I travel to the Yorkshire Dales to capture an image taken in horrendous conditions before sharing my new editing process to create a dramatic and moody feel. Thanks Adam you are a whiz on the computer. I'm 55 and can still walk and climb those hills you just have to stay fit eat right and be blessed with good health! I hope to see you still hiking up and down those hills at 65.
Without question one of my favourite types of videos. From out in the filed to the finished article with all of the steps. I am always intrigued to know how photographers go about processing their images. I learned a few things that will help inspire my photography. What's even better is showing how great images can be had no matter what the weather conditions throw at you. Another good wee instructional video Adam and always nice to see you creating something in less than favourable conditions. Our inclement weather very often puts many, including myself off going out but you have once again proved it can be done and it's all about getting out and about. Thanks for sharing, keep well.

On a personal note, a couple of years ago, me and the better half sat in that exact spot after walking from Goredale Scar to Malham Tarn and were lucky enough to be able to watch the Peregrines as we ate our sarnies. Excellent video. I know that part of Yorkshire really well and those weather conditions are very familiar. I have often found myself uninspired and not bothered going out thinking my images are just going to end up rather flat and boring. I think that’s partly due to my lack of knowledge of how to use Lightroom’s image processing tools so your demo has helped me a lot. Thanks a lot for inspiring me. Your channel is brilliant. Keep it up.

Once I was thirty-seven years old my momma told me go make yourself some friends because you’re too old for landscape photography. I preferred the second image and I love dramatic images taken in bad weather.

Great tutorial. Will definitely be using that method in the coming weeks. I'm in Harrogate so a trip to Malham not out of the question. And it seems that weather type is currently settling in.
I love shooting in bad weather. I actually often prefer flat light, fog, haze, misty rain. Your message in the intro is spot on. In my own photography, my goal is education and inspiration regarding the outdoors and natural world. I feel if I can convince one person to go for a hike, experience the outdoors, I have accomplished something. I like the videos where you take an image and then process it. My tastes are a bit different but watching and hearing your mindset as you process really helps me better understand how to shape mood into an image. Very nice video Adam.

when you're out walking alone there's no shame being defeated by a trail, I'd rather walk an extra 2 miles than risk scrabbling up wet scree. awesome images, thanks Adam 👍

Love the way you edited that shot Adam, I'm using Skylum Luminar to edit mine just getting used to it but the tips you give are well worth noting.

Nice to see a different way of editing images which isn't all saturation and clarity boosting, almost looks like you shot it on film. Don't forget the X-T3 !!

I really like the dramatic processing employed here. One thing I notice you didn't do with the graduated filter was to use the Range Mask tool to restrict your adjustments just to the sky, thereby preventing them bleeding into the distant landscape below.
Another fab video Adam. I'm with you on dislike for greens and like how you have processed the image. Did you visualise this processing when taking the shot as I try to do that more and more, I.e what processing will I do here

In my opinion going B&W would have been beneficial for this particular image. All the interest is in the cliff and its curve, and you also said that you don't like the greens. Still, great video as always, looking forward to a new one! Cheers

I would like to see you do that in Capture One 12.
There's a video on the Capture One channel about split tone/dual tone in Capture One 11, I think it will get the effect you're after.
Radial grads are in, they can be asymmetric. So can regular gradients.
You can erase gradients, that has been in for a long time. It's about equivalent to your brushing in exposure adjustment to undo the soft gradient on the hilltops.
A really enjoyable video - learnt a lot. Also great to hear a photographer talk about the environment and dont read Reddit - waste of time!
I love Goredale, Malham and most of the Dales..... if only I didn't live in Woking..... it is awful :-) And I'm 60, but I don't let that slow me down, any weather in the Dales beats Woking. Great video

I dont know if its just me but the Info blast at the end of the video is covered by your logo in the bottom left of screen and a vlog suggestion window in the top left of screen. True. I don't use it when I'm post processing on a video. I think the mouse pointer helps to show exactly what I'm doing. I still use it on all other occasions and love it.
Makes sense! Looking forward to trying some of these tips out anyway. I didn't think that much editing could be done and yet keep it looking genuine.

Looks like a grad filter would be a great starting point for this image, to knock down the clouds, keep some more dynamic range available in-camera... Or, has everyone just forgotten about how useful grad filters can be? ;-)

All sympathy for you Adam but get a grip dude, you're 37 not 73! Just pulling your leg, It was great to see you act in such a responsible way, it's often too easy to go so far up a trail and then decide to push on because you don't want to retrace your steps and start the day again, next thing you know you're in trouble and Mountain rescue are putting themselves in harms way!
Great tips on the edit, I often use a radial filter now and really like the de-saturated look, see you soon Del.

Guy & Gray your bypassing my valid points on Dynamic range & let's add, 'colour depth'. Canon are hardly progressing & if your unaware of other brands results compared to the increasingly lower spec older technologies of Canon, well..i can't aid in that. I repeat Canon glass is very pleasing but the bodies are no-longer for me personally. As for the shiny new toy comment, lol.. if it were that simple.
I've had Canon for many years but now decide to get better value for my precious cash..end of!
Wait until you're in your 60's. You really have to think about what you're willing to risk. I think I'm quite cautious, but don't ask my husband.

Damn shame Canons dynamic range isn't progressing like other brands, especially when landscapes are your bread & butter. Nikon & Sony & Pentax & even Fuji have surpassed with ease. I went from Canon to selling all & now deciding upon next brand which in conjunction with my observations & array of choice is difficult to find a new brand to settle on. Loved the Canon lenses but thought bodies short changed me somewhat for the £€$
graham clarke .. why .. just because there is a new shiny toy on the market doesn’t then make your toy rubbish , it’s still the same toy you loved before the new shiny ones came along ... if you were happy with it before you should still be happy with it now regardless how other things are ... people are to obsessed with the latest and greatest , and it is the source of unhappiness , there will always be something better , you just need to be happy with what you have ...
