As someone who is pretty much clueless about music except for "that sounds neat", when he actually plays alongside a song they actually sound kinda neat.
For reference this is roughly the musical equivalent of playing a classical music song with the only drums being a gong. China symbols are memes. It's interesting watching this guy toss around cymbals in a couple of different instances while I only have high hats and a single crash cymbal, and struggle with planning my budget for stands and whatever 20-50 dollar cymbals I can find.
This is the first time I've been able to hear a difference in cymbal types! Sorta! I'll say this, a couple of them really sounded trashy, but I didn't hate the hi-hats for the most part.
I took the idea of using an x-hat mount for Chinas from Roy mayorga. I took a 18” China for the bottom and for the top I used a 16” cheap b8 crash. Best stack I’ve ever used besides the dedicated zildjian fx stacks

If you want to hear a great piece of music that features China Cymbals, I highly recommend the "Seymour Battle" theme from Final Fantasy 10; specifically the original release of FF10 since the remaster re-orchestrates parts of the soundtrack; the Seymour Battle included.

Use them as frisbees :)
i need the full version of funiculi funicula of the cymbal toss song
As a drummer, this hurts my soul, as a musician, that China hi-hat actually adds an interesting texture to it that I wasn’t expecting.
It's sometimes worth experimenting with the unconventional.
We are number one always sounds great, but it sounded a lot spicyer this time
I wonder how a china bottom + regular top would sound. This would be more practical
Yeah that hi-hat sounded fun, I liked it a lot haha
sounds like 8 bit era hi-hats that were short bursts of noise

Kinda glad that Dank has reuploaded this stuff cuz now I have an excuse to once again take in the absurdity of a china cymbal stream
Man, I unironically thought the china hi-hats sounded pretty neat. A bit of a nifty funk to 'em.
They are the thing you set up far away from your set and reach over to hit them those 2 times you need this much funk
No, it's a fusion of jazz and funk!
it's called Junk!
As a drummer it hurts me when you throw them, yet I cackle through the pain. And the wild thing is that the China ride actually sounds pretty dope xD
You are living proof that skilled drummers can make almost any setup sound amazing.
This setup would pair nicely with a good old St. Anger snare.
Or some goregrind/slam.
Perfect
The DXP steel cymbal from the egg cymbal video too!
You gave us insight into the alternate universe where Chinese cymbals prevailed over Turkish cymbals.
There should be a single turk cymbal on the China stand, just because I suspect that's how things would be on that alternative reality
