❤❤❤ You are awesome for doing this! I am learning so much from you and others and I've had my ileostomy bag since 2007. I will be asking my PC Doctor about tests as I am 66 and having new problems. ❤️🕊️🙏 Love, Peace Prayers
Nate, I wrote a very long comment to this great video last night immediately after you posted it. Went into depth of my journey. It is not here!! Have you seen it floating around? 🤷♀️ Was midnight when I completed writing it. I don't remember what else may have posted after or before...maybe it went there.
@@user-SueS There's always something going on with our unique bodies isn't there?! Thank you for that comment. I'm still learning a lot too and trying to help where I can! 🙏
@@pamela-gw7xo I'm sorry Pamela, I can't find it. I know you must've put some important time and thought into it, but don't feel too bad. I really appreciate you being here regardless!! UA-cam comments can be so tricky. I'm always finding random ones that I never got notifications for! LOL
OK. First of all, you are a smart guy. Smarter than I was at your age. I’m 63, female, ileostomy for 34 years due to Crohn’s. I’ve been around the block. I’ve never had a doc say that they wished I hadn’t come to see them. I have had them say Why did you wait so long? This would have been easier to take care of if you’d come in months ago. Lesson learned. Love your channel. It’s nice to chat with others that have walked a similar path. No one knows your body like you do. Keep smiling! ☺️
Well thank you, you're so kind! I'm trying to learn and help as much as I can. You've had an incredible adventure with all of this. I really appreciate you sharing. It is tough when you realize that you've waited too long to sort out something medical. That would be great if this helps at least one person get something checked out and solved in good time! I will definitely keep smiling, you do that same!
Glad everything is ok. Good thing you are listening to your body. Too many people don't. But I think those of us with stomas tend to be more observant.
Thank you! You're absolutely right. We learn to be much more in tune than the general population. If we let ourselves, we can gain a lot of strength and wisdom from these medical experiences.
I'm sorry that you experience anxiety like that! It is actually so weird. I've seen it affect me physically a little here and there throughout my life and never thought much of it, but this year it hit me like a ton of bricks. Very strange experience! On the flip side, lots of nurses and doctors told me I shouldn't be alive, or actually asked me how I'm alive, and I just tell them I have a great attitude and a lot of faith.
I totally understand the feeling that something isn't right. All of us who have chronic health issues have learned that we have to be strong self-advocates. It's so important to listen to your body and get things checked out.
I now have my 2nd parastomal hernia. Yay. I didn't have my stoma moved for the 1st repair but the 2nd hernia manifested rather quickly. I did have a CT scan and it's omental fat filling it rather than part of my colon so, although I had this one for about 8 months now, I am desperately trying to lose weight before I get it repaired again (I am also afraid my surgeon is going to tell me that the location of the stoma will have to be moved). I am not super overweight but all of the extra weight I do have is in my belly (damn post menopausal weight is a bear to lose). I recently had a colonoscopy and that probably made the hernia worse. (My stoma is due to cancer so scopes and scans are something I am far too familiar with.) I am glad you are doing well!!
Thank you for the well wishes! I hope I didn't make you feel bad by talking about all of things that I was nervous about. With ostomates, sometimes hernias can be out of our control. It sounds like you're handling it well, or at least trying to and that means everything in these situations! I'm hoping that all goes well and it can all be taken care of in a way that you want! Let's keep going 😊
Hi Nate, so happy you are ok. I love watching your videos. I had rectal cancer and that is why I have an ostomy. I used to get ct scans of chest, abdomen and pelvis every 3 months, now down to once a year. Cannot handle the oral contrast at all, it's like doing a colonoscopy prep lol . I only get the iv which is always manually put in. Anyway glad you are ok keep listening to your body.❤
Thank you, Mary! I'm trying to make more videos lol! Sounds like you're a real scanning pro. That's interesting that the IV contrast has always been done manually for you. Do they have a hard time putting it in? My nurse was really struggling with the syringe. She triple checked everything and still had to use all of her strength to push it in. I felt bad. I'm glad you don't have to get your scans done as often anymore. Take care ❤
Glad it turned out fine! I really enjoy your videos. You just have the best and brightest smile! When I see your videos it makes me happy! Glad Maggie recommended your channel.
I've been putting off making an ophthalmology appointment because my insurance changed; I can go back to my original one, who is amazing, but the thought of having to reestablish care, and then possibly have to switch again next year (so after one appointment) is daunting. I'm supposed to go every 6 months, but my last appointment was over a year ago. Telling myself it's probably fine because I've been stable for years, and she expects it to stay that way. I'm not the kind of person who puts off the important things, but the extra hassle is the problem here.
I totally understand! I actually don't even have an established relationship with a GI doc in my city, because I haven't heard anything good about any of them. It makes me so nervous to establish care with someone who has my life in their hands. I hope you get everything figured out in the way you want and continue to have stable health!
I'm glad your test results came back good but I'm sorry you don't have a resolution as to why you're getting stomach aches now. I'm only 8 months with my colostomy but have learned that I can eat a cereal bowl size of salad but not a serving size bowl and I can eat 2 pieces of extra cheese pizza but not 3 pieces - otherwise I get a "blockage" feeling stomach ache that takes about 4 hours to pass. I know you've had your stoma longer and things are feeling different now to the way you eat than they felt before. Prayers that you find a solution. 💞🙏
Thanks Jenny! Welcome to the club! You're doing great for 8 months out. Keep experimenting and learning as much as you can. It'll be so helpful in the long run! I was scared of veggies for a LONG time 😂 It's awesome that you're also checking things out online like this. There is so much info available to us on the internet now, it's great. I pray that things keep going well with your colostomy!!
Hi dear Nate, so happy you're fine. So - much ado about nothing... This time. Well, my healthy digestive tract 😊 helps me to find out = 'digest' what I'm REALLY worried about... Sometimes the doctors can help confirming there's nothing in the body. I personally go better trying to find own solutions = growing up step by step😉. Stay happy n healthy❤!

What about adhesions? I had been through a barrage of testing ( scans/barium/ect). Everything "normal" when looking for adhesions. I just had surgery for some pelvic organ prolapse and that surgeon was surprised at how many adhesions I had. It added 1.5 hours to the surgery and I don't think he was able to get it all. Organs stuck together/stuck to the abdominal wall/stuck to the pelvic floor. So just a thought if it continues. Good luck!
They don't tend to show up well on imaging (unless there's a obvious blockage or a really well trained radiologist). I has some Ct/MRI/barium studies that "didn't show adhesions". I had enrocele/cystocele/rectocele and when the surgeon went in to fix that, they found the adhesions. At least it verified what I had thought!
As an ostomate, I look for consistency. Changes are to be sensed and interpreted. Variations in hydration, nutrition, activity, sleep, and general attitude seem to be considerations I make when my output is abnormal or, God forbid, I've experienced discomfort. Bottom line is to be Alfred E. Neuman about life. You're almost better off blissfully ignorant! Stress kills.
Thank you for this comment! Yes, stress has been enemy #1 this year. Very weird! I've had my ostomy for a long time and now things like sleep and hydration are noticeably different. I still prefer all of this to pre-ostomy life though(that was a nightmare lol). We just adapt and keep fighting!
