BG3 - How to save Last Light Inn, Isobel and everyone you love

TLDR:
Use Sanctuary on Isobel before the fight starts ( Shadowheart has it ). This forces the enemies to attack someone else, which gives you time to kill Marcus before Isobel goes down. It becomes a fairly easy encounter with preparations ( I haste Lae'zel and Karlach pre-fight but it's not needed ).
Long answer:
After spending 1 hour in the aftermath of NOT saving the inn/Isobel ( Halsin dead, smith guy dead, pretty much everyone dead ) I thought to myself: " There's no way this is the way it's meant to go '' so I did what any responsible RPG gamer would do and save scummed, rolling time back 1 hour.
The encounter seems impossible on first try ( and if the bad guys swarm Isobel they can kill her in 1 round ) and it's clear Larian wanted most players to fail here, but it's actually incredibly easy if you can keep Isobel alive for 1 round. Marcus isn't anything special and his flying monkeys are only dangerous because Isobel is a 50 hp NPC with an AC of ''please hit me''.
The only thing that can wreck things is if Isobel gets a good Initiative, at which point she yells "LEEEEROY", starts attacking and gets Sanctuary dispelled. Other than that, it's a Bonus Action spell with no Concentration so Marcus gets clapped.
Ouch. I thought this was a scripted loss for the longest time. The only person who survived for us was Jaheira. :[
i just figured i missed a pre requiaite to not let this happen. i carried on the town is dead.......
After I failed the first time and my jaw dropped at the aftermath, I reloaded my save. Went back with a new method. Scroll of banishment on the boss. Everything else died easy. And by the time he returned to our plane, the entire tavern was in that room ready to kick his ass
I prefer Sanctuary since you can cast it before combat. With Banish you rely on getting your turn first which in my experience hasn't worked so well
How easy it is to lose and how big the consequences are for the area (essentially wiping all the side quests for the good side) makes me think this is something that would have changed if this section was in EA also.
I thought that her getting taken and the big battle was meant to happen until i lost that fight and it worked out the other way the second time, insane!
Just an FYI, I built a fort using chairs and other moveable objects in front of all the doors and she basically was in the room alone with me and the boss. None of the minions could get in. I easily beat this part and moved on.
You beautiful bastard.
You’re a hero
This had me in tears 😭@@Mumbles0225
i just quick saved with the barricades ready and went online to see if that works, thanks man!
Bro I just wanted to thank you, I spent 4 hours dying over and over again but you strat helped so much
If you go into dialogue with shadowheart and you use the cleric response after asking if isobel knew this guy it makes marcus focus attack shadowheart instead ( this is from what ive noticed)
let's be honest you have no option but to save scum this fight anyway. The one that comes after should you lose is absolutely impossible lol
I won the fight that comes after without much issue but the desolation of everyone being dead just made me think there had to be another way. Halsin was with Ard Cullagh so he got Shadow Cursed and I had to kill him too. That's what tipped me off that you COULD save Isobel.
@@VDA19U won it because u were like lvl 6 or 7
Usually, we'r lvl 5 on this zone
I’m glad I’m not the only one stumped by this. I get my ass handed to me no matter what I do. This fight just seems so OP and unfair. I was trying to let Isobel be taken, but we still have to fight the infected. It’s too much
Just a quick tip, turn Marcus into a sheep, it also reduces his health.
This part of the game is atrocious and goes against everything an rpg should be. If an outcome this severe and dark was a result of your own poor choices or genuinely fucking something up that's fine. Instead the game throws you into a complete bs situation that is absolutely impossible to beat without savescumming. The setup of Marcus just flying away the moment he knocks Isobel out is poorly written and stupid too - this guy you never even heard anything about shows up out of nowhere and after knocking Isobel out before you can even realise what's happening he just... flies away? The writers were aware that he is still in a room with the player right? Why would the player character just let him slowly pick her up and fly off without using the opportunity to attack him? And the outcome to the game essentially cheating to give you the emotional reaction it's trying so desperately to force down your throat is losing access to 2 great merchants and all the idiots you spent 20 hours trying to save in emerald grove dying in a cutscene. This kind of railroading shit has no place in an rpg with such a huge emphasis on player choice and freedom.
