Neither invested in L-Mount nor usually interested in super-zoom lenses, but being small and light with weather sealing and a very useful focal range plus macro capabilities this looks like a really nice lens for hiking!
Nice video and I really like the singer at 4:44. Great performance. At similar moments, people forget about all those sharpness vignette etc and become hipnotyzed by meaningful things. That doesn't mean gear doesn't matter. Just sometimes it is not as important as it is on a lens review.
It's not landscape only zoom.:) It's just-walk-zoom lens. Good for walk on the park or on the city or on the travel. One lens for landscape, repo, portrait and tele to shot some birds or squirrel in the park.:) One to all.:)
Thank you for the great review! Wonderful pictures! Hoping this lens means a new FF body is on the way, ans this will get bundled as a kit lens. I read that Lumix did a similar thing with the 20-60 a few years ago.
I have seen this on other videos too- no darkening when going from f/4-7.1 even though the exposure value keeps going more negative on the lcd display. Why is this??? Great video. It makes me consider full frame after using M4/3 for years. Would be fun to try out full frame now that there are such nice compact lenses! Might go for an S5ii on Black Friday here in the US.
it's not something I have experienced with this lens. It could be something to do with firmware version though. M4/3 prices are not lower anymore. Full frame is more accessible than ever before now
@@PavSZ The only thing about FF that bothers me is that the 2.8 OIS Lumix lenses are so heavy and expensive. M4/3 35-100 costs $847 and weighs 12.7 oz. The 70-200 L mount 2.8 lens is $2,198 and weighs 3.45 lbs. This is my only concern. I am so used to have light weight affordable lenses, it's hard for me to justify paying more for heavier glass... But I love the compact L mount 14-28, 28-200 and the series of 1.8 compact primes all with the same filter size. This is why I am planning to get the S5ii :)
I liked how the last 2 releases of Lumix S (100mm macro and this) focused to be the lightest and smallest in the market, which is compelling for me. I'm certainly swap my Sigma 105mm macro for Lumix 100mm, and I'll also add this to my kit. I liked the 20-60mm, but I rarely use the wider end and wished for a further reach, so this range is quite perfect for me. The aperture, while on paper seems bad, is actually comparable to 20-60mm in the same focal length and can focus even closer! Thank you for a great review!
yes, they are smashing it with these lenses now. It ius easy to dismiss this (or 20-60mm) because on paper they don't look great. In reality these two are two of the most versatile and best lenses I have used in a long time
@@PavSZ The 20-60mm is also so cheap when bought with the kit, it's like adding only $200, which is a no brainer for lens this good. The price when bought new standalone though is much less appealing, but thanksfully there is a lot of this in second hand market (mostly from the kit) for those that look for it.
Great video thanks a lot , one question, can you say me if you prefer the quality of the Picture on this one or if you prefer the quality of the sigma 24-70 2.8 ?
they are two totally different lenses. The quality would be very close in terms of sharpness, colour, contrast at the same aperture settings. However Sigma is bigger, heavier and have significantly wider aperture. This has got much bigger zoom range and the telephoto end, less wide though
I feel like this lens was made for me. So happy it's finally made. I am a amateur travel photographer and I really hate the idea of switching lenses or carrying unnecessary bulk and drawing attention to myself. I am transitioning over from a Canon R7 with the 18-150mm kit lens (28-240mm FF), which is already quite small and similar to this kind of setup with the S5 II, but the quality of that setup was really lackluster to me. It doesn't come close to the quality which this lens seemingly provides, and I'm only sacrificing 40mm reach on the long end, and 8 megapixels sensor wise, but this new setup opens up a whole different arena to shoot video as well! Preordered this lens after watching this, thank you for helping me decide. Beautiful macro shots, by the way!
I have many different camera lenses for my camera bodies. The last lens l bought for my Panasonic S5 and S5 MKII is a 70-300mm f4.5-5.6. The IBIS in the lens and S5 MKII allows for extremely sharp photos at slow shutter speeds.
I have Lumix S2x and 50mm 1.8 lens , so what is your opinion if i buy this lens as well , will it be fully enough both those lens for all scenarios in real world
@@artursmyrnov1662 no, it does not mean that. I can't say that those two lenses will be everything that you need. It depends on what for and how you use them
ISO 4000 is only for VLOG profile right? When you are taking photos in STD, are you supposed to stay at 640? Does it even matter for RAW? Do RAW files benefit from dual ISO?
What would you recommend instead for a single travel/content creator lens? I have 20-60, 50mm and a Tamron 90mm macro. I find it too time consuming to switch lenses on vacations. I also feel like I’m lacking depth of field in the 20-35mm focal length. I’m thinking sigma 16-28mm. But then I’m missing a good 35mm option. Also with the 1.5x crop in video I always find I’m shooting around the 50mm focal length unintentionally 🤔
We need a smaller 70-200 f/2.8 from LUMIX 😅. I’ve been holding on to my massive Canon 70-200 f/2.8 plus Adapter for this reason. It’s the one lens I’m never excited to carry for travel work.
Great review as always. It seems like the ideal one lens for daytime travel photography. Then in the evening you take the 18mm f1.8 and a 28-70 f2.8 a heavier combination but you’re not carrying it around for long. Also the new 100 f2.8 is already on my list, L mount just gets better.
the sony rx10iv has better image quality than full frame cameras with approx 24-200mm zoom lens attached. has this lens managed to break that barrier and actually bring increased image quality?
this is a very wild claim. Sony RX10IV has got tiny 1" and very noisy sensor build in. Nice camera but quality wise all Sony full frame cameras will be better. This is also much higher quality on Lumix S5II. Not only almost no noise at ISO4000 (S5, S5II, S5IIx) but the lens is optically very solid too.
Nice! I prefer a bridge camera though. That Panasonic FZ2500 is cheaper than this lens and has 20 megapixels, a nice 24mm-480mm Leica lens, IBIS, built in ND filter and shoots 4:2:2 10 bit 4K video. It's a shame these companies have stopped making newer bridge cameras but they need to protect their mirrorless camera lines.
I don't like idea of this lens, with very dark end. Much better would be a exp. 24-150 or 24-135 with aperature from f/3.5 to f/5.6 or f/6.3 max on the end. It's looks like as ugly Canon's trend of lenses, darker than the should be with f/4.5 on beggining and f/7.1 on the end. Video of course very good and great review. :)
it only looks like it is not good enough on paper. In real world situations, in daytime, this lens is very good. if it had wider aperture, it would be much bigger. The size of it, makes it ideal lens for hiking or travelling with. One lens for everything
@@PavSZ This lens could be, and should be a bigger and heavier for better light and no one shouldn't critise for that. That range simply requires larger size and weight. 😉 CANON'S TRENDS WE SAY NO! 😁😅
Thanks for the review, it seems like the ideal daytime holiday lens, and for the evening shots you take out your faster primes 18mm f1.8, 24-70 f2.8. Heavier but you’re not carrying them around for as long. Job done, glass of wine.
I LOVE the footage of the street musician! those presets are gorgeous ;)
that was totally accidental! Thanks dude!

