    This is a reality check vlog for all of us who think, easy money,buy a cheap car,tart it up and sell on at a profit".
    We went to see a ' small' crash damaged car at a yard in Nottingham years ago (as I had a stupid idea that I could sort it out on my drive) 😲
    I learnt on that day that, what the trade think is an easy fix,and what I thought was an easy fix were miles apart.

    my last 2 cars have been damaged repaired, but badly repaired, i look them over in great detail and get a good discount for the poor workmanship, and i still miss some things, your guy has charged top money and had the apprentice or a chancer do the repair i guess, maybe they just need to visit spec savers ? lol

    Phil. Put the private plate number into the DVLA tax data base and look when the last log book was issued. That will give you an idea when the transfer took place give or take a week or so. assuming of course that the private plate is on another car now of course.
    .

    • @williamwoods8022
      @williamwoods8022 3 роки тому

      The personal reg belongs to the person that paid for it to be assigned to them. It is not assigned to the car. If that person sells the car with the reg number then they have got to fill out a form assigning the number to the new owner of that plate same if they are just assigning the number to someone else and then the car will be returned to its original number - the new owner has to pay £80/90 for the transfer but if the original owner is keeping the personal number but selling the car and not putting it on another car then they do not have to pay. My friend is having to go through this just now so that they can sell her deceased brother in laws car - his brother wants to keep the personal number and she cannot assign the number to him or sell the car until the lawyer provides the proof that she is the executor of the estate so it must have been the original owner who transferred the number on that Mini as no one else can. Of course when it was being sold by Copart it should have said on the paperwork etc relating to that sale that the reg number was not included.

    Phil, regarding the RCZR, unfortunately I’ve seen worse than that over my past fifty years experience. If you have expectations, then my advice is firstly, never use a new company that you don’t know. Secondly, strip out everything they don’t need as reference to keep it safe. Thirdly, with your resources and skills, (after initially getting it pulled) do the finishing and painting yourself! 😊

    A bit of a nightmare all round, with regards the plate its never cut and dry. Private plates are not part of the car, they have an owner who chooses to assign that plate to the vehicle they own and can remove them at any time. You can't steal something you own so I guess the owner simply decided to take the plate off the car which they can do at any time provided they have the V750 certificate of entitlement. I would take issue with the people who supplied you the car as if they advertised the car as private plate included they have broken trading laws unless they owned the title to the plate which clearly they didn't as it was removed by the owner! Really enjoy your content so don't let it get you down.

    HI Phil, could tell something was wrong by watching the last two or three videos,now i can understand why.For the money you paid there should be no sign of damage at all in the boot,still a poor job dont you think.A decent bodyshop would not have sent a car out in that state.Was it a proper bodyshop that did the repair?.As you said you would a better job yourself.As for copart we never bought a car from them without viewing first and also over half the cars they auction are not thiere own contract salvage vehicles,a lot are third party vehicles.all sorts of crap is being sold by them We have stopped buying front end damaged vehicles due to cost of price of parts.A lot of the time you can new parts from dealers cheaper than buying second hand.PS as the red astra gone ?Is the mini worth throwing £3000 at the front end on top of what you have spent on it so far,what is it worth as its not a genuine works car?.Anyway best of luck for what ever you decide,we will keep following you,and phil keep smiling.

    Phil,
    I know it didn't go too well the last time you named and shamed, but in this case i think you should report these people to the trade body? I am of course assuming they are a proper bodyshop and not some mates rated organisation?
    I crashed my slk about 10 years ago and it needed a new bumper and a chassis leg straightening. It was done under insurance at a Mercedes approved body shop in the UK. When it came back they had spared both front wings and the bonnet. The paint work was full of masking overspray and scratched (it was 4 years old when it went in and looked like a mirror). The parking sensors don't work etc. They had it a second time and then it came back about 50% sorted so i phone the insurance company. The assessor came out and without any hassle agreed to me getting it fixed at a Mercedes garage off my choice. Long story short it went back to Germany (where i was living) and it cost €10k to our right everything they had done wrong, including an almost complete respray (remember it only needed the new front bumper painting) and they were told by the insurance assessor to pay the bill (which they did).
    In your case they treat panel is almost ok but the boot is shocking, forget about the filler holes, it doesnt even match the curve of the original.
    Good luck.

  • @alexmorgan3435

    Did you pay by credit card, in full or any part of the bill? If so make a claim under s.75 of the Consumer Credit Act against your card provider Visa, MasterCard, Amex, etc., for the shoddy workmanship. You will be surprised. You might well get a full refund. You might need an independent motor engineer's report costing several hundred pounds and obtain further quotes to have the work done properly, but you would likely get this back as well. Also you have given these cowboys the opportunity to make good their shoddy work, but they have clearly failed. The credit card route saves you taking these cowboys to the Small Claims Court. Even if you did win in court which is probably highly likely then you would have to enforce the judgement and likely instruct bailiffs costing you more. These cowboys might then put their company into liquidation meaning you would get nothing of the debt owed you, having spent a shed load of cash chasing the debt. Seriously if you paid by Visa, MasterCard or other credit card make a claim under s.75 of the CCA which allows you to enforce your statutory rights against your card provider. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Instructing a solicitor will cost a fortune and your costs are unlikely to be recoverable at a Small Claims Court just expenses. Good luck.

