      🍴❌🧑🏼‍🦼 This is one of my top 3 favorite films of all time. It's tragic, but gives Hugh a true hero's end to 17 years of playing the consistent character of the X-Men saga. It broke my heart, and I still weep every time I watch it. Daphne loved this role, and had so much fun on set, and she & Hugh have a lifelong relationship now. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!

    The Westchester incident is when Charles first had a seizure, and he ended up killing most of the x-men. Also the reason mutants have gone extinct is because transagen has engineered food to weaken and kill mutants. That along with the adamantium poisoning is why logan is having issues healing.

    • @Parallax-3D
      @Parallax-3D Місяць тому +8

      The food does not “weaken and kill mutants.” It only prevents new mutants from being born.

    • @DankBlitzwing
      @DankBlitzwing Місяць тому

      While Transigen's virus doesn't kill mutants, it definitely weakens them. As it directly attacks the X-Gene, which (as you've said) prevents future mutants from being born, it also weakens their natural abilities. This is why the Adamantium poisoning Logan suffers from is much more severe than it logically should be. His regenerative healing factor should still heal him, just a bit slower than usual to keep up with the poison. But the virus attacking the X-Gene weakens it even further. This is also the reason why Logan has occasional trouble with his claws getting stuck, why he is aging much faster, and a whole lot of other health issues (like bloody coughing fits and fading eye sight) that, while common for older humans, should be completely foreign to him. Heck, even the Logan from the comic that heavily inspired this movie, 'Old Man Logan', didn't suffer from those problems.

    • @thecoldestlightning
      @thecoldestlightning Місяць тому +2

      @@Parallax-3DThe food does weaken the mutants...in terms of their individual mutations. That's the reason why Logan's healing factor has slowed down. The food attacks the mutant gene weaking and then mutating/destroying it.

    • @Klaital1

    I saw this in the theater with my teenage son. it was probably the most heart wrenching film we'd seen - watching everyone leave the theater was like watching people leave a funeral. so very solemn, so much respect.

  • @CarlHungus
    @CarlHungus Місяць тому +17

    saw this in theaters. it was Charles' burial scene that broke me. it was sad that this character who championed values like mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation in films that came out across my teenage years was left buried in an unmarked grave by the side of the road. but the thing about it that broke me was Jackman's performance trying to eulogize Charles. because he can't. Logan is all alone, buried his last friend in the world, and he knows it. breaks my heart every single time.

    Great reaction like always! This movie hits really, really hard, in a number of different ways. I think that's why everyone loved it so much. That and the acting and writing in this was magnificent. As soon as Laura said, "Daddy," everyone in the theater broke. A lot of people that grew up with Hugh Jackman as Logan were teary eyed because he played him for 17 yrs at this point I think and it was the end of Wolverine's story so to speak.
    Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman were sitting beside each other at the premiere, and Stewart said he noticed Hugh wipe away a tear, so he stopped fighting and allowed himself to do the same. Two legends appreciating the incredible send-off they gave their iconic characters.
    Dafne Keen the amazing young actress who played Laura is the daughter of British Actor Will Keen and Spanish actress María Fernández Ache. Maria was Dafne’s chaperone on set, and in the scene where Laura and Logan have the fierce argument in the car the director encouraged both performers to ad lib. After the scene was filmed Hugh Jackman, who has a daughter of about the same age, felt a bit uncomfortable about shouting and swearing so much at a child so went up to Dafne’s mom to make sure Dafne was okay.. “Don’t worry” said Maria, “she called you a c**t three times in Spanish in that last scene”.
    Do you remember in The Wolverine movie Yukio said that Logan will die having blood everywhere and holding his heart in his hand ? and he died the same way having his daughters hand in his hand. Keep up the good work

    Re Laura's fighting style: she probably learned *how* to fight in the lab she was raised in, since she was meant to be a soldier, but because she's a little kid she has almost no body mass. Where Logan is big enough to throw his opponents around, Laura throws herself around.

    • @pmgpc69
      @pmgpc69 Місяць тому +5

      @@MsSwordwolf Laura also does not have adamantium bonded to her skeleton the way Logan does. The adamantium is only in her hands and foot making her lighter and more agile. Logan can afford to charge head on into battle since the adamantium in his skeleton makes him durable like a tank. Laura on the other hand needs to be more careful and creative when taking down opponents.

    At the end when Logan says, "So, this is what it feels like" a lot of people think he's talking about being loved or having family or something like that. With most people's evidence being the scene in The Wolverine where he's told he will die with his heart in his hand and we see him holding Laura's hand. He loves her, hence dying with his heart in his hand.
    I think that his line is referring to him finally being able to die. Every time he's "died" before was either with the knowledge that he cannot die and will heal or, his healing factor prevents the natural senses and feelings a person experiences when death happens. Like how people who had near death experiences or people who did die and were brought back say they felt at peace or felt other things. I think that is what Logan is talking about. He can finally feel the peace that death brings. No more fighting. No more running. No more suffering. Just peace for a man whose entire life has been pain and suffering.

