That was a really wonderful tour, and i've seen many. Well done and best wishes for your restructuring work. I also have no winter since emigrating from UK.
Susan Hills Yeah. Temps dropped this week. Getting around 10 to 13 highs here in Lincolnshire. But back up to low to mid 20s by end of next week. But like I said, this is spring temps. We should be getting much higher mid Summer.
I just love your videos. You've inspired me to start a small container garden on our back deck up here in New Hampshire, USA. To keep costs down, using rain gutters to grow leaf lettuce, an assortment of lid missing Tupperware, buckets, and trash cans to grow tomatoes, peppers, bush beans, mini eggplant, potatoes, and french carrots. It's coming along so well that my hubby is talking about getting us a Birdies raised bed for next year! YES!!!
Here I sit behind my monitor at midnight with some microwave sausage patties. Watching this guy with all his plants really makes me want to feed myself better.
Hello Mark. I live in Michigan and your gardening tips have help me with my garden. I know it’s not the same climate, but most of your tips are the best. You are my main gardening channel. Hope to see lots of garden updates and tips this year. Stay Safe.
Hey Luke, I live 300km north of Mark, in Queensland Australia. Used to work with a bloke from Michigan, top bloke. Used to tell me about Michigan, beautiful place, got to go and have a look one day. Peace 👍
Mitchell Schreiter I love all of the first time gardens. Mark inspires me to go big or go home. His info is good, you just have to adapt it to the season. Hot or cold. 🤣
I am growing some sweet beans and they all started to have blighted leaves like my tomato's. One web commentator said they might be short on Supfur, so I put my Blueberry's elemental Sulfur down and the new growth is all clear of blight. Perhaps hay/mulch gardens can be low on Sulfur. Put some under my potted capsicum and bullocks heart tomato as their leaves were blighting too. And the new leaves there are solid green now too!
I’m only five minutes into the video and I’m already impressed by the number of volunteer plants: lettuce, tomatoes, mustard, etc, it’s almost like you don’t need to do any gardening . :)
I want to say a big thank you for your videos. I used to garden a lot as a child but somehow forgot along the way of growing up that it was a passion of mine. This pandemic brought me back to the soil, and now caring for my little garden has become the best part of my day. Your videos have been a major help to me in re-training my green thumb, and they've also doubled as a nice distraction when things have gotten too much in the world. Thank you so much! :)
If you want to grow extra time. I recomend schedules. Time managment on the farm is critical. As a market gardener i schedule things pretty close so i can have time off now and then. Lol
Hey Mark we live in Florida so we have the same climate , but opposite times of the year we now are getting into summer and this is the first year we are planting a garden thank you for the tips !!!! Karl and Lori B. !!!!
New gardener in central Florida. I'm taking notes on what will grow next season 😊 I'm hopeful for the plants I'm growing currently, started them a few months late. I didn't know, but I do now. I hope your plants do well.
Hi to both of you 👋 I’m in treasure coast myself. make sure to try sweet potatoes, Seminole Pumpkin, Seminole tomatoes and Malabar spinach. Here in Fl, they do great!
G'day ... Here on the other side of the world it's about the same weather right now ... Washington State coast ... Summer might get up to a balmy 80°f ... But not for long ... Save the punky wood to add fill to the new beds ... All mine are in pots as I don't have a yard ... Just a gravel parking lot ... Onion ... Garlic ... Mushrooms ... Chives ... Mint ... Corn ... Crook neck squash ... Potato ... Tomato ... Sweet peppers ... Strawberry ... Raspberries ...
James Witte I have hand pollinated before. When the bees were stressed out, they were not doing their job. I wasn’t getting anything so I had the bright idea to hand pollinate. The bees are looking good this year though.
I started my urban vege garden a year ago and learned so much. I am based in South Africa so our seasons coincide. I love your videos. They are not only instructive, but you always make me laugh :)
8:25 this is a great tip for intermediate gardeners. I never want to thin or move a guy that's happy growing. But sometimes you just gotta rip them out to grow more stuff for the proper season This is especially affordable when you've been collecting seeds for some seasons. Awesome vids as always mark.
Amazing variety's mate, the garden is looking amazing! I have to admit you do make us jelous with the crazy stuff you can grow on the other side of the pond! Cheers from a UK gardener! 👍😀
Oh wow. I'm not too far from yourself ... out in Ipswich but we drop quite a bit here. We'll definitely start getting frosty nights heading into winter and if Stanthorpe have copped a cold day, we feel it here. My poor basil almost had a heart attack a few weeks ago but I got him inside in time. 😁 Other than that, I've got the rest of the herbs ready with framed frost/wind protection setup. 👍🌿
Love your channel & ‘fair dinkum’ which I have to look up every time for meaning! I’m in Northern California where we’ve had some 100 degree days F. Take care
I have a pea recommendation. We grow a few of the traditional peas in our spring and fall but the one that we love to grow in the spring is called "Wando". It is a heat tolerant variety that we are able to grow into a bit of our summer extending our pea harvest for a bit longer. We live in central Georgia in the States and have a wicked long summer season but those Wando will grow for a good 3-6 weeks longer than the traditional peas. Love your videos, wife giggles at me each time she hears your intro. God Bless
Hello I am a first time planter of vegetables. I enjoy your videos and do try some of your suggestions. Thank you very much. Marcia from the Island of Trinidad and Tobago.
Ha ! Youre correct about a British Summer ( Im British ) However I'm in the same climate and was feeling at a loss with the cold weather. Thank you Mark !
Brilliant stuff. Kale is growing fabulous right now and it's even in a shaded spot. On the western side of the house I've got a bunch of Japanese radish, lettuce and carrots... All growing amazingly vigorously. Love the range of plants you've got going and it's a great testiment to how easy it is to grow a decent range of food plants over this time. Inspiring stuff. Keep up the videos, loving it. It's great to see my friends trying their hand at doing a little growing themselves and I have shared these videos with them to also inspire them. It seems to be working.
I am a new backyard fruit and veggie grower - I have been watching a video or 2 of Mark's each day and all I can say is he has "the skills to pay the bills". I can't believe how much I have learned in just a few days. Thanks a lot Mark .... I am glad I found your channel.
