      Bad idea for 2 reasons. 1 weight distribution. Can't really split the board. 2 it's hard to put batteries like that in parallel. With designs like this you need the battery protection board really close to the cell. It's a bad idea to use 2 boards in parallel. So you would have to use one but that means if the cable going through the top band shorts out you have no protection so fire risk.
      Just not worth it. Also it's 1500mah. Is that not big enough?

    Great example of a product being built to suit a target market and not adding functionality that isn’t needed.

      ANC doesnt really stop speak as far as i noticed, its only good for noise thats somewhat repeating, like water heater bubbling, washing machine and pc fans whirring. theyre great in a train but you will hear mom calling (tried: Cleer audio enduro ANC, Korg NC-Q1)

      I have those and believe me, you won't hear your mom anyway because those ear pads isolate you pretty well. I can barely hear myself speaking when wearing them which can get a little exhausting over time but thankfully the software let's you feed your mic input into your headphones.

      On the other hand, anything above 20 hours is overkill. Wireless headphones don't really need much more battery life while wireless earbuds desperately need more battery life since they often last only 6 hours.

    I wouldn't cut any points for needing to solder. If you have to pull those wires through the housing (which I have had to do on headphones before) you will end up needing to remove the connectors and that is going to make repair WAY harder.
    Also, those wires look easy to solder. A beginner wouldn't have much trouble.
    Regarding needing to replace the battery. I'd expect the battery to out last the headphones.
    For context. 10 years ago when I was still kind of new to soldering. I replaced the battery in some 2008 era Sony headphones (forgot the model but they are around here somewhere). Not only did I replace it but I upgraded it from about 350mah to I think 500mah. Was no trouble at all cutting a bit of plastic out to make room and soldering on that board was easy. The headphones in this video look even easier to solder.

      Would the battery even need to be replaced with wear and tear apart from manufacturing problems. One recharge can easily last a month or even more for normal usage. 60 recharges is like 5 years. That's same amount of recharges you'd be doing in 4-5 months of other wireless headphones. It's literally the best innovation

      @Sparky400 2 роки тому

      @@FirstnameLastName-mr8lk I guess but they don't allways seem to rate things like that. Like difficult repair vs not repairable. Also I'd still not call this difficult. It's repair. Are you really expecting to not need any tools? Is that the goal/benchmark?

      Still. One cell. Very few people are likely to have an issue.

    Honestly I wouldn't say a replaceable battery matters in this case. Even if the battery degrades to only holding 10% charge it will still have a 30 hour battery life. To get down to an "unacceptable" battery life of just a few hours it would be at 1% to 2%. Even with careful handling and use I doubt the wear components of the headphones like the ear cups, hinges, and headband would still be in usable condition by that point.

    • @swecreations
      @swecreations 2 роки тому +29

      Thing is lithium batteries from my experience usually go down to about 50% (+-20%) and then quickly die off. No doubt a bigger battery will last longer, but not by as much as you think.

    • @QualityDoggo

    • @mattymerr701
      @mattymerr701 2 роки тому +2

      @@swecreations It absolutely will. but there are some big factors that will change it such as how you charge, when, and for how long.
      Heat is the big killer and the issues with batteries seemingly dying super quick after a certain percent is more to do with the fuel gauge not having a proportional output.
      Trying to measure charge percent is super non-trivial.

      2:19 It uses bluetooth (which also runs on 2.4 GHz with 1 MHz spectrum and FHSS).
      Most headphones have a PCB onboard antenna, but this has a IPEX antenna connector and that can make it more efficient too (if it‘s a 3dBi antenna instead of a -0.5dBi antenna, it already needs half power for transmitting).

    Another unusual thing is that it has a IPEX antenna connector. This means that this thing doesn‘t need as much transmitting power (Bluetooth is TDD and sends data in both directions), at least with a high EIRP.

      That's assuming the battery is perfect out of the box and not defective. Or that it doesn't become damaged by any number of factors.
      A replaceable battery would still prevent some headphones from going to the landfill in the long run, and that's a good thing.
      "Worst case scenario" is you get a set of headphones that last another 50 years. Give 'em to your grandkids and let them marvel at the retro headphones.