I blocked a couple doors with barrels and got the adversary on the floor laughing with Tasha's Hideous Laughter (on tactician, sometimes it pays to be a bard) and it was a much easier fight than my first time through on balanced when they took me by surprise and everything went to sh_t.
i jhust collected every barrel in the building and plaxed them in front of the doors.
I thought this was hard until i thought wait this is baldurs gate i set up 2 tnt barrels next to him and one powder trap and then used fireball on him when he is still human outside the door to the cleric he went flying hit the wall and died it was glorious.
First run: almost kill Marcus, but the squad gets surrounded and I don't have enough cc to prevent Isobel from getting knocked out (Astarion, SH, and Wyll)
PLUS the townsfolk are just kinda doing meh
Second try: Pull up with SH, Gale, and Karlach. I am an abjuration/evocation wiz so I just use some slow time, some buffs to be tanky, and electro kamehame ha two demon bois.
Slow was WAY better than I thought it would be. It allowed Karlach and SH to practically body block Marcus, while me, isobel, and gale did damage.
Bonus: Jaheira destroyed like 2 demons and transformed into a bad ass panther. Very cool.
I turned him into a sheep xD Though when he turned back it really messed him up for some reasion
Dk if anyone has ran into a similar bug but I was able to kill Marcus even after Isobel was knocked unconscious. The bug undid itself after a long-rest, came back to the town all cursed. So uh yeah, focus all attacks on the bird mfer, barricading the doors with furniture helps slow down the demons which is crucial in keeping Isobel alive. Did it after 4-ish or more tries, used as much weapon coating and potions as I could
So basically just going ham at the trouble then? I wanna try this using "party limit begone" mod since now this sounds very nice.
I am playing on Balanced and had no issues. I was a bit overprepared maybe. I had Karlach take an Elixir of Vigilance, entered Turn-Based mode and had my two Clerics (PC and Shadowheart) cast Warding Bond, Protection from Good/Evil and Sanctuary on Isobel and had Karlach (wielding the Sussur Greatsword) take a a Potion of Speed before I initiated dialog. After that, just did random stuff. Felt like a safe win. Also, Marcus attacked Karlach instead of Isobel. The Harpers were able to handle themselves well enough, so it was only a quesiton of honor to help.
Only did this three times because first time, it was not my PC in the cutscene and second time I got stuck in the doorway so that the Harpers and other guests won on their own, couldn't leave it at that.
Rolling my save back about 6 hrs, going to try doing halsins quest to dispel the shadow curse before doing isobel. Maybe everyone in town wont get brutally murdered
Yeah losing the whole place was freaking brutal.
I reloaded that battle 4 times before finally saving her
Yeah understandable, it's a huge change to ACT II and if Halsin is there he dies after@@TravisChalmers
Yeah, I tried that… figured killing Ketheric on my own but… ummm… yeah
Yeah I just avoid talking to Isobel altogether. Get the moonlamp and pixie blessing instead
I discovered last night that if you step away from an enemy and then back into range of spirit guardians, the enemy has to keep making saves again and again. I was able to make this guy roll 4 saves just by taking a step out, then a step in. I’m looking forward to trying it out in a situation with a high Con caster to break their concentration
Anyone knows how tf jahiera turned into a displacer beast?
I had absolutely no issue with this fight, so interesting how player experience differs sp drastically, like I didn't play this particularly well or anything, I just won. Used a Scroll of Icewall to block of the Path to Isobell from 3 sides, killed Markus, and electrocuted the frozen surface after the ice wall was gone for a second less powerful AOI Danger Zone. All the lesser Mobs just killed themselves running into it, actually hilarious
Really depends on your luck, in my case Marcus and his flying monkeys rolled first on initiative and literally oneshot Isobel before anything else could happen. As far as I know, they patched the Sanctuary stuff but you can just block all doors with Spirit Guardians, it's not a hard fight if you know it's coming.
