Genius, the reason your dogs did not attack is because their sense of smell is 1000 times greater than ours, and they knew it was their master. Good job fixing the fence. It looks great.

Lol. Surprised you didn't get the cops called out by the neighbors. Beautiful dogs. Watching them makes me want to grab some tennis balls and go out in the yard to play with them until they're ready to "drink and drop".
Step one of survival: Beautiful loyal dogs like these that are more than capable of defending the family. All else comes second.

  • @lucidmoses

In case 100 people haven't pointed it out yet. Dogs #1 method of recognition is not sight, it's smell. Adding a bunch of different smells has no affect on removing yours.
Also, you didn't need the fence at all if it's for the dogs. Their instincts are to have a home range. As long as they respect you, all you had to do is show them where the boundaries are. That's how farmers do it if they don't want their dogs hit by snowmobiles running along the ditch. But anyway. No harm putting up fence.

I have collies. 6 at the moment. Daughter was very interested in showing. She was given a beautiful smooth collie who had a bad eye check. I was there when the vet said she would be fine, but not any good for breeding. That was 12 years ago.
Patches has been blind for 11 years. She has run numerous 5k races for animal charities, can still run a modified agility course, plays hide and go seek with me FAR better than the sighted dogs. I dropped a single M&M on the floor the other day. I brought her into the room because I couldn't find it. She knew I'd dropped it, found it, and pointed. (Trained not to eat what they find on the floor) I retrieved it and gave her a dried sweet potato treat

Yep, though when there is a threat, a fence won't hold them. What I think I heard Haxman say, generally, is he wants to buy some time to be made aware of and assess the threat before the dogs act on their own. Fence *might* buy *some* time, if done right, but really not likely.
Haxman picked two dogs that are bred to do whatever they put their mind to and have the physical capabilities to carry it out no matter what.

Years ago our large gentle male Labrador loved everyone, but hated the guy who would hang advertisement baggies on our front doorknob. I told him many times to leave the baggy in our box because of the dogs reaction, which was unusual for him. One day the dog was out back, he came running full bore thru the garage doggy door, thru the house doggy door and straight thru the dining room window to get that guy. The window stopped the dog. The vet bill was $700 and that poor guy is probably still running. Never saw another baggy on my doorknob though. Never underestimate the protective nature of a dog.

My dad did the same things with me, even how to fix my car. I don't regret one moment spent with him. I grew up not needing someone to do things for me, I could do them myself. I married a long haul truck driver and most of the time he wasn't home. Dad's lessons served me well. My mom taught me How to sew, make home made soap, jelly's, How to cook, do laundry, And dad taught me how to hang drywall ,roof a house and lay pipelines. I miss them terribly but Life goes on with or without you. I also have the same combo of dogs, A German shepherd and Belgium Malinois. My BMD is my female Hayla and my GSD Kayza. KAyza will run forever chasing a ball and Hayla will run forever chasing Kayza. She doesn't give a fig about the ball. He will bark, she is silent, and she will be the one to get you. They are a good team he distracts while she goes in for the kill. She's also jet black, and at night you will never see what hit you.

  • @jcpt928

I disagree on this. I would do it the way you did it, so that you can remove the welded wire fence later - either when you no longer want it
eed it, or when it deteriorates and needs replacing. The wooden fence is likely to last in visibly acceptable condition far longer than the welded wire fence [which is a pain in the ass to keep painted].

Here in south Florida they steal dogs. It is common to bait them and get then to escape than get netted and taken away. It would be a nightmare to take that fence apart with ring shank nails. Too bad you were not able to make a higher fence. 6 foot chain link is my favorite because I can get it used and install cheap. Unlike wood it lasts a lifetime. I think you came up with a clever solution.

Me and my 26 yr old son are the preppers for our family. I've been prepping a little and learning for about 2 yrs. My 26 yr old made garden boxes for me since my lawn has had spray on it. We wanted organic. My husband is kind of interested but let's us do it all. My 24 yr old wants to buy a freeze dryer cuz he likes science!🤣 Gonna buy a freeze dryer and do what you guys did. And the buckets I like. The ones I bought aren't as good. The ones you got are like my chlorine lids when we had a pool. (Only gonna use food grade😂) I like the ones you used for seal and you can screw them off! Especially for some foods Im trying to keep and use too.
I think the guys did the fence awesome and I feel you did a great job and saved money fixing it. It looks great and the black wire makes it look like you planned the whole thing out. Great colors together!
With the dogs just wondering about the little black and white one that comes out. Is it a dog or little goat? Can't zoom enough to see but was thinking I could see it bark??? Whatever it is it's cute. And they are all really beautiful! Glad they are trained that way for your family's safety! God bless you!! ✝️

I'd have gone with that nice looking wooden fence and add a product called 'The Invisible Fence'. Of course, I'm a techy kind of guy (electronics engineer). Check out this buried piece of wire that uses proximity to trigger a correction (reminder) type dog collar system. It actually works without the wooden fence. BTW, a bottle of your own urine dripped conservatively at your property line while on a 'perimeter check' with your dog reminds them that 'the pack leader has marked the boundary... And did it with purpose. Dogs are smart that way! :)

….also NEVER use welded wire since it can’t be stretched. Use 2x4 high tensile horse fence instead. When stretched properly it will take all the abuse you can throw at it and look beautiful to boot.

Ahh. I never even thought about that. See, that’s why I’m not in the fence business. 😄 I’m not a “successful contractor” 😉

I think the wire looks good and if a piece gets damaged it can be replaced. What I want to know is what you do on your spare time to have those crazy gloves🤣Thanks for the video Adam!!!😁👍🚜💨💡

Say what you will, but replacing a damaged portion of YOUR fence wire will be much easier than if it was installed in the front... Think about it. Love to hear the story behind the purchase of the gauntlets sometime. Cheers.

How come not use an invisible fence? Eventually they would get so used to it you wouldn’t even have to have the dogs wear the collars anymore. Just a suggestion. Those pups have hops! Haha

I think your fence turned out just fine with that wiring. I think you made good of a bad situation. You're corny but you got a good heart I like your videos.

I can hear my Dad yelling:" TIN SNIPS ARE NOT WIRE CUTTERS!" As he snatched them out of my hand. Yea, Id do the wire just like you at that point. Not taking all the boards off. Maybe another board on the bottom?

On my farm we just attach the field fence to the back side of the posts. Shocked you didn’t do this.

What about a 4" to 6" trench along the bottom of the fence to embed the wire into concrete that will fill it? Or do your dogs never dig?

Wouldn't it be easier if the curve of the wire was facing the fence?

16' Cattle panels would have been easier, but no fun either way.

If it works then it's not the wrong way. It's exactly the way I did mine. It's more work but less material and easier to replace or fix of needed.