    I remember seeing Logan opening weekend, as usual with my good friend who really got me deeper into the world of comic book heroes than just passing familiarity with the big movies. It was an emotional gut punch for me particularly because my dad, who had me when he was already nearing retirement age, had just turned 85 and had been in worsening health since a medical emergency a couple years prior. I recognized so much of his advancing frailty in Charles that it was hard to focus on the plot for the first act or so. Dad passed away about six months after that. Even though I hold this film in high regard, I think I've only sat down to watch it all the way through once since then.

People were solemn leaving the theater, but they were also talking about how great the movie was, many saying it was the best superhero to date. Mainly, they looked emotionally drained by the end of it.

Hell I cried in the very first X-Men movie when I saw that at the theater. I was like 9? And when Wolverine did what he did to save Rogue, I thought he was a goner. My thoughts at the time were that all too often, franchises peter out, characters fade away, and we're never given any resolutions. So this, giving us heroic endings, tragic endings to a long story line, was heartbreaking, but beloved. I don't care if it's canon, or outside some timeline, it's all just argumentative debate, and it doesn't affect the fantastic film making, and lovely performances. I saw it 4 times in theaters, and it was a constant source of discussion in the office.

    Ok yes there are tears lol damn it every time for me, I've seen this movie probably 10 times and atleast probably 5 reactions and the "Daddy" and the "so this is what it feels like" literally ALWAYS gets me, also "it wasn't me it wasn't me" when x24 stabbed Charles.

    Never before, or since, have I left a superhero movie and not heard a ton of excited chatter from fellow theatre-goers. For once, viewers stayed to the end not for a fun after credit gag, but in the desperate hope that maybe, just maybe, it wasn't the end for Logan. People talked, but it was hushed tones, like everyone was afraid of breaking whatever spell had fallen over us.

    this film is in the same continuity as the deadpool films, which is in a universe similar but obviously different to the main trilogy/first 2 Wolvie films but with DOFP that timeline got wiped and replaced with a new one. Deadpool 1 & 2 and this movie are in the same universe, just parallel to the one we know

    27:31 Yes, the new "Logan" is called X-24, however only Laura is X-23, each child has a designated number. If...and I repeat IF this is the same timeline as "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" then Deadpool was X-11, so that would probably make the kids X-12 to X-23.

    Hugh Jackman: the one and only true definitive best Wolverine. Nobody can ever replace him. And to me nobody can ever replace anyone else from the first three X-Men movies as the characters. I don't care who Disney gets to play The X-Men next but they never been my X-Men. They will never be able to compete with the 2000 X-Men.

    10:22 "She doesn't seem afraid though." That's a very accurate assessment M'Lady. 😉
    17:31 Perhaps an unpopular opinion: Charles needs to be put down at this point, he's a constant danger to everyone.

    The fact that I know what a bummer this movie is often distracts me from its overall quality and excellent violence. A solid conclusion to Logan's story, he is truly a hero the likes of which we will never see again. 🤔 Cheers , Happy Weekend, and Happy Holidays to our lovely Hostess Kaiielle, and to all Y'all out there who aren't A-holes. 🥃☮❤

    You're surprised to see Boyd Holbrook play a villain?! Wow, that's been like his niche lately. Between Logan, The Sandman, the Justified miniseries, and the last Indiana Jones movie, he's played some serious baddies in recent years. When I saw The Bikeriders last year, I was glad to see him not be a bad guy for the first time in a while (although, him standing next to Austin Butler so much made me get them confused several times - lol).

    the adamantium that they bonded to his bones is what's killing him. when he was young, his healing factor enabled him to keep it in check but as he's getting old and frail, it can't keep up and it's killing him. a BRILLIANT little bit of detail that works perfectly for this movie.

    I feel that this film possibly marked the end of the Golden Age of superhero movies, and ushered in a new age for the genre. From here on in, it would no longer be enough for a film to feature people with superhuman powers doing outlandish stunts in colourful costumes. Hits would be far more rare, and to be successful, a film would have to offer something different, whether it be in terms of emotional content or absurd Deadpool type humour.
    It's similar, perhaps, to the demise of the Hollywood western in the 1950s. Whereas almost any half-way decent western could be guaranteed an audience up until then, from the 1960s and '70s onwards, westerns needed something extra in order to succeed, whether it was the light-heartedness of something like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the grittier approach of films like Soldier Blue, or the personal journey of A Man Called Horse. Hopefully, as the cookie-cutter superhero movies die out, we'll see the same thing happen to this genre: fewer films, but each one offering something even more original and engaging. Fingers crossed!

    hugh jackman has come a long way since his first Australian film paperback hero. which is a romcom. james mangold did a really good job of creating a good story of an old hero's journey. so much better than the new star wars films rouge one was the only one that was good. and a really emotional ending. and of course a johnny cash song at the start of the end credits awesome. one episode of stargate atlantis has another johnny cash song. stargate sg1 being 10 seasons and stargate atlantis being 5 seasons would be a really big effort for a film and tv reactor to do. but it would be good.

    Great reaction to Logan. This was such a great movie. Everything about it was just picture perfect so after new mutants you’re going to do a reaction to Deadpool and wolverine correct? Or do you gotta watch X-Men 97 first because I was thinking that you should watch Blade fantastic four Electra and daredevil and Deadpool two after this are you going to do that or did you already did a reaction to them?