  • @GG-im1cb
    @GG-im1cb 3 роки тому

    The difficulty is that anyone can open a garage / body shop and there’s absolutely no regulation as to the competency of the people working on your cars, most also have zero liability insurance if they make an arse of it, or their work causes an accident or injury. This has been especially bad in recent years with the rise of “UA-cam trained technicians” and cheap migrant labour, working on a cash only basis paying no tax etc, which has put a lot bonafide businesses out of the game.
    I served a 4 year apprenticeship as a panel beater and got my City and Guilds NVQ level 3, and I always had my certificates up on the wall for all to see along with my liability insurance and accredited motor trade association memberships.
    I’ve also done lots of work for folk who buy and sell salvage, however most DIY’ers overestimate the value of the repaired car and underestimate the cost of repairing.
    TBH I would only buy cars that you can repair yourself as it’s often uneconomical to have others do it for you, especially if your doing them to sell. That said the job on the Peugeot is a awful and you shouldn’t have parted with a penny for it in that shit state.

  • @Mudster250
    @Mudster250 3 роки тому +1

  • @steveegginton535
    @steveegginton535 3 роки тому

    You have certainly had bad luck on those two cars. The work on the RCZ is shocking - shouldn't have really paid up till you were satisfied with the work. Is the bodyshop a member of the NBRA if so could you raise the situation with them? Would seem a shame to break the Mini and it might take a long time before all its parts were sold. Having said that parts seem crazy prices and you will need to make a business decission at some point.

    I commented on the first video you should "buy and fit a new trunk floor, it's a big job but it's better content than paying someone to pull it out plus would be a good learning experience".
    Why pay big money for a bodge job and no content. In the big scheme of things it was a small repair that was well worth tackling yourself and could propel you to buy cars with more extensive damage with the experience. Hopefully the positive from this experience is you'll be more willing to attempt it yourself next time because I'm 100% certain you'd have done a much better job than the guys who did that, and it would have been great content too

  • @robertmoss279

    Regarding the Minis P/Plate, when a car is stolen or written off the plate is still owned by the previous owner. The previous owner needs to write a letter to the insurance company or lost adjuster asking for them to “have or show no interest in the P/P” When this has been asked for most of the time it’s granted and the P/P is returned. Once returned the previous owner can not use the P/P for 12 months.
    How do I know this? It happened to me when our Golf was stolen, just remember this when bidding on an insurance write off. There is lots of stuff happening in the back round that your not aware of 😐
    Good channel, great content 👍

    Jesus Christ for a 2k repair on the RCZ-R i would expect that boot floor to be in pristine condition and not even the slightest kink anywhere, i would seriously try and go for some sort of payment back from those cowboys, or try trading standards, As for the cooper s, maybe chuck it back into salvage market and then sell the wheels and stuff you bought on eBay try get your money back , but the decision at the end of the day is all yours.

    Oil leak. Almost certainly the timing chain tensioner. Very common. Will need to carefully put a jack under the sump with a block of wood or something. Remove the engine mount and carefully lower the engine, and it will tilt forward. Remove the induction pipe and the air filter. The chain tensioner is at the rear of the engine. The new type tensioner has I dimple in the middle of the hexagon head. Ideally fit a new tensioner and washer or just retighten the existing one. They are always bloody loose and therefore leak oil.

    That repair on the pug is pretty disgraceful (Dont go down the route of name and shame it aint worth the repercussions Phil). Move forward and try to stay positive (easy for me to say ) The motor trade has always had dodgy geezers thats why Salvage isnt easy to sell . The mini no plate teaches us all a lesson not to assume. Classic salvage car with very little information other than very basics and a few pictures which are normally taken by a true professional skirting round the real damage. I hope things start to go a little easier for yousoon bud.

    Just fix the mini, it’s only going to decrease in value while it sits there while you try and get the plate back,

    Surely the date you bought the car has nothing to do with it. It should be the date the insurance company paid out on the car is then is their property and they sold it in the advert with the reg on

    Hello Phill have you priced the parts for the mini new recently I bought a car it needed quite a lot of parts so looked on eBay total cost was 1200 for used parts delivered so went to bmw & bought new parts 1100 ? People have gone mad fixing cars they forget there might not be a profit in them, when bidding 🤨 I would suggest never buy a car damaged or not assuming you will get the reg that’s basic rule when bidding on them at auction.
    You need to move on either scrap it or sell as is and take you profit or loss it won’t get any better sitting in the shed gathering dust.
    But best wishes for your Chanel and the future 😊

    Phil, I'm sure repairing the Mini would make good content, especially as the front end seems to be what gets damaged a lot on these cars. But at the end of the day you don't want to be out of pocket !!
