PLease connect hot wire to load terminal and neutral to other. I made a mistake connecting them in diagram.

It is my understanding that if you use the load on the neutral side of the Sonoff like you have shown, the "hot" wire is always energized and leads to a shock hazard. Please hook it up as the indicator on the case shows.

A quick question about Heroku: are you only using it to avoid opening a firewall port? Or does it add some value? If it's just security, it seems like you could achieve a "close enough" protection by simply limiting the port mapping to IFTTT server addresses.

Ran Talbott I am using it to avoid opening a firewall port and also off loading some of the processing from ESP to Heroku. In my case I don't have an option since my router is locked down by my ISP.

Do you have thoughts for using the built-in button for toggling the device on/off? I imagine there would be a need to debounce the switch to avoid chattering the relay.

as 007 mentioned - eWeLink app and account linked to eWelink Alexa skill works great - I have been using it for awhile now with all Sonoff devices - unless flashing gives you more control than on/off and timers?Anyway - just a heads up - love your channel - keep up the great work...

It gives you more flexibility. You can create custom commands instead of using on/off only.

Sonoff native support with google and amazon. No need to flash the firmware anymore. In you google or amazon you can find the skill call "EWeLink" login and enjoy ~

but you say "alexa trigger" so you are using this through IFTTT then right?
      you must be using IFTTT
i don't think there is a way to interface with the sketch on the switch directly there needs to be some other service, so what service in IFTTT do you link it to?
i saw something similar , but the sketch was for a device handler in smart things ,i am not sure if you need the smartthings hub to do it that way or just the app/account because i saw someone else get a boadlink to work with smart things and it said you could do it without a smart things hub
i went and bought a used gen 1 smart things hub to use with the sonoff sketch and another sketch for a lixada H801 ,also esp8266 based ,mainly i got it for the H801 since i will be using 5 of them
so i was wondering if you could do something similar with the H801
make a tutorial and sketch and show how to flash it to an H801
i am not sure if the smartthings sketch actually requires you to use a hub either or if you can just do it with an account
i assume there is a way to do it without a hub since it does not use special protocol like zwave or zigbee ,just wifi
but it requires some fancy setup on your router with ports i do not quite understand
have you seen this project on the smart things community?
flashing H801 and sonoff for smart things control i mean
i ended up forgetting about sonoff though because i bought a broadlink RM pro and i use it to control both 12v and 120/220v
cheap chinese 433mhz relays and i use an always on android android device running a bridge app

Please watch my previous tutorials. I am doing this with Heroku app. App allows you to control your devices without opening a firewall port.

its a skill on amazon must be called sonoff that would make sense :)

I am using Alexa applet with webhook to send the call to Heroku and then the request get forwarded to the Sonoff.
I explain this in my previous tutorials. It is not limited to on/off command you can use other commands.
For step by step details watch following video.

Hi Nassir, thanks for making these videos and I am learning a lot of good stuff because of you. I tried to flash the SONOFF plug and Arduino gives me below error. Can you please help
    Arduino: 1.8.4 (Windows 10), Board: "Generic ESP8266 Module, 80 MHz, 40MHz, DIO, 115200, 512K (64K SPIFFS), ck, Disabled, None"

Your SONOFF switch is not in flash mode. Make sure press down the SONOFF button before you plug your USB to TTL converter to you computer.

Thanks for the quick response. I just switched the USB port and it worked, In the logs I do see the plug was flashed but using the IFTTT command it is not doing anything. I tried to look for the logs on the serial monitor but it does not show me anything. Not even when it is flashing the plug. I will try to hook it up with A/C power to see if that works

You need to deploy the Heroku app. It is very easy. Watch the tutorial # 10 ua-cam.com/video/c4CC1dMFg78/v-deo.html
