If you see the word "secret" in a topic, you can immediately be sure that it's a hobbyist or a beginner on YT trying to get a few extra views.
Once I saw them say RC-20 was the biggest secret... I was done. Lol.
I'm a retired engineer, used to work for one of the big four as a house engineer when such things existed, then moved into post. I've always found 99% of the best engineers would be more than happy to share whatever techniques they had discovered. Maybe it's different in the days of the internet and audio engineering schools (we came up via a sort of apprentice scheme) but competitiveness like this was considered being an arsehole. Sure, everyone WAS competitive, but in a friendly way.
If there's one thing I don't need, it's another saturation plugin
Fact
True
💯
Too many people sleep on Kush Audio plugins and its criminal. Their AR-1 compressor is elite.
Along with Fuse Audio Lab, when it comes to analog emulation Greg's stuff is surely top tier
I sleep on them because of the horrendous stupid weed innuendo. 🤣
What next “flying tiger audio” stupid f****** names of companies. I can’t take seriously. 😂
@ I get it. But Greg from Kush seems like a genuinely cool guy. He has given away SO much quality knowledge on his UA-cam channel. If you haven’t given it a chance, I’d recommend it.
@@rowegardner9673I’m really planning to move to his plugins
True Iron is one of favorite plugins ever!
I've mixed for years without using a saturation plugin, and I find it puzzling why so many people are captivated by tools that add only marginal improvements. In my experience, distortion adds 1% to a mix. If anything it’s for adding a form of compression to smooth transient spikes…
What I really want to see is a focus on editing within the production process. There should be more discussions about game-changing editing plugins and the often painstaking process of obtaining good takes from artists. It's crucial to address issues like acoustic guitar finger noise while tracking, rather than leaving it to be 'fixed in the mix.'
Moreover, I believe engineers should assist artists in making their songs more engaging through thoughtful production. This essential part of the process often gets overlooked.
It seems that too much content on platforms like UA-cam revolves around overhyped plugins that have been discussed endlessly, which can be uninspiring. I'm eager to see advancements in tools like Vocalign that incorporate the editing capabilities of Melodyne, and plugins that can accurately quantize guitars or vocals. With the advent of AI, it’s time for innovation in these areas.
for undergroudn styles of music its good some saturation on the mix
Spot on....looks like everybody thinks there is the holy grail plugin that automatically makes it sound pro
love Kush audio and Kazrog, always in my template!
Same
A couple that seem really dope to me that arent on this list: UAD Ampex and Softube Tape
But those are not secret plugins.
@@if2086none of them are
@@if2086that baby audio taip is fire though, waiting for another sale
Another one is Output Thermal, crazy plugin
Phoenix all the way, I’ve tested all the others including with plugin doctor and it uses some very clever algos.
if you really want a "hush-hush" saturation plugin then you gotta go with Ploytec's Aroma which is super underrated. some of these plugins ain't a secret especially the RC-20 which sounds lowkey dated now. you didn't mention Wavesfactory's Spectre which I think is more underrated than the RC-20 tbh.
Spectre is everywhere now including a lot of sessions on UA-cam. Definitely not underrated in the mixing world
@ yeah spectre's out there but i feel like rc-20 way more known compared to spectre yet he mentions that it's still a "secret".
Big al.. sorted
I used AC1 for years; always loved it.
Once you really start learning how to mix, you realize that plug-ins are not really the answer, they can add some extra flair, but if your mixing fundamentals aren't there, these plug-ins aren't gonna do shit for you.
I mix with mostly stock plug-ins now, I get a better sound than I ever did using all kinds of expensive plug-ins because I actually know what I'm doing for the most part.
I love analog emulation plug-ins, and i do love getting new plug-ins, but the truth is no plug-in is a producer's secret weapon, they would create just as good mixes with purely stock stuff, plug-ins are for added flair and polish.
I discover secret mixing techniques by accident all the time because when you start to understand mixing by knowing the fundamentals, you can hear what they are doing on their mixes and easily emulate.
My most recent discovery? Way fatter 808s by using a distortion that's being controlled by the amplitude of the 808 in the inverse, it will stop the distortion from clipping the transient, while distorting heavier and heavier as the 808 fades out, making it smack super hard all throughout. You can do this in shaperbox by adding a distortion module, cranking it up, then adding an envelope and setting the amount to minus 100%. You'll hear the initial transient come through and then the 808 will distort super clean as it plays.
Call me weird, but I love using plugins that have a nice interface with knobs. I use Reaper, which I love, but their stock plugins are so boring. They do a nice job, but I've spent so much money trying to get the look that I'm actually in a studio. It makes mixing so much more fun.
Wow, you did some serious research. Impressive!
Good suggestions. But RC-20 is probably the farthest from being a secret. Its over rated if anything. Lol.
Phoenix II for VST 3 x64 on PC's? As a Crane Song HEDD user, I'm there. It's been in beta since last April, but I can confirm it does work.
I love using the Strymon Deco plugin for tape saturation. I don’t know if it sounds like any particular tape machine, but it does wonders for any instruments. Plus it’s a lot less expensive than the pedal lol.
>video about plugins
>no sound examples
That's why I'm googling the price and watching videos on these plugins. You're right, I'd like to see them in use right here.
Phoenix 2 is 449,- USD for one plugin. OK. I'll have to pass on that. But there are quite a few interesting alternatives you mentioned here. Thanks for the list.
so basically you listed all the most popular saturation... these videos are like the thumbnail... a joke. LOL
at least you get a list of all the saturation plugins worth trying, in one place.
@@galgogergo there is no "worth trying" you can try everything. all the plugin companies offer trials and you can easily choose the ones that suits you the most, not the one that famous producers are paid to use.
I wish I could watch this but why do all UA-cam talking heads have this voice?
Can’t stand that voice.
Huge list!
Are those Ex Machina’s in the background? I have the Quasars and they are awesome
So we just not going to talk about Massey Tape Head?
Take your pills, bro
😂
I do not use plugins so have never heard how they sound. I have designed a hardware saturation unit that is either dual mono or mid/side. I would love to hear from any saturation aficionados how my hardware compares to these plugins. Here is a demo of it in mid/side mode
ua-cam.com/video/gdZ0AsWfiPs/v-deo.htmlsi=4tZUkAtuoLMjHhMI
These arent even the deepest gems... Theres way better stuff than the things listed in this video.
like?
OMG dude....that was rapid fire. I didn't catch any of it. Listen to a few of my tracks...tell me what you think.