Finally, a good walking around and travel lens for S mount. Too bad about the F4+, but I like the weight/range. Thanks.
it is a trade of for the size. f7.1 at 200mm is totally usable and we have light and very small zoom
Wow, love your shots man! Thanks again

I’m holding out for the 16-300 f 2.8
If it was possible, it would be very big and very heavy.
I am holding out for the 8mm-800mm 1.8/f O.I.S with 10cm minimal focus distance...
I wish Tamron would start making lenses for lumix as well. I own their 28 to 200 and the 2.8 aperture makes it so epic
Me too. Maybe one day
how is it in video on 200mm on that 4000 iso ? in low light acceptable?
How does it compare to 24-100 f/4 for landscape photography, assuming I don't need more than 100mm focal length ?
The darker image is minimal
And you can get around that by setting at the longer fstop before you zoom
yes.
Camera's dual ISO and lens' build in stabilisation make it totally usable in every situation

what you are asking for does not exist.
You could try Sigma 24-70 f2.8 or simply 16-28 and 35 or 50mm
Woah nice. I dont have s5ii but instead s5. Do you recommend this lense ?
absolutely
yes, the autofocus of the 28-200mm is better than the 20-60mm for the s5

yes, bridge cameras are great but you can't compare a bridge camera to a full frame camera and lens combo. Totally different tools for different jobs.
I would really like for someone to review it on the Leica SL2. After all Leica and Lumix have their collaborative partnership.
If someone will lend me Leica SL2 (or any Leica) I'll test it on it then
Good lens, but I prefer Sigma 2870/2.8 more, same size/weight/price.
good lens for sure but this has got much bigger reach, important to some people
On paper seems worse than the fantastic Tamron 28-200mm f2.8-5.6 for Sony, almost one full stop across all the range. But still worth trying...
but there is no Tamron for L-mount available.
Very good lens in its own right ... and it is smaller than Tamron
