I’m an expat Scot (Scone is my home place) living in Canada and I took my Canadian sister with me to explore the Highlands following the Outlander tour which the books and tv show has just exploded our love of our homeland. I’ve watched several of your videos and find them absolutely intriguing. So much more info than you get from a tour. Love it. Keep up the good work and give me more more more…. Thank you.

Tony, You should suggest to the powers that be... Edinburgh should have an International Museum of Fire Fighting Brigades and a memorial for all firefighters, A museum exhibiting The World's commitment to public safety which started in Edinburgh. A Uniquely inspiring permanent venue for your city.

I went to Edinburgh last month with 4 other ladies and used many interesting facts about shortcuts and sights to see that I had learned from you. We stayed on the bottom third of the Royal Mile which was wonderful. We all tried the Haggis with whiskey sauce and loved it. Many thanks for helping me prep for my trip.

The village's location became the reason why Hafnia became so popular and the herring fishery in the Baltic and the associated trade, was why it thrived economically... Copen - Hagen derives from Købe - Havn translates to, Buy - Harbor, buying/trading at the Harbor hello from Denmark 🌸
Very interesting! It seems that Copenhagen and Edinburgh have very similar time frames; Edinburgh became the capital of Scotland in 1437 and Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in 1445. In terms of the history of Edinburgh, it's known that there has been human habitation in the area for about 10,000 years (approx. 8,500 BCE). In the 1st century CE, the Romans recorded a tribe called the Votadini who lived there. They later became the Gododdin Kingdom in the Early Middle Ages (400s-500s), with Eidyn serving as the main fort. The 'city' later became a royal burgh under King Dauíd mac Maíl Choluim in the early 1100s - Eidyn becoming Edinburgh. It's from this time that the oldest building in Edinburgh dates - St Margaret's Chapel in Edinburgh Castle.

What is it with the Scots and elephants? The Duke of Argyle captains (or maybe captained) an elephant polo team (Chivas Regal Scotland) that competes thrice yearly, and won the World Elephant Polo Championship in consecutive years, 2004 & 2005.
As you know, the US is a mere babe compared to the UK. My Scottish ancestors came from what was once known as Ross Shire, through Canada and my grandpa settled in Detroit. My dad settled us in Chicago. So our Illinois capital, Springfield was founded 10th of April, 1821. 😮

That would be the Tooley Street fire at Cotton Wharf in 1861. It was the biggest fire in London since the the Great fire in 1666. Braidwood actually died in this fire when an unsafe wall of a building collapsed trapping him under the rubble. It took rescuers two days to locate him. The fire took two weeks to extinguish.

I married a girl from Edinburgh, while meeting her family ( while on holiday ) her brother took me on a tour of the city. He told me that when the construction of a building was in progress they come across a burial ground , the city gave them permission to have the move it to the top of the building . I wonder can this be true ??

Just curious, which London fire were you thinking of? Because the "Great" fire was a couple of centuries earlier.
I may have got mixed up with fires..... not a historian as I like to remind people.
