Hello! I started making coin rings a long time ago, but lost interest because I didn't have the tools necessary to make them "perfect" and quickly (because it really sucks to spend 3 hours on a ring that ends up not looking super nice). Recently, however, I've decided to get back into it and I found your video! It is very informative and clear and I'm very excited to start making rings again. Thank you so much!
Also, I like how you respond to comments. Many UA-camrs don't bother responding, even if they read them. You've earned a subscriber. :)

The Harbor Freight 6 ton press is being discontinued! You can no longer get them online, and very few stores have any left! They’re $79 if you can find one.

Instead of punching out the center hole you can drill a hole in the coin and correct the centering with a file and a caliper to measure for correct center. That punch set that you show is horrible. The plastic guide breaks when you hammer the punch and the punch doesn't always line up with the hole in the steel plate.

Great video. Will a 1-ton arbor press work well enough for punching the holes, or is the 6-ton A-frame pretty much a must?

    • @CoinRingsfromTheMint

+vsman79 I find the 6 ton much easier. The 1 ton needs to have a cheater bar and the press can be broken by doing it. Thanks!

I started out with no press, ( just an arbor press) punched the hole with the harbor frieght punch, no cards, coin on tape, a counter sunk hole in a piece of rail road tie. Using a leather hammer on the coin on the mandrel , flatten it by hitting it. Then using the piece of rail road tie, to size it the counter sunk hole. Then after a few rings, I fell into the tool hole, lol, 10 years later still making them, as well as the bells, and hearts etc, about 3000 dollars later.

It's a great hobby, but beware can be very addicting, lol btw, I still use the hammer and anvil method, to straighten out Washington quarters that wobble. Wouldnt hurt to learn that method, save some money on tools too

After watching some more of your videos, I have a couple of questions.
*1.* Since we are not using the die plate that came with the ring stretcher and instead using the die from JasonsWorks, is it still the exact same process as you show in your "Step 3 How to make a double sided clad quarter coin ring - sizing" video? In that video, you use the die plate from your American ring stretcher which has 6 different sized holes to keep making the ring smaller, so I just want to make sure I'll be good with just the one die.
*2.* In the same video that I referred to in my first question, you made sure to have the ring a quarter size lower than your target size because you were going to file the inside. Since you don't use a file in this video, I'm assuming the deburring tool does what the file did in the other video. Should I still make sure to make the ring a quarter size below my target size before using the deburring tool at the end?

Killer125922 I haven't watched that video in years. But yes for quarters, you can use just the 1 die from Jason's works. The deburring tool takes the place of the file and I now go 1/2 to 1 full size below my target size to remove more of that lip inside the band. It is really a personal preference though. I like to get as much of that lip removed as I can.

Hi, is a one ton arbor press good enough to punch holes in coins? Thanks

+JW Collect in my opinion not really. I would spend the extra $15-20 and get a 6 ton a frame press

Why would anyone wear a quarter as a ring? I don't get it.