My real mistake was not taking the long rest prior to wandering into the Inn and just talking with everyone. Lol I had no spells and was just taken totally by surprise.
I reloaded so many times here. Basicly, shadowheart was healing/protecting Isobel, while she just jumped on enemies basicly asking to be kidnapped. Many saves later, i managed to kill 5 demons that tried to make her unconcios while dealing with Marcus at the same time. Pashing him away and then throwing everything i could at him. With a few reloads i finaly did it. Boy, that was tough, but im glad i managed
i just defeated marcus in under a minute!! block all the doors with objects and i used the hideous laughter spell on him then just went ham on him while he was on the ground lol. good luck
Of course, you already knew what will happen.
I fucked up and cast turn undead too early from shadowheart (which works cuz the winged ghouls are undead), and had to go through the WHOLE camp. Tieflings, Harpers, even some damned shadow root that joined mid battle. It was brutal
Huh I didn't know alot of people had lost this fight.
Granted when I did this, It was after I roamed around the place during my first playthrough.
It also helped when Laezel was blocking the door and he was outside on the balcony after the cutscene ended and me getting a good knock back on him that yeeted him off the said balcony.
Same for me. Got a few whacks on him and thought ‘oooooh, wonder if I can push him off’… and did. Was then to hit him with a few things from said balcony as he was prone for a while which made it all seem quite easy. I then accidentally looted a dwarf and the whole place turned on me… Marcus n his winged horrors weren’t the issue anymore…
Took me 3 tries, had to use the worm powers lol
I killed the boss by having two characters double distract attack and everyone survived. Am very confused how everyone else had all the villagers died unless it’s Tactician because I was playing at balanced difficulty.
My first playthrough i was losing this fight quite a bit. Was thinking it was scripted to lose but i kept at it. Only had myself as a druid, gale who couldn’t hit much in close range, shadowheart who desperately needed glasses with how much she was missing, and laezel who was actually doing damage. Missed getting wyll and karlach and missed astarion so i didn’t have them.
I managed to win by having gale and shadowheart heal isobel with spells and me an laezel beating up marcus
Second run as a monk with astarion, karlach and halsin marcus went down like it was nothing
I don't understand how you can miss getting Wyll and Karlach.
Wyll is thrown at your face by the game itself, and recruiting him marks Karlach's location in your map.
Astarion is also very easy to spot just after you crash in the Nautiloid, but oh well.
@@SeventhheavenDK wanna know how? was first time playing a game like this, got distracted by everything and kept walking past wyll as i kept trying to resolve things with the druids, until i forgot all about him. astarion, i just never went in the direction he was at, i went EVERYWHERE but that spot he was at, i was dumb as hell on my first playthrough
Lost first time. Refused defeat. Brought Karlach, Shadowheart, and Gale along with me, kicked the crap out of Marcus, slaughtered the stupid paralysis demons, saved everyone 😁
I really wish someone would do a walkthrough where they speak videos like this are too fast and hard to follow especially on a phone how to do tons of screenshots
as a warlock,
1. i somehow blasted marcus off the roof and he fell on the ground floor severely wounded and became fall down state.
2. use shadowheart's turn undead and somehow oneshot most undead terror.
3. ??
4. pass
I still don't get how to win this one. Isobel gets killed in two swoops and her AI is braindead stupid, just runs into the ghouls herself.
pre-cast lots of buffs. +2AC on her, Haste on your martials so they can kill Marcus fast.
Alternatively just place 4 Clerics with Spirit Guardians in the exact spot she'll spawn, ghouls won't survive that.
@@VDA19 thanks man, I'll give it a shot!
After my initial loss, I named a save "Is this fight winnable" and took another crack at it. Blocked the doors with chairs/ vases, set up a ⭐Happy Fun Time⭐ set of exploding barrels for Marcus, and hit Isobel with Warding Bond before I talked to her to start the sequence. I lost 2 NPCs on the bottom floor, some random Harper and the tiefling that gives you the "save the tieflings' quest, but the rest of the fight went really smoothly.
