    He grew the NBA, domestically & internationally, in ways people still just don't understand. Basketball grew because of him. Nike grew because of him. Millions of little kids took up sports because of him. Some of those kids ended up in the NBA next to him.

    This movie "Air" is one of the best told story written and shot and acted by the entire talented team. A definitely must-see. Besides, if you grew up in the 80's, this movie brings you back to such sweet memories of the songs, cars, jewelry, hair styles, clothes.... I love this movie, a pure joy to watch, to listen, and to reminiscing.

      Something I've wanted for a long time from a superhero movie is one never shows the superhero directly but in the background and focused on the stories of people in the city. Ironically would work perfectly for Batman lol
      I'm glad to hear Air is this way because the myth of the hero (or villain) is so much stronger when you don't show them directly eg. Jaws

    Being 38 and from chicago I remember all us kids wanting to be like Mike. I was fortunate to have a dad who brought me jordans almost every year they released. My top favorite jordans in order to 14 are the 11s 3s 4s 6s 1s 8s 12s 13s 7s 5s 10s 9s 14s 2s. I only mess with the first 14 since all but one were actually worn on the court in a bulls uniform by the goat. Really looking forward to this movie I hope it's as good as it looks.

      @plainsimple244 Рік тому

      Hey, full disclosure, I'm a Bad Boys Pistons fan but I'm not stupid, Jordan was always great and always a championship type of player, he just had to learn HOW to actually win and if the Pistons were not injured in '91, he doesn't win; then Detroit broke up that team and guess what? More money and more Jordan which became annoying in the 90's. I grew up during that time period, I NEVER wanted to be like Mike... I thought his entire persona was 100% fake; I knew he was great on the court but to be like another person, no... I will say this, he had the one style you COULD NOT copy, practice, or emulate, that's straight god-given talent on the floor and hard work, the man was a basketball machine and improved every season and beat the actual 'game' twice to the point where he had to retire because he was either bored or being investigated for his success.

    I'm 47 so I was in the age group that watched Jordan's career from the beginning all the way through. To Gen-X he is the closest thing to a real life super-hero we have known, you can tell that from how Affleck talks about him in this clip. Mike Tyson was similar to that as well because of his insane multi-year run of pure dominance/brutality, but Jordan is in a class all by himself. Somewhat tough to explain if your childhood/teen/young adult years didn't run alongside his career. It's why I can only laugh when people talk about Lebron as the GOAT, with no MJ, there is no Lebron.

    • @veronicadabney1466
      @veronicadabney1466 Рік тому

      No, I don't think it's a "JOKE". These "GROWN MEN" don't actually mean they are physically Afraid of great people they encounter. You're overplaying it a bit. They don't think Jordan is going to physically attack them and beat them up or something. They are NOT "TERRIFIED". They mean they are awestruck, just like most people are when they meet someone they greatly admire and respect. They don't want to come off as stupid by saying or doing something foolish. I think even YOU know what I mean. It doesn't have to be a great athlete, it can be an entertainer, a great political leader, a president or an admired world leader. It's just an endearing human trait to admit publicly that there are some people you greatly admire because of their achievements.

      @@veronicadabney1466 Ain't NOBODY "look up tp" another man like that, least of all competitors like NBA players. I mean, people ACTUALLY feared Shaq. He could knock your nose in with his elbow and break your rib cage. People REALLY hated playing against him, but how many people have you seen come out and say they were "terrified: of Shaq. NONE.
      You know why? Because men don't ever ADMIT they are scared of other men. It is the equivalent of a boxer saying he was "scared" of Mike Tyson or George Foreman. Even if they were, they are not going to be on tv EVERYDAY advertising it. ONLY Jordan do you have this LOOOONG campaign of trying to portray him like a larger than life character. Even Magic Johnson has been on tv for YEARS saying he is "scared" of Jordan.
      That is silly, as Magic had challenged Jordan to a made for tv one on one game for charity, and Jordan backed out saying he didn't want to be seen "as a one on one player". Jordan then proceeded to take Jordan down low and whup him like a little kid in the 1991 finals. Yet, Magic is on tv everyday saying he was "terrified of Jordan". It IS a joke.

You’re looking at a $30,000 “piece of cardboard” as my parents used to like to call my cards 😂 My card collection is now my retirement and my means of putting my kids, Godchildren, and any future grandchildren through college in addition to leaving my family an inheritance that will never depreciate in value.
    And yes. If you’re thinking about getting into sports card collecting NOW, it’s too late. Good luck finding the next Lebron or Brady until about 2040, bc only those guys have cards who compete in value to the rarest MJ’s (from the mid 1980’s and beyond. Rare Kobe’s are also insanely valuable)

    I've never been a basketball fan. I only ever watched a couple basketball games - during the play-offs where MJ and the Bulls won their third championship. I watched them because of my friend Fred. He was a big fan from Chicago. He commented on how much he hoped the Bulls would win in the up-coming play-offs.
    I told him, "Of course the Bulls will win."
    He said, "How do you know?"
    I said, "The other team has a lot of good players, and the Bulls have a lot of good players, right?
    And he said, "Yeah."
    "So add to that, MJ."
    He said, "I like that analysis."
    I was so sure, and the point spread so small, that I put money on it.

    The thing is Jordan had really nothing to do with the Nike deal except show up and then sign the contract. Jordan didn't want anything to do with Nike, he wanted Adidas. Falk went to Nike, Vacarro pushed Nike, and his Mom practically scolded Jordan to go to the meeting. Even while there Jordan was less than interested at first, and hated the color scheme, calling them "devil shoes"
    The great thing about Air Jordans are they are stylish, different than any other basketball, or sneaker look at the time, and I find them extremely comfortable. He had Everything to do with the design of the shoes and had he not stuck with them, approving the design of the shoes (not always the look), Nike would still be No. 3 in the sports shoe industry. He told his mother what he wanted the deal to look like, they presented it to Nike, Nike execs wanted to turn it down, "suppose he gets hurt or something, or doesn't turn out to be the great player he and his family thinks he is--the deal is too much". Michael wanted his name on the shoe, a percentage of every pair sold, etc. Nike execs were ready to turn it down, but finally Nike agreed, BUT, they said the shoe would have to recoup $3 million in the first 3 years to continue the deal. The shoe made $126 MILLION in the FIRST year, and the rest is history. Jordan's name and talent was what sold the shoe--NOTHING else.
