Dude! I've done powder coating for years and for your first time you've done a great job .... Period! The pit from rubbing the wheel lipid no problem! Just reheat and go over it again.
No big deal. Great job. Red lug nuts are fine.
No should have waited a little longer to mount the tires.
Have patience brother. Your doing great bud. Just need to wait between applications. She's got it down.
Good going from A&J Truck and Equipment repair. Deland, Fla.

That red is perfect, i think you should put black center caps and white calipers matching with the snow theme of the car if not blue would be good also. Your X look mean now whith those red details.

Good job! Your oven is probably off. Mine is 30 off. People watching, use your temperature gun. Powder will flow out around 370 but you will have no way of knowing the actual part temp. You can over bake your finish if the temperature is too hot. I didn't lower my temp on a wrinkle finish to 400. I ended up baking the part for 20 mins at 450 which was actually 480 because my oven is off. It made a satin black finish when it was supposed to be wrinkle black! So, I got to strip the part and do my prep again. Just a little advice for beginners.

  • @robertprice9052
    @robertprice9052 4 роки тому

Don't go by time in the oven to hot coat, go by part temp. I find that 100 degrees works well for me. Also if you will sink an actual "earth ground" rod in the ground to attach to your part you will see a big change in the coating. Most shop and house grounds are hardly adequate to stop a fire.
also, build a wheel holder so you can coat all sides. I used a few steel plates and some allthread rod.
    Wheels look awesome! great job!

The red wheels look fantastic. I would suggest black lug nuts and powder coating the brake callipers yellow with the black Brembo stickers. You should also get a front splitter to match the side and rear splitters.

  • @JustOutHereTinkering

Use the infrared on the black area of the barrel to test the temp, because infrared temp guns don't work on reflective surfaces and you are trying to get the temp of chrome.... won't work.

Only thing as someone with some experience in spraying powder coating (tons of wheels included) that I would have added- clear coat! It adds more sheen and highlights that 2 stage pass thru color combo. It also adds a lot of protection with them being possible contact with road debris.

The issue you are having with the powder sticking is due to the layers of powder coat. If you had the dual voltage gun. You put it on its higher setting and it'll work better. Also helps to have an actual ground hooked to the piece that is ran to the ground.

Funny watching u have the same problems I had when powder coating rims at home. The more paint that’s on the rim the longer it takes to get to temperature, with the rim being powder coated b4 and then again it takes awhile to heat up in our garage ovens.i actually made a false door for the front of my stove because 19” and up I wasn’t able to shut the door. And the problem with paint not sticking I found that if I wire brushed or sanded the spot where you put your clip the powder stuck a lil better as long as the rim was warm .I found the same as you, too hot and powder would start flowing on the rim immediately to cool and it won’t stick.I started coating when the rim was about 120-140 degrees and that worked better.Learning as I go but had all the problems you had and then sum,try 2 tone on a rim and taping it all off with hi temp tape and have a bubble or lint screw it all up! Sucks spending hours to redo.Parasmatic powder is the shit thats the same place I order from.Anyway rims turned out sweet there illusion two step creates some sick colors keep it up.

This person is bursting with super experience , knowledge ability but please slow the roll.

You should look into their illusion series of powders, good stuff. It does the same.as this with just a base and a clear. The base sprays on a silvery color like silvery red. When it wets out it turns chrome. Then you spray on the clear top coat. When the clear wets out it pulls the color our. There is less effort trying to get an even coat of candy. It is very forgiving. I did an ar15 in their illusion purple. Video on my channel of the rifle.

About the comment of running the plain chrome. I’ve always thought of the idea of having 4 rims with 2 separate colors. Then you do, in this case, red on the front and chrome on the back for one side and then on the on the other side, you run the same but red would be on the back.