My tears of failure ran across my controller and the keyboard of my computer, until I read this. I blocked up the doors, hit that fool with a hex on intelligence, and a Sunbeam to the face, and then lit this fool up with some Kentucky fried fireballs and that was that! Now just watching the rest of the town go Samuel L Jackson on the invaders, as I keep Isobel hostage upstairs :) Truly delightful, and thank you for that xxx
How do you move items to block the door? (pS5)
@MichaelHonscar You can pick up chests, crates, barrels, and the like and drop them wherever you like.
Stash them in your camp chest until needed.
How
Does anyone know if its possible to pass that constitution saving throw so that Mol doesnt get grabbed?
I passed it and she still got grabbed.
Playing a druid made this so easy. Conjure Woodland Beings gave me two more bodies that entangled everybody they encountered and the rest of my part just cleaned up the rest
With prior knowledge I'm pretty sure you can just put 2 Spirit Guardian clerics near Isobel and nothing reaches her
I saved them all with 2 critical divine smites, all good haha
I skipped this entire fight completely; went out into the shadowfell and killed the drider, and if you release the fairy in the moon lantern she’ll give you a feywild bell that lets you go anywhere like selunes blessing. Just too traumatized from getting everyone zombified twice lol
I've only came to this part on my Drow cleric char and didn't like that the Harper's tried to jump me beforehand and Jaheira's obnoxious attitude at the bridge . Marcus joined in on Jaheira's side so wound up killing everybody whether I wanted to or not . Then Isobel was hostile but I just knocked her out . Everyone else was hostile so...... Only Counselor Florek didn't aggro so she talked to me then left. Probably messed it all up but it's what my character would have done .
I really dont want to carry on now, im not goign to save scum either. I will go on and use it as a meant to motivate me to stop the absoloute, but all the quests, items and encounters i just lost man. Also when i play my next evil play through on my seccond game, ill still end up loosing them all. It sucks.
Has this changed much? Marcus went down in the first round and the demons fell soon after. Actually nobody died!
Sanctuary is the GOAT strategy. idk why this vid has so many dislikes
i.gyazo.com/db9f8684aa2bffae28990e0b7531bf1c.png
It's not so bad. I guess most people were unhappy that it's sped up, but I don't really think " USE SANCTUARY!!! " warrants a 10 minute video. I always hated when creators made a 4 minute video for a 15 second solution.
Is it bad I won the first time I used sanctuary to protect her at times 😅
I really want to learn how I can save everyone there, especially dammon we need him to help karlach
I was doing this, almost was sure it was a scripted L because I killed the main dude and the chick ran into the other room because I chose the dialouge telling her hes trying to kidnap you.. then the mobs of demons swarmed her and we were doing fine until she got paralyzed.. but shes still doing fine at 72 health.. then the mobs literally hit three straight crits in a row insta killing her at almost full health.
Hey does anyone know how to stop mol the one eyed tefling calling for help no matter where I am this happened after I completed the battle of the inn
Man, that was a hard fight. I was starting to think it was scripted to lose. Like 6 demons swarmed her, and she kept running herself into corner, or ruining to them, as if to get herself killed. Repulsar and thunderwave, combined with Shadowheart just keep healing her was the key.
At the end I’ve started to think shadrowheart is my weakest thought. Time for Asterion I feel. I don’t her like much anyway lol
Don't interrupt the caster that is keeping eveyone safe, get a lantern as you should and finish first floor of moonrise before youctalk to her! Make sure the tower is to bussy to mess with the inn!
Everyone is.. dead
I stopped Isobel from kidnap n then i saved the whole town except 5 people
So I used Silence on the top of the roof and it prevented the Marcus cut scene! 😅💁🏻♂️
lmao i just pushed him off the balcony in isobel room and he’s like on the ground dead 😭
I was reloading this battle so many times. 3 enemies near Isobel, she starts running, and guess what? She gets hit 3 times by opportunity attacks and dies.
4 enemies around Isobel, I'm having a genious plan to banish her and fireball the shit out of all the enemies, but guess what? Banishing Isobelle automatically starts cutscene and makes you fail the encounter.
