Well, at least we the audience got the full story.

@@liamphibia Technically the audience could have gotten it by just Davey remembering it afterwards without Davey telling the story. Storywise it had to got the other way.

Alr in Davey’s Defense in this scene he asked whitey multiple times to stop talking about it? Like that’s his business 😭

Honestly, my favorite part of the movie was just seeing the scenes of Davey bonding with Whitey and Eleanor. I just wish Whitey had told Eleanor, "I'll talk to you later."

I sympathize with Davey in this scene, Literally nobody wants to relive the memory of the day that their parents died. In fact I wouldn't have blamed Davey had he just straight up told Whitey to shut up about it. I mean he may have told Whitey a number of times to stop but I'm talking hypothetically if Davey yelled at Whitey to shut up.
Although Whitey did have a point when he said that Davey didn't know how to handle finding out about his parents deaths, Because as he said how is a 12 year old kid supposed to just cope with something like that? Plus it was evident that everyone in Dukesberry saw Davey as a lost cause, Because thanks to his reputation no one ever tried to help Davey properly cope with his loss.
But it probably wouldn't have mattered anyway, Because for people like Davey no amount of therapy or emotional support could ever fill the empty void that he had in his heart after his parents died.
And when I hear Whitey say that Davey walked from foster home to foster home, The way he said that makes me think that Davey probably became such a juvenile delinquent after this that he probably kept getting kicked out of foster homes, Until he aged out of the system.

I know right? That part always bothered me because Davey was in the right to get angry because Whitey told HIS story despite him telling him to stop.

Poor Davey and Jennifer, I’m sure Davey’s parents raised him better than all the bad things he’s been doing in his adulthood. And so sad Jennifer and Davey stopped talking to each other and she moved to another town with her mom and had a son with another man who left them both for some woman he met on the internet.

    • @Eye_Of_Odin978
      @Eye_Of_Odin978 11 місяців тому +7

They partially raised him, but didn't get to see the task through to the end.
That was probably worse for Davey than anything. He didn't even get to finish developing as a child before losing them.
It wasn't about what they taught him after that, it was just about his pain. He didn't wanna act out all the time, but in a world that moves on with or without you when tragedy strikes, nobody was there to really unpack all of Davey's trauma and unheard feelings over his parent's demise.
The whole point of the film is for Whitey to help Davey get past all the untouched trauma and destruction in his life and for Davey to open up and be less destructive in turn, helping out Whitey at the end get the recognition he deserved for being a pillar of the community for years.

It really does suck that Davey lost his parents and it makes a little sense in why he would shut down and become an asshole but Whitey should’ve shut up when told to stop talking about it the first time. Nobody ever wants to relive a traumatic memory period and openly talking about it is gonna do anything but make that person feel better. Unpopular opinion but, Davey had every right to be pissed at Whitey and Eleanore.

To be fair,If Davey read his parents’ card after his parents death in a car crash,he would’ve never evolved into a troublesome, obnoxious, miserable, cynical, bitter, and lawbreaking jackass who takes his anger and torment out on anyone and make them just as miserable as he is.
Also, the movie could’ve been better if they made everyone more worse than Davey and gave him more justified reasons and flashbacks on why he became such a unpleasant,mean-spirited,and troublemaking jerk with a criminal record towards everyone after his parents death.
Also, for Whitey, I kinda feel on his defense,he should’ve never made Davey act rude and snap at him and Eleanor after he made him brought up his sad backstory that made him so uncomfortable and I do agree Whitey had every right to evict Davey from his house anymore since he lost his temper and mocked and insulted him and his sister,Eleanor, even in front of Jennifer, his childhood sweetheart.

They said it themselves in the team huddle, he'd have to take every shot all the time.
He was nicer back then and just wanted to have fun with his friends, judging by his reaction when Jennifer says "you'd have to take all the shots"
He seems hesitant to do so and only gets on board with it when all of his teammates agree with the plan.

Ignoring the trauma of losing one or both parents at a young age (Life is Strange handles it better, imo), I’m wondering where Davey gets his money despite having no visible form of employment. A monthly check from the state?
