- The Porsche Cayman GT4 is optimised for track usage and comes with Michelin Cup 2 tyres. Why would anyone fit anything other than the Cup 2 tyres?!

The PS4S is a perfect tyre for the UK to be honest! It is very wet often and that only can be a good reason to choose this one over the Cup! You did the right thing! You could have however also waited for the PSS5 ;) but probably not out soon with N rating, I guess... So again, you did the right thing! Enjoy!!
You are doing just fine with PS4s. I have a set for the rainy track days. ;)

I just brought a 981 GT4 and the car is equipped with the same tyres as yours
Smart previous owner. Especially given how much rain we have had this summer!
Marketing doesn’t care about your real weather conditions, cup2 are good if you are living in south Spain, Portugal, Greece, Florida and so on.
I've been running PS4Ss on my 981 GT4 for just over two years now. Cup 2's are in the garage if I want them for a track day. Best move I ever made was swapping out to PS4Ss.
That’s why I just got the 4.0 GTS. I thought I wanted the GT4 but in the end I didn’t see myself going to that many track days and my use case was mostly b roads and weekend getaway’s. With narrower tires I can get controllable oversteer pretty easily the GT4 is too planted like Velcro
I did the same switched (after i was done with using the Cup 2’s) went to PS4S and now Advan apex 601 which is even better than them in many ways

I'll do you one better... My friend just put his 718 Spyder on Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4
But he also drives the Spyder with top down when its snowing or right after it was snowing I suppose?? ;)
I have bought a 981 GT4 recently and found the cup2's it had on very hairy in the wet in the corners, also felt braking in the wet would be compromised as well. Looked for info online and came to the same conclusion as u Max. They are quite well worn having them replaced next week. Love the channel Max keep the vids coming.
Out of interest where are you getting the tyres fitted? I used to use Blackboots in Chesham. They had awesome equipment. Boss Touchless machine. Never scratched my wheels. Sadly the fitters I used this time did mark my wheels slightly. Didn’t make a big deal as they are original with the car and need a refurb when the next set of tyres go on.
@@MAXREVS Using Kwik Fit in Cardiff managed to get a good price and when they have done tyres for me b4 had no marks made on the wheels. Drove up to Aberdeen in my 981 GTS and back in the 981 GT4, enjoyable day on the road!
I put Bridgestone Potenza RE980 on my GT4 to drive it during the winter 👌🏾👍🏽
The Potenza is the summer sports version and should not be your first safe choice for wintery conditions. If you have a dry stretch in winter however its a great choice.
I don’t agree that a GT4 was built on a platform of a road car first before it was track enabled with the added components to the engine and suspension. Absolutely nothing wrong using as a road car and the odd track day visit, the GT4RS can be used as a road car as they have all the creature comforts of any Porsche. What matters is that you enjoy your car, as a watch guy I get your analogy 😅
On a few forums it’s surprising how many people just didn’t see my point of view. I guess it also depends where you live and your all year round climate. I’m not living for keyboard warriors on the forums 😁

Hi Max. Hope all is well. I found PS4S’s were transformative. The R is a stiff car, and it took a slight edge that which I preferred. Only slight, but noticeable to how it was beforehand (of which I have completely forgot what boots it was wearing beforehand). Look forward to hearing your thoughts on them.

I changed from Cup 2’s to PS4s on my Cayman R, mainly because of Cup 2’s tendency to aquaplane over standing water and puddles and regretted it straight away, sidewalls felt very soft compared to Cup 2’s, car felt unsettled and squirmed under braking during spirited drives. I will be changing back to Cup 2’s when PS4S’s need replacing, car felt so much more alive and precise on Cup 2’s. I live in Scotland 🏴🌧️ so will just have to learn to live with aqua-planning tendencies by avoiding spirited driving on the wettest of days

Sadly not. Have Porsche warranty so want to keep N rated tyres.
What did you do with the Cup2s?
Tyre fitters sent them off for recycling

They were still road legal for another 1 year, though the rubber was old and hard and I didn’t think they were safe for high speeds. 2017 manufacture date.
Summer tyres should be good up to 10 years - for racing tyres I am unsure of how their compound would behave or if there is any different rule... @@MAXREVS
