The Hologram Chroma Console Is a Beast | Tone Report

- Hologram Electronics is no stranger to revolutionizing the pedal market.
The Microcosm, released by the brand in 2020, is still the top-selling loop/sampler pedal on Reverb-and to say that looping is all it does would be incredibly reductive. Every Hologram release is an event because fans have come to expect groundbreaking effects that unlock all kind of sounds we never knew we needed.
The brand's latest effect, the Chroma Console, has definitely lived up to the expectation and was easily one of the most exciting new releases on the pedal market last year. While its eye-catchingly colorful design will draw you in, it's the nearly endless flexibility and function that will keep you coming back to explore more.

Pretty sure I could send Andy one of the pedals off my bike & he'd get a stellar riff out of it.
Heck, if I sent both, he'd probably stack them.😅
This is fucking hilarious
Pretty sure I could send him the pedal from a sewing machine
Finally, the Andy test.
*awesome
Yes, he's the go-to for good information.
After all these years, Andy is always number one
You for many years consistently make some of the best gear reviews on UA-cam. Thanks. For your hard work. #majikband sending you love.
I truly appreciate that, thanks for watching all this time! 👊💥👊
@@AndyDemos My pleasure for sure. Your playing and sense of tone is fantastic and really allows the listener to hear what each piece of gear can do. This is invaluable when shopping for gear online. You should seriously get an award from the guitar community. Thanks again and if you have time please 🙏 check out my #majikband albums Mycelium and Primordium. I come up with some pretty good guitar sounds if I say so myself. Cheers and keep on rocking.
Hologram: "Guys, we can make a great sounding normal guitar pedal. Really! We don't just do freakout boxes."
Hologram at 15:24 : "Yaaargggmuuupherrrrrya! I can't hold back any more"
It's OK, Hologram. We love you exactly for who you are.
Great sounding pedal, both for old school sounds and for freaking out.
seems super user friendly and straightforward for an initially intimidating looking device, that’s a pleasant surprise!
I feel like there should be a comprehensive "how to use this pedal effectively" video, but I am slackjawed at how easy and effectively Andy makes it look. Never thought that I'd be having to practice a pedal, but it's more fun than a Chase Bliss. 😸
A literal all-in-one pedal. Beautiful demo👍
That feeling when your favorite pedal reviewer reviews your favorite pedal. 👨🏻🍳💋
This is way too good 🤯🔥 your riffs and phrasing are amazing 👏🏼
I've been playing for 51 years. Andy's literally in the top five players for musical ideas and innovation. Nothing is EVER overplayed. Anyone can thrash. This guys, plays.
@@BCTGuitarPlayer Really? Musical ideas and innovation? Don't get me wrong, he seems like a really nice guy and is a solid player. But generally I find his ideas to be pretty generic-sounding, for the most part. That's again what I get from this demo. What am I missing?
Like the sound of that cassette effect
hologram should make rack units
Very cool pedal! Great demo Andy!!
Yeeessssss I had been waiting for Andy's test ever since it came out
Reverb, You're the best! I subscribed because I love your content!
Beautifully demoed 👍🏼
Andy really does a great job of showing what pedals can do in the right hands.
Interference is definitely my favorite! It gives a randomness to playing.
total package, great job!!!
This is the most impressive pedal demo I’ve ever seen. Would love to know how long Andy used this before recording the vid
Very impressive and extra points to Hologram for basically creating what to me appears to be the first ‘boutique’ multi effects pedal.
most underrated pedal ever ... i think it sounds beyond fantastic ... i need that thing! :D
Hey andy I was wondering if you are in a band or if you release music of your own ? Your riffs always killer so its not a far thought
Yes, perfect timing. Mine arrives tomorrow!
I had one arrive 5 mins ago, looking at it right now
@@gerardlee4319 Are you happy with it?
@@bucklebean Tried it only on Wurlitzer last night and it sounds real good. Didn't mess with it too much (secondary functions etc), but even when you push the levels it stays very musical and useable. Guitar and/ or bass tonight!
@@gerardlee4319 Nice, I'll be trying guitar and probably drums once it gets here later today. Cheers
@@bucklebean sounds good, let me know what you think.
I just got this pedal. It is so killer.
That thing and my 12 string Dano could get me lost for a few weeks!
That’s Andy having fun
What is the signal path for this demo? Real amp or amp sim? Playing through a stereo rig?🤔
DARMOK AND JALAD AT TANAGRA!!!
Sokath, his eyes uncovered!
Andy rules
Andy you're the best
I like a bit of modulation! 🎸
Came for the Chroma Console, stayed for the T shirt
how do you select the stored presets (and/or know which preset you're on), please?
I have a tough enough time of that when the numbers are lit up
The four big leds between the switches light up in multiple colours. Those 4 leds give a lot of useful feedback depending on what you’re doing. One of them is knowing which preset you’re on. When you hold the Bypass/Preset switch you go into preset select mode. In that mode, each colour has 4 presets with the active one lit up more than the others. So, there’s Red 1, Red 2, Red 3, Red 4, then Yellow 1, et cetera.
It’s pretty hard to capture well on camera, but it’s actually quite easily visible in real life. You can set it so that moving through them switches right away, or so you can select it without changing the sound, and then it switches the moment you press the switch again.
It works quite well, but of course, if you have a midi-controller preset management will be easier.
@@Qwitsoenderthank you for answering my question so well! I had wondered about those LEDs… 🤔
Hallelujah for DIN-jack M I D I !!!
$20/effect, 4 at once, stereo+usb+MIDI I/O, and some OS/performance tricks. Looks a clever alternative to a couple of H9s, whether you are a pedal newbie or if your style is already living in the post-punk/retro idioms that the CC serves best. Ah, the FPGA thing.... is it in over 1000 pedal designs yet?
Can you use two or more effects of the same module at the same time?
Is there a way to change the channel to the various effects with the foot switches or just midi?
This pedal can replace your board if you want it to
Cooooool! 😊
Simply Andy
This sounds lovely and has a lot of character, which is what effects should really have in order to find their place among hundreds of other choices. However, it does so much that a user-friendly app to create, store and manage presets would be very useful to have - and I don't see that.
Red column sounds so much like the Hudson
What is the Model of the Yamaha?
Yamaha SAS-II
Temba, his arms wide!
apologies but I dont get all the hype around this multieffects pedal. though im starting to think pedal makers have topped out with standard pedals so its going in circles back to multi effects pedals as the next craze.
Thanks again, Andy.
Kiss my money goodbye.
So this pedal has no chorus???
Vibrato plus dry signal equals chorus
Doesn't work for me. I'm color blind.
That is one expensive plug in.
We still making that lazy criticism in the year of 2024? Okay then.
It is $400 and has four simultaneous effects plus looper. Each of the effect blocks has multiple variations. $100 for a single effect pedal is not outrageous.
Here for ANDY! Not so much for the pedal 🤘🏻
too much acid sound for me
Inspired by vintage recording technology.
Sounds digital af. 🙃
Well, even the Lex Vortex is "vintage" now
@@loulasher yeah, right 🙃