Hey mark! Just wanted to say thanks heaps mate for all the inspiration over these covid times. Since watching ya videos ive set up a decent vegtable garden for myself and am continulaly working towards my dream of setting up some acarage in cairns in the following year or so. Keep it up, your influence deffinitly inspires some of us younger generation who i feel are losing touch with our roots ( no pun intended )
What a lot of work you are doing Mark. It's hard t o believe it will be even better than before. Thank you for all the great advice. I always look forward to your videos.
Ay big fella, what you wanna be doing is getting a barrel cutting some holes in it and making a damn good fire mate, nothing better than a few brews and a nice fire in winter, good time to grab the missus and burn off all the shit. Keep up the good work from you south mates here in Illawarra.
Awesome video Mark from another Mark. That is going to get old I know but so are we hahaha 😂 ok I'll stop now. Man I wish we didn't get some cold in the winter well some times we can. Have a good night from Texas
I'm not much of a gardener or anything, but my dad showed me your channel and I have to say I love it. It's like watching a video from a friend, you have a wonderful personality! Much love ❤️
Hiya Mark , love your channel , I am on the south coast of NSW , my neighbours have been growing and giving me chokos, and as I’m the only one of my family that likes them , several of them had started to shoot ! . I came home from work the other day and my son said that he had planted the triffids! We’ll just have to see how they go , we do get the odd frost here .. never know ! But goodness there’s 4 or 5 plants !!
I've been watching for at least 6 months now and Mark has given me so many ideas that I'm implementing this summer in North Carolina. He inspired me to build my own raised beds and experiment with what may be considered unorthodox veggies in the southern US. I have tripled my growing space over winter and am trying stuff I never would have had the courage or curiosity to do without this channel. Love every new vid, and I'm grateful for Mark and his epic hobby.
Thanks for the tour Mark. Our temperature range at the moment in Darwin is around 19 to 32. Too warm for a lot plants, have given up on normal coriander, but the sawtooth variety is doing ok. Other plants are thriving - sweet potato, rock melon, water melon, zucchini, snake beans... mostly using raised beds because our soil is so poor. Lock down has given me the time to go hard in the garden... enjoying your channel!
You're growing in a similar climate as mine except I get much more rain and it is 10-15°F cooler. Thank you for the garden update and keep up the great work.
I am glad that I discover your channel , you inspire me to turn my little balcony to vegetable garden, now I am growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, fresh onions and enjoy eating them everyday. greetings from istanbul - turkey.
We are warmer during winter here in the Philippines but our main problem is rain. We have just entered our rainy season and have planted accordingly. But winter, finding crops that don't require much water can be tricky.
Thanks Mark! this is great! really was a bit lost as to what to plant in subtropical winter here in réunion island. This is really helpful! wishing you a good day!
New deck looks great, mate! I just salvaged some wood from a renovation at work... I've made two raised beds and a ladder for my chicken coop so far! Building is so much fun!
Here in America's south-east sounds like we have a similar climate, only difference is you have an Ocean between you and Antarctica which is a weather moderator, while we have a huge Canadian landmass between us and the Arctic which is a big cold collector and produces fast moving cold fronts, which produces hard frost (we call them Alberta Clippers, which also makes us the Tornado Capital of the world in the Summer).
Mark, you’re an absolute legend. When you post a new video, we put it up on the tv and watch it as a household and always love your tips. Cheers for sharing all your knowledge and love of experiments with us all
Thanks Mark, I live just down the road to Toowoomba. Have put in raised beds over the last 6 months and your advice has served us well. Great content. Cheers mate
Good day! And thank you so much for taking the time and energy to share your valuable information. Please send more information about how to store seeds once you harvest them and how you plant them once they come out of storage. Do you soak them, refridgerate them, etc? THANKS!!!
Mark I'm a local near you , I got an absoloute tone of chokos off my vine the last few weeks , being a chef I brought home a lot of salmon an trout heads an bones an placed them in the beds too decompose, Iv got a feeling they're the success too my choko an tomatoes! Love the update keep them coming neighbor .
I am at Pine Mountain (Qld) and you have inspired my wife and I to create raised garden beds. We are currently organising our soil/s, mushroom compost manure and mulch. The worm farm has been commenced as well. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for making the effort to share your knowledge and experience. Thanks so much.
We're just West of Ipswich, towards Toowoomba and we're growing Kale, carrots, eggplant, lettuce, bok choy, wombok, peas, snow peas, beetroot, silverbeet, radishes, and more broccolini than we can possibly eat. We have some zucchini and cucumber coming along but I think a frost will eventually get them. Our garden is exceeding our expectations, thanks mark for giving us the motivation to get into it.
We grow the white Japanese turnips (Hakurei). They are excellent raw, sliced as crudités or browned in olive oil and then braised with a few of the greens. One of our favorite vegetables. I’m in Southern California (zone 10a) and our temperatures are about the same as yours although in opposite seasons. And quite a bit drier in terms of humidity. Average rainfall is about 15” (38 cm)/yr.
Yes, the lettuce just keeps coming. In fact, until last week, it was almost bolting! I’ve let one go to seed to collect them for next year but there are new lettuce filling the gaps. Great to see some local inspiration. Cheers
We live 85km south of Darwin and have planted many things that we have seen in your videos, it’s great to see how your plants are doing so we can compare ours. Feel better about our kangkong and turmeric now after seeing yours Cheers mate
You have inspired me to start a small container garden in my backyard. I have large oak trees so its been difficult to find a place that gets sun at least 6 hrs a day. Fortunate or unfortunate my next door neighbor cut down a strip of woods between us and now i have a sun spot to grow veggies. I have 16 pots with 10 now growing beans sweet potatoes and russets potatoes plus beets and spinach. I have peppers and tomatoes yet to plant. Thank you so much for showing the possibilities.
Mark, have you tried to grow okra? It's a subtropical plant, so it's supposed to grow well out there. I was trying to grow it in Victoria, but it definitely needs more sun time and warmth.
Summer here in Northern Nevada. Going to get 5 degrees below freeing for the next few nights. We don't have a last and first frost date because we can get snow any time of year. I put stuff out anyway. In ground I'll have to cover with sheets and towels. Containers get hauled into the garage and garden shed.

