The Golf Swing Made Simple

  • This video is basically how I swing the golf club. I golfed last weekend, and I can tell that I will have a great 2024 on the golf course. Creating this channel has given me the chance to fine tune my own goif swing to perfection (for my age anyway) as I teach others. Because of my disability, I've had to make simple adjustments because I cannot move like most people. Luckily, I started at a young age and have grown in this knowledge I can pass on to others. Today's video will focus on my basic swing. Others will deal with shot-making, moving the ball high or low, left to right, or right to left. I'm sure chipping and my short game techniques and putting will also be revisited. Thank you to all my subscribers who have kept me going for the past 14 months.

    Great, simple clear and concise instruction, beats all the mumbo jumbo we see on YT.

    Tony, your instructions here you say are for people with physical limitations whether flexibility or otherwise.For sure but it’s also a swing well suited to seniors and that’s what I’m getting from your videos. I’m trading slightly less distance for much better accuracy and better scoring. Beautiful!😁

      Thank you. I was lucky to have just a touch of CP. But you are right being older has robbed me of my flexibility and yes - seniors can benefit from the videos coming as well. Like they say, “It takes one to know one...” Great to have you watching.

    I am inspired by your mindset. I'm 76--and I've got to stop trying to play like I did when i was 46.I was a different golfer then, and that guy is never coming back.

    there are too many good things that I've learned in this short video to list, but I mostly appreciate your ability to show me how to overcome... I'm inspired by your dedication to the basics, many of which I may have forgotten from time to time. kudos...

    Thanks so much for this video. I've had to re-learn golf after a 5-year layoff due to lower back problems. I cannot swing as aggressively as I used to. Really appreciate your insight and will try re-build my swing using less effort. Thanks again!

    The King said it best "swing your swing". I used a conventional swing for 30 years and it was great. Injuries made me alter that swing into something quite different. Almost every time I play, I get golfers that I can easily beat tell me how I should be doing it. All about getting that club to square impact with some speed.

      Young golfers don’t realize that one day they will still feel great but the won’t be able to move as they once did-and it can be a shocker for some.

      You and everyone else-- I think that's why we love it- focussing on you game takes all the other concerns of your life away for a brief
      Movement. People sometimes ask me if I meditate, I say “no, I golf…”

    Thanks for sharing. Simple swing with results. Do you keep the ball just off-of center for most of the clubs? How high you tee the ball for driver? top of the ball to the crown of the club?

    • @TheForgottenGolfer
      @TheForgottenGolfer  Місяць тому

      Yes I keep the ball positioning the same for most shots. The driver is slightly up more, the short irons are slightly back more. The length of the club dictates this, but I'm talking by the inch. See how you feel at the driving range when you are practicing- the spot the ball hits the club and the flight of the ball will give you an indication where it feels right. Now your divots will also give you a clue. They should be straight at the target if you are trying to hit a “straight” shot.
      The driver I tee 50/50 - half the ball above the top of the driver. (I do use a Callaway Mini driver set to 14° of loft)

    Check out books by Ernest Jones and Manuel Dela Torre. Ernest Jones was a high level golfer who lost his leg in WW I. He had to figure out how to golf again after losing his leg and wrote books, taught and played to a scratch.

    Tony I'm new to your channel and I have bad knees and lower back .could you tell me how far you hit your 7 iron and woods

    • @TheForgottenGolfer
      @TheForgottenGolfer  25 днів тому

      Swinging smooth and easy 7 iron 130yds & hybrid 130-150yds HEAVEN/7 wood 160-195yds. And Callaway Mini Driver 14° loft--195-220yards. And I play the senior tees.

    What do u think in downswing? How u bring club to square to the ball?

    • @TheForgottenGolfer
      @TheForgottenGolfer  24 дні тому

      I believe its not a forced action - the downswing for me is the product of a gentle lateral move to your front foot after establishing the proper swing plane set up by the upswing. So basically aiming correctly, taking the club back on swing plane as your weight shifts gently to the inside of your back foot, Following by the weight shifting to your front foot, your wrists are loose enough to keep the angle as you contact the ball on plane. The weaker your grip, the more your arms will turn into the ball, the stronger the grip the more your hips will have to lead your arms with less rotation into the ball.

    Hey Tony ,I’m 67 and hyper flexible ,is it preferable to have an wide stance with Irons if Physically Possible ?

    • @TheForgottenGolfer
      @TheForgottenGolfer  Місяць тому

      Well the easy answer is to go to the range and try it out to see what works for you. I would think a little wider may be, yes on your mid to long irons. Short irons no.

    • @peterweber4094
      @peterweber4094 Місяць тому

      Don’t stand too wide. If you are flexible it’s grt. Look at Fred Couples’ swing. Long and languid, and not standing too wide. Another example is David Duval, not a wide stance at all. As someone said range of motion will always beat technique. And as Tony here said tempo and timing is key.

    Right thumb is at the ball but not pointing at it that would create a weak slice

      Very true - you have no idea how many golfers at the ranges I go to are trying to swing like Tommy Fleetwood and they shank ball after ball.