Another save, I killed Marcus. There was 1 minion left with 3 hp. I'm pretty confident that it's over. Guess what? He crits for 25 and kills Isabel, starting the cutscene.
I hate this encounter. And to think that all the npcs die if you can't protect stupid Isobel, ruining important questlines. Idk what Larian were thinking while making this part of the game.
I m very surprised that they made failure cost you the whole settlement. You basically have no vendor in act 2 if they all die, until you get to Moonrise.
So far this has been the shittiest part of the game. Im still lost on how to pass this.
Can the demons come through closed doors? I had them open for the first several times and if I just need to close them to keep them from overwhelming Isobel that’ll help greatly
They can, but you can also just position people in front of the doors so they can't get in.
Only 3 doors and 4 of you. That leaves on person on each door and one to beat down Marcus
I didn't know people struggled against Flame Fist Marcus a lot. It basically took me 4 turns to completely wipe out 90% of his party and my party is full DPS, no strategy, no fancy magic build. My main character is Oath of vengeance Paladin (Tiefling). Laezel, Karlach and Gale were in my party. Except for Gale, I could strike 4-5 times with my main character along with Laezel and Karlach. The only thing that I think made the fight favorable towards me was my level. I was at level 8 when I fought Marcus.
Level 8 ? That sounds like the reason it was so easy for you :D
Doesn’t work anymore, tried using spells before the fight started only to Not have it on anymore. BULLSHIT
Just block the doors with your people before talking to Isobel
The fact you sped this video up bothers me so much.
YT has playback speed adjustment :)
im kidding
@@poikelos6291 Shadowheart disaproves
@@Neverdeadly shadow heart has killed one of your party
yh this fucked me up and caused me to reset save. Turns out evocation wizzard dosnt protect what the game considers neutral parties in combat. Lvl 3 fireball lowered isobel allowing her to be knocked out. killing the entire inn including dammon and locked me out of karlachs quest. a hefty fuckup
Yeah, Dammon dying is why I figured out this encounter wasn't meant to be unwinnable. It locked you out of like 3 quests and got Halsin killed/turned into an undead.
yeah its one a the very few gripes i've had with the game so far. In reloading it turns out it's entirely possible to just get fucked on initiative. Isobel literally got 1 turn killed by 3 deamons and the winged dude before i was even allowed to have a turn. Not very fun rng when this fight can fuck up so many questlines.
@@VDA19
@@VDA19 Same. Only reason I am reloading saves is because I want to save Dammon. Everyone else IDC. I was considering going forward due to able to look bunch of things. But man.
@@paulbuksmann5901 Yeah that's why you use Sanctuary on her BEFORE the fight starts. Then she can't get attacked and you win easily.
This no longer works. She gets a new status called Sanctuary Blocked. I guess Larian patched it out
Edit: Still works, but you cannot cast it before the battle anymore. You have to do it during. It also cancels out when she does... absolutely anything
Yeah, I figured they'd find a way to patch it. It's really hard to win the fight without it, though. I guess you could put 4 Clerics with Spirit Guardians around her lmao.
@@VDA19 A method I've found that helps is using Command: Drop on Marcus and using Turn Undead. But you still have to deal with the fact that Isobel's AI is dogshit and that she's not marked as Friendly despite your dialogue options
@@ascended8174 on my first try the enemy had initiative and they killed Isobel before I even had a turn. It s why i thought to pre cast sanctuary
@@VDA19 Oh yeah, there's that too. Combination of all of these things kinda make this fight AIDS tbh
Im surprised to find that some people think this fight is hard? I have imbalanced party (3 fighters and 1 cleric) and I easily won the fight since fighters have action surge and extra attack, (I played on balance difficulty btw, maybe because of this the fight feels easy to me?)
You forget that Baldurs Gate goes on rolls. The people who find it hard are just unlucky. Also Isobels AI isn't really self-persevering and the enemy AI is scripted to B line for her.
and u have a cleric ..... which makes the game easier....
