1002 exam. I graduated with a BA in computer science back in 2003. I changed career paths and went to cooking school and worked in the hotel industry the past 17 years until the pandemic hit. I failed the a+ exams twice. The second time my score was lower than the first on both parts. The exams are bs how they are worded and set up. I waited 6 months in between tries, and i studied the entire time. That was after a year of studying before i took my first try. Im extremely discouraged and i cant afford to take the exams again. I basically had to take out a loan to take them.
Dang, that sucks and I'm really sorry. I find that grinding practice questions helps quite a bit. Then target studying areas that are difficult. Be sure to get some really good practice questions though, like Professor Messers, CBT Nuggets, and any official ones you can find. Careful of random free questions on the internet.

Step 1 get knowledge. Great start. Because no one is going to hire you if you don't have knowledge in THE SPECIFIC AREAS they are hiring for. You'll also need demonstrable experience IN THOSE AREAS.
Step 3 is "make your own experience". How exactly does that work? And wasn't the title "without Experience"? Sure you can do the lab's and tut's... but is it really experience? (Hint: no)
Overall most of your suggestions are 101 "how to get **any** job". And no I didn't watch the entire video, cause... no, you can't get a job in IT with no experience.
I guess we have to define what "experience" is. In this context, I was referring to experience as having worked a job where you had to fill out an i-9/w-2 etc, in an official sense. So yeah, you can definitely get a job in IT without having done this. Someone can get REALLY good at using technology and understanding business processes on their own. Of course, without having worked in an actual corporate environment, even the most technical person will be lacking some nuanced knowledge/experience, but the learning curve will be MUCH less if they have primed themselves before hand with projects and self-study.
As someone who has hired a lot of people and has several employees myself, I can't hire these type of self-starters fast enough 👍

Hey Ayon, no need to get A+ if you plan to jump straight into Net+/Sec+. I believe jobs "requiring" A+ will make an exception if you have N/S, though maybe you won't be applying to those anyway :). Good luck!

@@wuyev Nah, it's not vague at all, and that is actually good advice (go through IT support). It's WAY easier to weasel your way into security when you're already working IT, even if you are working help desk. I'll do some thinking and make some videos around this as well as some some 'how-tos'.

Hey, I just looked and I didn't see it has a retirement date. If it gets retired, 100% a new A+ will be created with updated curriculum. A+ is like, _THE_ main entry-level IT cert so they won't remove it completely :P. Most of the old resources will probably still be applicable--there is generally a decent amount of overlap. Thank you so much lol, but it's an illusion. This was actually the first actual video I made with my proper setup. Each segment took me many many many times re-recording it. If you notice, there are always a lot of jump-cuts and editing in my videos. It's because it takes forever for me to say something "correctly". I'm glad it looks alright in the end. I believed in one of your videos you mentioned being in contact with recruits to get contracts. If you've made a video on this can someone direct me to it, and if not. I would love it if you elaborated on the process of finding a good recruiter... or I guess getting found by a good recruiter. Hello saraniya. If you have a degree already, if you can, I would just move to a metro area and just start applying for jobs. There are so so many! A+ also helps for getting into the field. I know one thing for sure, it's much more likely now than it was 4 years ago. As long as your Resume/Portfolio is looking good and you apply consistently, your chance aren't bad.

My job is a really strange job. It's a mixture of Cloud and Software Engineering. I honestly do about 4 hours of "labor" per day on this job and the stress is like a 2/10, maybe even 1/10. You will run into this a lot with Software Engineering at large companies that aren't Amazon, lol.. My Tech jobs were pretty similar, as long as you aren't doing consulting.

I've been thinking about this one a lot recently. I even watched a few videos on it. I will probably make a video about it in the future, but to answer your question, so far, it seems quality and seems like a decent place to start. It just doesn't seem to have the presence on indeed etc., but that's kind of expected with most new certs!
Would you know if internationals tend to face more difficulties trying to get cyber security jobs in US?
If they aren't citizens or permanent residents, no doubt it's going to be harder for them, unfortunately. If you are SUPER skilled though, H1B is possible I guess, but I don't really know about it

Absolutely not! Most of my friends who work in IT don't have degrees. A degree is just one part of the equation and can be easily satisfied with certs or experience. Hope this helps!

Hello Josh, I have an AAS degree in Cybersecurity and recently wanted to go to WGU. The program I chose, the B.sc in IT, requires some certs, but because of my Associate's it looks like the completion requirement for many of the classes has already been met, would you still recommend the degree with no certs despite most of my credits not transferring?
I would probably choose the degree that has the most classes satisfied by your AAS degree, then I would get any certs I cared about afterwards. That's just me though :). (This is actually what I did with my first BS degree, (BSIT))

I recently resigned from my position at a call center, loved the company, loved the colleagues, but the customers weren't so friendly, I know from the start they wouldn't be but it weighed me down. Im poised to get the job based on my MS degree in Education & BA degree in Psychology and computer experience. I worked as I Physical Health Education Technology Integration Teacher for Gr.