    • @TheSpotify95
      @TheSpotify95 2 роки тому +5

      Li-Ion batteries will eventually degrade over time, but it's (a) the amount of current drawn, and (b) the number of charge/discharge cycles, that determines how long your battery will last before it needs replacing. With a super low current draw, the number of charge cycles will be minimized (300 hour battery life is so cool!) and therefore the battery won't need replacing as quickly.
      In contract, my Corsair Void RGB headphones are (or were) a different story - rated up to 16 hours, but no way of turning off the LEDs without proprietory software meant 5-6 hours runtime at most. That resulted in a large amount of charge cycles, and as such the battery life deteriorated quickly (I have had to replace the battery in those, and they could do with another battery replacement).

    Why are they so efficient? Are there any drawbacks?
    I mean... you need a processing chip for the audio, a circuit to drive the drivers and the drivers themself. That's it, right?
    They use the newest, most efficient audio processing chip. But so do many other manufacturers. The drivers can't really be optimized. They just need an certain ammount of power.
    They have a larger battery, but not a 10 to 15 times larger one.
    Do they cut down on audio processing? Isn't there a massive quality loss due to this low power consumption?
    If it would be so easy, other manufacturers would have done 300h+ headphones too. A larger battery is essentially free for them and the larger battery life would be an selling point that would more than compensate for it. So either, there has to be another, magic tech voodo trick not shown in this video or they are cutting down on audio quality. Or am I missing something?

    • @smwsmwsmw
      @smwsmwsmw 2 роки тому

      Lower impedance drivers actually require more current (Ohm's law) at lower voltage to produce the same power as a higher impedance driver. But since power is what we're after here, the impedance doesn't matter. I'm assuming the audio amplifier is optimized for the particular driver used in these phones.

      CFL light). So in theory, it can run this headphone at around 1/3 uptime.

    you need to test ANC in quiet and deliberately noisy environments. it sounds gret to not chanrge the phones for 2 weeks but im sure they would fail on other things, comfort, and sound quality which disqualifies them, at least from my list. another very big saving is the fact they are not bluetooth, are they? they got their own dongle, meaning no inefficiencies with the bluetooth stack. id immagine it just dumps the audio into the air and same backward, and it either gets there or not.

It's already very comfortable to me anyway and battery life was one of the frustrating things about my previous wireless headset. For my use case this is amazing.
      I do understand for people who are after ultimate comfort, that may have been a good option, but i doubt much weight can be saved by using a smaller battery as I understand most of the weight comes from the drivers and the frame.

    Can I replace a battery in my headphones with a higher capacity one and still expect it to charge and work flawlessly? Without changing the power management circuit ofc.
    I have the CorsairVirtuoso RGB SE. While it has about 20h of battery life, I saw that there would be enough room for 3 batteries, while still leaving almost as much room for the speakers.

      I am thinking to buy same headset but a lot of reviewers said sound is not that good for $200 headset

    •  2 роки тому

      @@iraklimgeladze5223 Depends on the review. The soundquality of the headset is preatty amazing for a gaming headset, but you have to set the equalizer right. The base profile sound muffeled. Setting an custom equalizer is a must on every headset or headphones yet so many people ignore it or do not know it.
      The microphone quality is amazing with the non SE version. With the SE version, it may depend on the revision. I bought it at release and the larger microphone essentially was too overkill. It sounds good, but not as clear as other headsets. Apparently, they released a revision later on that improved the microphone quality of the SE by a large bit. But I can't confirm it, since nobody mentiones the revisions in their reviews.
      They also released a new version that adds bluetooth support. But that drives the price up to 250 USD, which is quite hefty. But overall, I say it is till a great headset for that price. The only critique I have is that the earcups might not be comfortable for everybody. They are relatively small and the entire headset is closed, like most gaming headsets. Meaning that it gets quite warm underneath the earcups.

      @ wait not all of them support Bluetooth?

    •  2 роки тому +1

      @@iraklimgeladze5223 No. There are three versions.
      The Virtuoso RGB Wireless, the Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE and the Virtuoso RGB Wireless XT.
      All versions are wireless via an USB dongle and can also be used thedered via USB or 3.5mm.
      The SE version is better than the non SE version. It is made out of aluminium instead of plastic and has a larger microphone (which originally was worse, but they apparently fixed it). The XT version is even better and supports bluetooth in addition to wireless or thedered.
      I can't tell if it is possible to use multiple input sources at once, if you want to use it e.g on your pc and smartphone simultaneously.
      The standard version costs 179USD, the SE version 209 USD and the XT version 269 USD. You might find them cheaper. I bought my SE for 180 during a sale.
      They are expensive, but they are also good gaming headsets. However, i find the pricetag for the XT version a bit too high.