Perfect. Classic move

I had to laugh. When you gave the temperature range for your Winter I thought that's just the same as our Summers. Yes! I am in the UK 😄

Well. More like our mid to late Spring weather. Typically in the midlands where I live. Summer will be 20s and even get up to high 30s

Wait, I need a video of your seed organizer!! Or more time over it! I love how organized it is even though you only showed 2 seconds of it!
You so cute
Your channel is always relaxing and informative
Ok, he’s got a filing system for his seeds!! I love that. It appeals to my gardening side and my organisation side.

Containers are really amazing. My family had low expectations then a few dozen 10oz tomatoes later they're all in
Beautiful! It’s work but I’m on a planting craze in Northern California. 🤷♀️♥️
I get so excited when You upload. I like your humor and i like the way you film. Thank You For giving me so many useful tips!
Was about to go to bed, it's 12:41 am here in trinidad... But can't hit the sack without watching a new upload from SSM!

there is one way, you have to quit your job

Cheers
We got a raw deal, I'm only a couple hours from Bris and we frost regularly. Already had 3 :( coldest we've recorded from memory was -8
I live in Toowoomba and since were already getting 3°C mornings, I imagine winter is going to get frost. 🥶
Well we have had a few frosts but Stanthorpe is known for that. Not that far from Brisbane either.
-8!!!! That is too cold for Qld! Ripped off!
Grow apples
That's our summer temp here in Canada, Mark 😂 Ow well.. Enjoyed the video. As always, very inspiring and entertaining 👌
Gorgeous deck!
We live 85km south of Darwin and have planted many things that we have seen in your videos, it’s great to see how your plants are doing so we can compare ours. Feel better about our kangkong and turmeric now after seeing yours
Cheers mate
Egyptian spinach is amazing. I have 3rd generation seed ready to go for late spring
I'm so envious that you get to grow things in the winter. Not possible where I live, so it's justI another reason I enjoy your videos.
Mark, have you tried to grow okra? It's a subtropical plant, so it's supposed to grow well out there. I was trying to grow it in Victoria, but it definitely needs more sun time and warmth.
There is definitely an okra video on this channel from a few years ago @MrSlavaoat
